I mentioned this in the 2017 thread, but I will be adding a score to my reviews out of 50-points. I will be rating every game based on Presentation (graphics, art style, visual quality), Sound (fx, soundtrack, voice acting), Gameplay (controls, in-game mechanics, scoring), and Fun (how much I enjoyed playing it). Presentation, Sound, and Gameplay will be mostly objective markers, while fun will be entirely subjective. Likewise, these first three categories will be rated out of 10-points each, while Fun will be rated out of 20, since I believe my personal enjoyment of the game should carry the most weight, but not so much that I can just say a game sucks when it might not.
Here is what each of the scores for Presentation, Sound, and Gameplay mean:
0: Abysmal
1: Terrible with barely any redeemable qualities
2: Very bad, but with some decent qualities
3: Not that great, but decent in some ways
4: Below Average
5: Average
6: Above Average
7: Mostly good, with a few minor, but noticeable flaws
8: Very Good with only a few small flaws
9: Outstanding, with barely any flaws
10: Perfect
For Fun it is a bit harder to say, but essentially anything below a 10 means I didn't like or enjoy playing the game, with 1 being I really hated the game. Likewise anything above 10 would mean that I liked it to some degree with a 20 meaning the game is almost certainly a top 10 game for me.
I thought about including some sort of color coded status on what I was playing, but I've decided to leave this out. Essentially my reviews will be in this format:
#. GAME TITLE (console): Review........... (date beat)[X/50]
Even though it is only slight change over what I did in 2017, I'm really excited to implement this new system as it will better help me decide which games I enjoy the most from each genre and also help me home in on what games are truly the best, most fun I've ever played.
