The arcade game Chiller was horribly gory for the time.  I believe it was released in 1986.


A really sick game, for the fact that the player was the one torturing these people.  It was a light gun game, so you would shoot these victims or activate the torture devices like releasing the guillotine by shooting it.

Diablo 1 was pretty graphic, I remember N.A.R.C. for NES being surprisingly bloody too.

I remember some controversy over it & it even being banned in certain places...

I have a copy or 2 of it...but it's not very high on my "to play soon" list

We must not forget the 2 Atari 2600 games that where Branded as "too violent" and where put behind store counters and where only available to buy if someone asked for them. Halloween & Texas Chainsaw Massacre.

And of course we must not forget the games that started games being rated.
Night Trap (which really isn't gory)
and Mortal Kombat. (remember how Genesis you had to use a code to see blood while SNES edited all the gore out and made it fail.)

And we must not forget Doom and Splatterhouse.

Chiller and Death Race where released (poorly i might add) to the NES.

Weren't there a few "Adult/Mature" games for the 2600, too?

For showing breast-shaped pixels not covered by clothing-shaped pixels; or something?

Splatterhouse 3 and Doom were my favorite gory oldschool games. And the first Nightmare Creatures was pretty brutal. #2 was kind of weak though
