Best co-op SNES games
« on: August 28, 2012, 09:07:47 pm »
My son has started to be interested in the SNES and I have discovered that I am severely lacking in any kind of co-op game for the SNES.

So what are the best ones for me to pick up?
Also what are some cheap ones to pick up too? :D

Goof Troop!
Yeah, that might be one of the more interesting ones. fun to play and you can cooperate to solve puzzles and such. IIRC it's not too expensive either.

Also:
TMNT: Turtles in Time
Kirby Super Star
Sunset Riders
Legend of the Mystical Ninja
Pocky & Rocky
Other beat 'em ups like Final Fight 2, Super Double Dragon and the Battletoads games (though, be warned, those are stupidly hard)

I don't frequently play co-op, but those are some interesting ones :P

I second Kirby Super Star. That's probably the best one.

Contra III and Super Buster Bros. are good co-op games as well. I remember that in Yoshi's Safari, player 2 can control Yoshi. What I don't remember is if it's fun to do so...

Well I think any of the Donkey Kong Country games would qualify, although you're not playing at the same time, they're still co-op and of course Contra 3. It might be cool to also pick up Super Mario Kart, I know it's not co-op but it is a great multi-player game. Oh! and also Super Bomberman I believe you can set up teams and also play through the story as a team

I second Goof Troop. I played the hell out of that game as a kid.
If he can play menu based games, you can play Secret of Mana coop, though you need to progress a bit before you get the girl as a playable character.
The Donkey Kong Country games are pretty good for coop and you can hot swap between players, the GF and I we playing DKC the other day. She'd never played it before and was having a blast even when she wasn't up.

I also lack a lot of 2 player games tho, the snes era was when I became the only gamer in the house and started leaning toward rpgs and single player games more.

EDIT: Secret of Mana isn't really menu based combat, it's more action RPG. But there is the menu system for getting items, and such.

Secret of Mana. Nothing else is required.

TMNT: Turtles in Time

One of my favorite Turtles games!:D

Zombies Ate My Neighbours is a really awesome co-op game too! One of my favorite games for the SNES that isn't an RPG haha.

In your options during gameplay you can set up characters to be controlled by Controller 2 during battle!
Controller 1 still controls World Map view and the menus.

Is it only like this on the SNES ? I have the game on PS1 and really dont want to drop the money it costs for the SNES version but my wife always asks me to let her play some RPGs with me.
