Do you use a protective case? I've had a cheap plastic case and I've dropped mine many times and it has done well. The case usually pops off, but the phone is always fine. I've had the same one for nearly 5 years. I've noticed that most people with iPhones have a cracked screen from dropping it. I have a Motorola.

First thing I do with my smartphones is get an Otterbox. I'm stunned with the amount of abuse those things will take.

Nah never had a case, this thing has taken a beating. HTC One M8 that I've dropped multiple times and its survived them all, if I had an iPhone I would surely have a case for it. For me the form factor/style is more important than the case, I usually dont break phones, this is actually the first one I've ever had issues with like this, I was really close to getting a new one anyways so its okay.

Always, always, always keep my phones in a case.  My Galaxy S6 (current phone) is snug in an Otterbox with a glass screen protector to boot.

Yeah my phone didnt break, still looks amazing with little to no scratches, think something just came loose inside because it just wont turn on. Its like with antivirus, the best protector your phone can have is common sense and not needing to look at it all the time.

Mini-rant of the day - eBay sellers case 290482354. I wish I could make a site wide announcement to everyone who uses eBay for selling - the point of taking multiple pictures of an item is to take them at different angles. Please don't take 4 pictures if it's all from the same exact angle. It makes it seem like you are intentionally hiding something.
