Playstation 5 Rumored to be Shown Tonight at CES.
« on: January 06, 2020, 09:51:18 am »
"The Future is Coming"

Looks like Sony is rumored to be showing off the PS5 tonight (Monday, 1/6) at CES. Their press conference starts at 5PM PT / 8PM ET, 1AM in London, 12PM on Tues, Jan 7th in Sydney.

Every generation has me a little less hyped, but at the potential full reveal of a new system, I always tend to get a bit excited. Here's hoping we at least get to see the system and/or controller. Announcement of what innovations there are. Maybe a couple of the games coming too it.

I don't expect the exact release date, pricing or full launch lineup.

What are your hopes to see if the PS5 is actually revealed tonight?

If the rumored backwards compatibility is true, this will be a day one purchase for me; I won't even hesitate.

I fully believe that there will be backwards compatibility. The question is how far will the compatibility go? Will it be simply for PS4 and PSVR or will it include PS1, PS2 and PS3? If it includes PS1 and PS2, then my PS2 slim is basically useless. I still have 50 PS1 games and about 35 PS2 games. If it includes PS3, I'll rebuy the Mass Effect trilogy.  :D

Definitely day 1 buy if it has full backwards compatibility. If not, then there will have to be a few PS5 games in the works that I'm wanting for me to jump in day 1.

Pretty sure it won't be tonight. It should be it's own event.

Yeah, complete full BC would be an insane coup.  Not sure if it would be a Day One buy, but whoa momma would I be tempted.

Yes I guess I didn't really specify, but if this is FULLY backwards compatible its a no-brainer for me. If you add all my playstation games (1-4) its slightly over a third of my collection. Being able to play that large of a chunk of my collection on one console would have me sold alone, not to mention any PS5 games I picked up.

PS1-4 is exactly 25% of my collection according to the stats page... that would be a no brainer.  Slightly more if you add in PSN games.

Now if they did full PS1-4 plus all of the PSN games (digital PSP/Vita/PS1 + PS2 Classics/PS3 PSN games) that would blow my mind.

when did they say it would play all 5 generations? As far as I was told it will only be backwards compatable with PlayStation 4 games only. SONY tried 3 generations of Backward Compatibility back in the day and it failed on the original PlayStation 3 consoles,

It would be nice to have a 5 for all, but I don't think it's gonna happen, but you'll probably know in a couple of hours anyway

But I will admit I have heard of M drives on PC's that can do CD/DVD/and Blu-ray, so lets keep our hopes up. My little sister is studying to be a tech and she mentioned M drive, and there suppose to be an all around disc player on the PC

Couldn't agree more, but it would have to be more than just PS4. If it plays PS1 and PS2 games I'm buying it just on that alone. I have serious doubts about this, but we'll see.

Yeah if it's full backwards compatible, legit can just put in any PS4 game in and even better if they can keep the saves through cloud save support(I don't want to lose all my Monster Hunter World work), it's likely a Day 1 buy too, even better if it goes older systems too.  I'm watching the show if they tease anything. I don't think it'll be a full reveal, like Xbox was, but we'll see.

Jesus, they only teased the logo, which is exactly the same as the PS4 and PS3 lol I'm curious if they'll wait till E3 to show it off. The least they could've done was show the system design lol

I was hoping they would go back to the PS2 style for the logo. PS5 logo looks too much like the PS3 logo.

Well if it's backwards compatible with every PlayStation console game that would be a win win. But SONY has been known to cut corners, I hope they take their time in creating this correctly, would not want to spend $400-$500 on a machine that is not well built. besides if  this thing is real would probably be too much for my budget,

Question 1 is, is thing going to be backwards compatible Question 2 is will this thing be a have reliable hardware on it's insides? or will it be like some of the flopped early PS3 and Xbox360 consoles did?

The Launch PS3's were fantastic with playing both PS1 and PS2 and PS3 games but I heard they would overheat and sometimes I heard the insides melted

I think It will be with PS4, I can almost assure that. Makes sense with the tech.  PS3?  Maybe.  Just maybe though. That'd be neat.    PS2 and PS1?  No way imo.   I don't see it being full backwards with all their prior systems.  It would be a neat idea.  But I think it'd put them way over budget.  they'd have to sell over 600.  and I don't think they want to be the pricier console.
