I'm not buying Mortal Kombat X. Are you guys?

I was pretty stoked for this game. I had the GameStop Exclusive $99 edition preordered. Why have I changed my mind?

1). Pre-order only Goro. It's rediculous that unless you preorder the game, access to this character is blocked. I was willing to accept this, until these other factors came into play.

2). Overpriced DLC Kombat Pack. Thirty bucks for four characters and some skins.

3). Kombat Pack characters are already on the disc and playable in certain challenge towers. Capcom soured me on this unforgivable practice with Street Fighter x Tekken. I barely buy any Capcom games new and can't remember the last one I did buy.

4). Easy mode DLC. The final straw and one of the worst examples of a developer screwing the consumer over. You can now buy easy mode fatalities. A five pack for 99 cents or a 30 pack for five bucks.

What greedy, ignorant, arrogant practices. Taking advantage of less-skilled gamers who want to see the fatalities by charging them extra for it. I guess I'm close to adding WB games to my no-buy list of other greedy developers and I'm seriously considering passing up Arkham Knight. There are plenty of other developers out there trying to make an honest buck without raking their fans over the coals. What a shame that greed wins the day.

That does stink, I hope some issues like this get fixed in the future. Dev's get out of control with the DLC and Pre-Order's these days. I might pick the game up for PS4 in the future if they fix the multiplayer. Nevertheless Mortal Kombat is still a fun party game.

I have more than enough COMPLETE games to keep me busy right now. Bloodborne, FF Type-0, Toukiden, Mario Kart 8, SSB WII U, Witcher III next month and a ton of games in my backlog.

I will pick up Mortal Kombat X in the inevitable "Komplete" edition with all DLC for less than $60 down the road. A little patience will save me a ton of money, get me the most complete edition all on an unlocked disc with whatever update tweaks they make between now and that Komplete release.

Anymore, Sony 1st party seems to be one of the only game producers releasing a finished product that isn't gouging you for DLC. The DLC they release is usually skins and customization packs that don't affect your enjoyment of the core game or make you feel like your missing out on content. And when they make true game content DLC that adds levels, cars or whatever-it's content made after the games retail release and not finished stuff hidden behind a paywall & 168k unlock code already on the disc.

From what I understand, Tanya isn't complete in game.  It's not on disc DLC, that's only Goro.  The Kombat Pack is a season pass for extra characters and skins that'll get released over the rest of the year.  This one doesn't bug me as much.  A tad pricey, but it's not Evolve bad.  The rest are pretty annoying.  Goro is an original character and should be in the game at no cost.  The fatality stuff is harmless, though dumb.  I don't plan to get the game cause I'm not into Mortal Kombat's gameplay, more into Street Fighter style action, but I'm enjoying watching others play.  Definitely one of the best looking fighting games out right now.  Should've been more consumer friendly with the DLC though.  Even offering easy fatalities just looks like you are scrounging for targets.  These things aren't that hard to do lol

I greatly disliked how Injustice played so will definitely be skipping on MK X.  That and I'm terrible at fighting games.

Not sure about Tanya, but it's been confirmed that other characters like Jason Vorhees is playable in certain Challenge Tower modes.  This means that the character is already on the disc.

The pricing for what amounts to a character 4-pack and some new duds is ridiculous.  Goro being blocked unless you got a pre-order code is ridiculous.  Selling easy-mode 2-button kills for cash is ridiculous.  I'll pass.

That is a tactic I have used before when I really wanted to play a game but not support the company that made it because of what I perceive to be shady practices.  Pretty much anything by Capcom I have bought used since they pulled their little stunt with Street Fighter x Tekken. 

With the inevitable "Komplete Edition" of MKX, even if I only wait a week or so after it is released, I can pick up a used copy from Gamestop for about $50 with my Powerup Rewards card and all the stuff is on the disc.  I give it six months tops before the game is re-released like this.  Hell, I think it only took about 3 months for Injustice to get the Ultimate Edition.

Well, update here!  Kinda feel like a hypocrite, but my wife decided to surprise me by picking up my preorder for the GameStop edition. I was planning to just forget it and move the deposit over to the Witcher III.

I also recouped $44.99 of the cost by selling the Kold War Scorpion skin on eBay. Yes, you read that right. $44.99. Nuts.  For a skin.

Sorry I haven't posted in awhile.  The big storms & tornadoes that ripped through Missouri and Illinois caused thousands of dollars in damage to my home that *SURPRISE!* aren't covered by my home owners insurance.  So I have been busy working on all of that.  Hail the size of softballs do a significant amount of damage to gutters, windows and vinyl siding.   

As for our hobby, unfortunately to me it has become pretty dreary.  Any excitement I have for games is bittersweet because I know that the game they release will be a half-complete game with planned DLC that is in many cases already complete and on the disc.  Everyone has their own views and feelings on the subject and technically if they don't advertise the locked content as being there in the first place, they don't owe it to you.  I get that.  But in many instances, games are becoming shorter and contain less content because it's planned to charge you the extra for DLC.

So you have one side of the argument that says games have stayed at $60 since 2005.  On the other side, these games are becoming shorter & shorter, having less unlockable items, etc. They have less content than a retail game released in 2005.  Of course, every game doesn't fall into this, but many games today do.  I've practically swore off Ubisoft, EA, Activision, Capcom and now WB Games because of these shady practices.  For me, this sucks the fun right out of gaming. 

I used to be a pretty big Call of Duty fan.  But now, Activision has turned it into an annual money-printing machine.  Guaranteed, it's going to cost you $100 a year minimum to continue playing as they churn out sequels and season passes left & right.
