I'd say not.  That was technically an interest check and not a sign-up (plus I think most of us have?)

After giving this some more thought, and after having some of you reach out outside the forums (I appreciate the kindness) I am going to participate. I'll be in categories 1 & 2.

Now I need to start doctoring up a wish list. Good times.

I was going to say. I was starting to think my gift was not up to par last year!  ;)

Glad you decided to participate.  ;D

The rules got "tightened up" in regards to late lists and what not but no mention about the condition of gifts. I mean, it SHOULD go without saying that anything purchased ought to be in the best shape possible.

As far as categories go, I think that's more complex than it needs to be. For this event, you make a list and that's that. If you want it (and it meets the criteria of availability/affordability/etc) then add it to your damn list. IMO it's outright laziness on any participant's part to go "Just look at my wish list and surprise me". NO. Hell my wish list on here is like 1200+ items deep and I wouldn't dare subject anyone to perusing through it to figure out what to get me. I took the time to narrow it down to about 20 or so items I would absolutely want to get gifted and unlike last year it would be nice to get at least one thing from it instead of dupes of games I already had and things that weren't on my radar at all. I still have no idea which version of Rodea I was sent.  :P

I can share in that sentiment but I'm not opposed to either method. The hardest year for me was when I was just given a site wishlist to sift through. And it was for systems I knew nothing about and half of the items were well over budget. It just took more time on my end to sift through stuff.

I would have thought having a bigger wishlist made it a little easier on the gifter because there would be more flexibility in what to choose.

To me, part of the fun is looking through someone's wishlist, researching items on that wishlist, and making decisions based on the research and hunting for items.

But I guess everyone has a different philosophy.

If someone’s wishlist is a couple of pages of items all within budget I would agree.

But some wishlists are 50+ pages with items all over in price range.

Or in some cases the wish list isn’t really a wishlist but a bucket list for some other purpose entirely.

Tell me what you want. Tell me if you’re okay being surprised. Respect the budget. Don’t expect either party to be a mind reader.
