Zelda/Nintendo Directs September 8th/9th

While the Sony showing was mostly a bust, Nintendo has some cool stuff coming that I can actually be excited for now that I own a Switch 2.

They are doing a 40th anniversary Zelda event which will most likely reveal Ocarina of Time, I can see the Zelda movie trailer here, and probably will announce the leaked Zelda Switch 2.  I'm hopeful that we get a Twilight Princess/Wind Waker HD release, like put that out this or next month, and then put out Ocarina of Time for like November or December, this would be the greatest possible thing...My expectation is that they are just gonna put Twilight Princess and Wind Waker on NSO and make me very sad lol

The Nintendo Direct is then apparently all about winter Switch 2 only stuff, so probably not huge reveals for 2027 stuff, but I'm sure we'll get something generally good here.

Ok, so aside from the Zelda themed Switch 2 system that's rumored, the ONE thing I've wanted Nintendo to announce is a port of Twilight Princess HD. I'd enjoy Wind Waker and the older Zelda games as well, but Twilight Princess is top tier for me and it's really head scratching as to why Nintendo hasn't ported it to the first Switch yet/if ever.

This Zelda Direct marks not just the 40th anniversary for the series, but the 20th anniversary for Twilight Princess. If it's ever going to happen, a port or remaster announcement would most logically occur at this event.

I won't hold my breath, but I'll hope.

It's baffling they never did on Switch 1, they are some of the I think absolute last games that are trapped on Wii U.  I didn't know it was the 20th anniversary for Twilight Princess, which gives me a little more hope we could see it.  I've been dying to replay Twilight Princess for a long time and it's been annoying that I can't easily do so.  Just give them to me both in the Wind Waker/Twilight Princess HD bundle and I'll be as happy as can be.

I'm guessing this is 90% going to be about OoT Remake, but I'd love to see them port the 3DS remakes at some point. Obviously they won't do that, especially now since it would likely undermine the new remake's sales, but it's always been sad those have been locked on the 3DS all these years. I'd be happy for a port of TP and WW though as you guys pointed out. Also a teaser or a glimpse of the next, new mainline Zelda game would be fun.

Another big expectation is the first trailer for the upcoming Zelda movie. Seriously hoping they don't f it up.

I know what p WON'T be there, but I would be happy if it did show up. A New Wario Land or a port of Shake It!

Somehow.... amazingly.... they didn't announce Twilight Princess for Switch or Switch 2. They continue to ignore it, which completely baffles me. I guess 20th anniversary for a beloved entry means nothing to them.

That said, the Zelda themed Switch 2 system looks good and Ocarina of Time remake looks impressive. I'll see about preordering those for the family Christmas gift this year.

The Ocarina remake justified itself to me far more with that showcase than the Star Fox one ever did.  I wasn't pretty disinterested before, but now I'm totally in.

That was a much lesser showing than I expected.  No movie trailer, and the only game being Ocarina of Time kinda sucks.  Really half-assing the 40th anniversary here.

Ocarina looks really cool, and it'll be a great game to replay, but it sounds like it borders almost more on a higher end remaster than a remake to me.  I was hoping for a bigger remake that might do more with the game, adding more, the world being fully open with no noticeable loading zones.  I'm still day one getting this and I'll have a real wonderful time with it as Ocarina of Time is an all time favorite that was only really knocked down my favorite list by Twilight Princess being a more enjoyable game to play and has some elements that made it feel like a modern take on Ocarina at the time, I was just sorta expecting more. We'll see, maybe they didn't reveal a few newer things that could be in the game as a surprise, it just feels with how they talked about it, it comes across as a pretty straightforward experience.

That feels weird to do so quickly after they just had the Star Fox 64 remake, but that same list I think I saw other rumored games also included like a new Smash and other stuff that felt like a lot, especially since this direct I believe is supposed to be about stuff coming up over the winter, which goes into early next year and I can't see either coming out that soon, though doesn't mean they can't tease future stuff.  We'll see.  After the Zelda direct was abit underwhelming, I'm keeping myself a lot more reserved for tomorrow lol

That OOT remake looks great. I love the art style they went with instead of making it look like BOTW or straight-up realism. I'm also happy that they fixed Ganondorf's skull geometry so that his head is no longer compressed sideways, and that Ganondorf Tennis is still a thing.

I'm not buying a Switch 2 just to play it, but I look forward to playing it via emulation in 10 years.

Yeah I saw a number of people who just wanted to see the BOTW art style and I feel like those are people who've only ever played Breath of the Wild/Tears of the Kingdom and don't know that Zelda has never been just one art style and they always do something new unless it's a sequel.  I'm hoping they plan to just go right into a Majora's Mask remake, because it would make sense and this art style would look so good with that games darker tone.
