Yall aren’t going to believe this, I bought some new stuff.
I went to Retrofest 3 in Conway, AR.

I grabbed a few unexpected things that I had no idea I wanted.
I left the house with a hit list. I was getting Simpsons Hit and Run for GameCube, Spider-Man for Dreamcast, and Contra 4 for DS.

If any of y’all want to see an amazing amount of games, Retrofest is the place. I’ve been to several gaming conventions, but I think this one is the biggest in terms of attendees and games. It’s baffling.

Anyway, I picked up some sweet stuff.

Simpsons: Hit and Run GC
Contra 4 DS
Spider-Man Dreamcast

Then I found
what is called the “Candy Cane” variant of Contra III for SNES
Contra III Not for Resale Demo
and something I’ve wanted for a long dang time. It’s notorious for being one of the biggest piles of shit of all time.

Some more to add to the comic book/superhero collection:

-Thor: God of Thunder (Xbox 360)
-Wolverine (NES)
-Green Lantern: Rise of the Manhunters (DS) - I just recently learned that this version of the game is completely different than the 3DS version, which is completely different than the Xbox 360 version.

Nintendo has officially shipped the Zelda 40th Anniversary Edition of the Switch 2 system to me. Still working on getting a matching controller... but I'm honestly not confident I'll succeed on that. The system was the more important part as it'll be my kiddo's big Christmas surprise. It should arrive before the end of the month.

"Happy game hunting!!!"

I got tired of hunting down a copy of Belmont's Curse. Three Gamestop's I went to didn't have it, Best Buy didn't, Walmart and Targets, nope. I ended up ordering it on Amazon for PS5. The landscape of buying new, physical copies of games is absolutely dire right now.

This kind of thing is why Amazon gradually became my primary source of new games, especially after 2020. I've seen people blame Amazon for dwindling selections at physical stores, but they've got it backwards. People buy their physical games from Amazon because brick and mortar stores stopped carrying them. I can't buy from Wal-Mart when they refuse to carry what I'm looking for. Earlier this year, my local Wal-Mart remodeled and reduced its game cabinet sizes to a single 3'x5' case each for PS5 and XBOX. When I tried to buy Monster Hunter Stories 3 there on release day, they weren't even stocking it. I had to order a copy through Amazon and wait a week for it because they'd sold out of their initial stock. Wal-Mart didn't even bother to stock the game until 3 months later. They also seem to be price-matching the digital storefronts now instead of Gamestop or other physical stores. Last summer when I bought Dragon Ball Sparking Zero, I bought it from Amazon for $35 because Wal-Mart was still charging $70 for it 8 months after release. I love brick and mortar stores, but I'm not paying double price for the privilege of shopping at one.
Games Needed to Complete Collection:
PS5: 24 | PS4: 19 | XBOX One: 11 | Switch: 4

pre ordering isn't as much fun as walking into a store and buying it physically in person.

Nor is it a viable alternative. Plenty of consumers prefer to buy items only after they're able to assess its quality, which is something that's not exclusive to purchasing video games.

true but bikinhatuty's problem is mostly caused by online retailers being able to have lower prices thanks to lower rent and less employees on top of convenience, no physical store is gonna compete with that nor is it wise for them to stock up on too many niche games compared to online. it is what it is.
