I mostly go to metacritic to et a general idea of how good a game is. As long as there is no internet campaign to destroy or promote a game, I typically put more stock in the user aggregate score. The obvious reason for this is the aggregate score is obviously inaccurate as to the game's real quality when hundreds, if not thousands of people are intentionally review bombing a game. I also tend to ignore these user review scores for the first few weeks since it's a bit hard to review a game that's literally been out for a day, much less a few hours.
