I just recently picked up season 1 and season 2 of Superboy (1988) on dvd. I'm mid-season one. It's cheap, it's hokey, it's cheesy, but it somehow is still charming and I keep watching it. Not sure what it is exactly but I'm entertained. I hear it actually gets better in season 2 (and they replace the actor that plays Superboy), but I haven't made it that far.

Lex Luthor is just...wow. Have you seen South Park? Do you remember the disabled bully? I swear the creator's of South Park based that character on this specific version of Lex luthor, sidekick and all. No exaggeration, he acts just like him, minus the disability.

Have you seen this? What are your thoughts on it?

Crushed out season 3 of Silo over the weekend, and I think having a 4th and final season renewal really did wonders for the focus and pacing of the show.  It has a little bit of a shakey start with an old worn out trope, but it uses it well, and doesnt dwell on it too long.  Best season of the show so far, and I'm amped for the final season next year.

The new season of the King of the Hill reboot is great.  Stands up with the best of the original run.

As some of you may know. I grew up and am from Fall River. The city in which the Lizzie Borden Axe murders took place. The lore and story of the murders is essentially pre school education in my birth city. I sang the nursery rhyme skipping rope at age 6. It's very ingrained in my family on a deeper level that I wont personally share. But to put it simply. We have direct connections to Lizzie and the trial.  So while I never expect liberties to not be taken at all. This is Hollywood im aware.  I also expect some simple semblance to accuracy of any accord.

The Monster: Lizzie Borden "story" is just a hot dumpster fire. It really is.  It's so disgusting.  At some point I may start to agree with the do gooders who have been shunning Ryan Murphy and his portrayals.  He started off mostly holding a mirror to the evils of killers of the past.  The dahmer one was so good because he pretty much nailed the pirtraysl and didnt deviate from reality. Now it seems he is trying to rewrite the world.  And sad part is.  Gen Z will believe this nonsense.  That's why a title like "the Lizzie Borden story" is especially problematic when it doesnt follow the story at all.  I'd say it's so transformative that it skews and Alters the consumption of proper story telling and historically significant information.

We can make a film where Hitler is gay and falls In love with a black man from Sweden and they tap dance to Eminem Diss tracks using a time warp portal. And his motives for the holocaust were a quest for lovers equalit.
Do as you must with fiction. But certainly dont call it "the Adolf Hitler story"   and market it in this way.  It blurs the line between satire south park parody and "this is really what happened" to an offensive point quite frankly.   I dont like real people, and real trauma being made a goof of for the sake of pretentious art.

This thing is a fairytale written by someone who just doesnt care about respecting victims and their families anymore.   With Dahmer. He didnt disgrace the victims. He more so shined a light on the horrors they faced.  Now?  Yeah. Its all out the window.  I personally think going to Oak Grove Cemetary and spitting on the Borden family plot would have been less disrespectful than this cheap, budget, Jax from sons of anarchy joke of a series.

Watched the first season of Hacks.  Very good, very funny, but a more serious and realistic tone than I was expecting. That's not a bad thing. Just makes it a little tougher to binge than I had initially expected.

Second season of Hacks is a tiny bit more cohesive than the first, with a more prominent through line, but it doesn't feel as robust, probably because it is two episodes shorter.

Binged most of Stuart Fails to Save the Universe this week. It's silly, but it silly nerdy fun; and in a different way than Big Bang Theory. BBT was just a straight sitcom. This is a sci-fi adventure with comedy, that has all kinds of sci-fi/comic tropes as he goes from parallel universe to parallel universe.

At work for a couple days, will watch the season finale Sunday, probably.

Also finished the latest season of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds. Dang this season was disappointing.
Too many gimmick episodes in an already too short season. This show started off so strong, too.

Monsters of God is the new doc series from the guy who did Tiger King and Chimp Crazy.  Splits its time between a character study of lizard folks and smuggling syndicates. Ultimately the smuggling side comes up short as it falls into a repeating pattern of "Person A smuggled lizards into the US. Person B sold them and got arrested," so it struggles to fill 5 hours of airtime.

Knocked out Comanche Moon, which is the second prequel to Lonesome Dove, but also the last mini-series they made.  Better across the board than Dead Man's Walk. Just an absolutely killer cast. Steven Zahn really surprised me here and is an absolutely killer Gus. Urban is a much better call than Johnny Lee Miller was in DLM but still doesn't hold a candle to Tommy Lee Jones' performance in the original mini. I'm starting to doubt if anyone will ever live up to it.

Missing like 90% of the characterization and depth of the indigenous characters from the book, which is a crime.

Finished Monster: The Lizzie Borden Story

It ends worse than it starts with not much room for legitimacy.  It is soft core pornography meeting a budget low rent slasher rom com from the depths of a pretentious snobs ass.  It's the effect of giving one man too much too soon.  Dahmer was gritty and historical. It had people stunned. But not by just its nastiness but by its accuracy and sickeningly great acting cast.  With each entry this fame has gone to the directors head and hes played with the formula more and more.

Now we are left with "here sir. Here is the story of Lizzie Borden for reference"

SLIGHT SPOILER START

Ryan Murphy - "Nope.  Shes gay.  Her sister was a more favored prettier seamstress and the father was a midevil axe collector who used blackmail to sleep with all his maids, he wasn't a highly religious puritan who didn't even want swearing in his household.  He was a wild sexual deviant who had sex with everything that moved. And lastly.  Lizzie and the maid orchestrated multiple homicides, spoke to Aileen Wournos in spirit form and also idolized a Victorian blood witch from Europe.  Like really?   Thats not even the worse of it.  I cant share the worse of it because it's too sexual.  These were real people you're degrading.   Why not make MLK gay?

 Slight spoiler end

This director has prided himself on deep cut non fiction.  To do this to the legacy of real people gives my city a bad spotlight.  What a joke.

Third season of Hacks was maybe the best one yet.  Loved the plot of trying to get Deborah her own talk show and Hannah Einbinder is becoming a better actress with each passing season.

Finished up Season 4 of the 2012 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles cartoon.  Thiught the first half of the season was a nice change of pace with all the space stuff, and the back half was really strong, potentially wrapping up the Shredder / Splinter storyline for good.

Caught up with the last few episodes of Lanterns and I liked it.  I'm not coming at this as someone who has a deep knowing of Green Lantern lore, I only know bits and pieces, so that puts me in a separate category compared to what fans might have wanted from the show.  It definitely is lacking in "Lantern" elements, they barely use the ring most of the time and they only use the ring in a very big, creative, way with John once with the drill.  Otherwise it's just a fairly grounded drama set in a small town mostly with some mysteries going on.  I think what sells it is the antagonistic partnership between John and Hal.  They are so good in this, I like Kyle Chandler is this older asshole Hal being forced to work with his replacement, it's a great dynamic.

I can see why there are people that didn't like the ending, what it ends with, but with a Season 2 confirmed, I think future story stuff could be very interesting as there's multiple things left up in the air and hopefully they get more budget to have more Green Lantern stuff to happen and I hope John plays a part in future stuff since we have two Green Lantern's now, maybe have him show up in Man of Tomorrow.

Lanterns has not been renewed season 2.

Ah, post I saw made me think it was confirmed, but it's just being looked at as a possibility right now.  I hope it does, there's cool story stuff that could be done, especially if it's not just gonna be like a thriller mystery set in a small Nebraska town any longer lol

Is anyone excited for Dragon Ball Super: Beerus?

On one hand I'm happy Dragon Ball didn't end after Toriyama passed away. On the other hand... this is the third time they've told this story. They already did it in episode form then they did it in animated movie form. Do we really need it a third time?

I don't get the point of this, just like I didn't get the point of turning the movies into the tv show, but all they did was extend them with less interesting addition, kinda worse changes, and then made it way more poorly animated.  This will I guess make it so the Super series will be better, it's broadly kinda awful I think out of some stuff mostly in the final tournament, but I have little reason to watch it till they get to the post-Tournament arc story, which will be...a year away? Maybe longer? It's baffling how badly they've handled things.  I might watch Episode 1 since it'll apparently be on Hulu, but I likely won't keep up with it, because I prefer the English dub.
