SHUMP Recommendation Thread
« on: February 12, 2013, 11:15:15 pm »
I though this might be a fun idea. We could even make more threads like it in the future.

When you make a suggestion I'll add it to the list so we don't have a ton of random posts to search through to see what the recs. This list is just for people to look at so they know what's out there so if you have 50 suggestions feel free to throw them all in at once.

Please include the region if the games are exclusive to regions outside of the US. JP, EU, etc.

I'll start it off.

Iridion II (GBA) - I picked it up tonight and played through a massive chunk of the game in one sitting. You can change weapons on the fly which is a nice feature and it looks great on the GBA.

I'll also put up Biometal and UN Squadron (two of my favorites on the SNES).

Deathsmiles is an excellent Horizontal SHMUP for the 360. Same w/ the Vertical DoDonPachi Resurrection.

Gradius Collection for PSP is also really good and has a couple never before released in the US Gradius games on it.

Now Playing: Persona 5 Scramble, Animal Crossing: New Horizons, Mario Kart 8

XBOX 360
Deathsmiles
DoDonPachi Resurrection

;)

Are we limiting this to physical, or are XBLA/PSN/Nintendo eShop up for the running as well?

Lords of Thunder for Sega CD or Turbo Grafx is my favorite. I would recommend it to anyone.

In that case.

XBLA
1942: Joint Strike - Great updated version of the 194x series. Offers a pretty good challenge.
Guwange - Bullet Hell shooter where you play as Ronin or Samurai facing off against a demonic army.
Triggerheart Exelica - Futuristic shooter, Bullet Hell.
Trouble Witches Neo! - Horizontial cute 'em up.

Also, Raiden IV for 360 is prolly my favorite console version of Raiden. Offers the ability to play w/ the screen in tate too.
Now Playing: Persona 5 Scramble, Animal Crossing: New Horizons, Mario Kart 8

Akai Katana and Otomdius Excellent for 360 are both good

I'm strictly limiting my choices to games I personally love and recommend, and ideally, which version is the best available:

Arcade (MAME-playable)
- Armed Police Batrider
- Cyvern: The Dragon Wings
- Dangun Feveron
- Dragon Blaze
- ESP Ra.De
- Gekirindan
- Progear no Arashi
- Samurai Aces

Dreamcast
- Border Down
- Giga Wing
- Mars Matrix
- Under Defeat
- Zero Gunner 2

Neo-Geo
- Blazing Star
- Strikers 1945 Plus

PC
- Imperishable Night
- Perfect Cherry Blossom (really any Touhou shooters are great, though)
- Shikigami no Shiro III

PC Engine
- Ginga Fukei Densetsu: Sapphire
- Gradius II: Gofer no Yabou
- R-Type Complete CD

PlayStation
- DoDonPachi
- Gradius Gaiden
- Image Fight & X-Multiply
- R-Type Delta
- Raiden DX
- Sonic Wings Special
- Toaplan Shooting Battle
- Zanac x Zanac

PlayStation 2
- DoDonPachi Dai-Ou-Jou
- Espgaluda

Playstation 3
- Under Defeat HD

Saturn
- Batsugun
- Battle Garegga
- Cotton 2: Magical Night Dreams
- Gunbird
- Sengoku Blade
- Sexy Parodius
- Sol Divide
- Soukyugurentai
- Twinkle Star Sprites

Xbox 360
- Guwange
- Ketsui: Kizuna Jigokutachi Extra
- Mushihimesama
- Raiden Fighters Aces

plus a fair number that have been named already like Akai Katana and DeathSmiles :)

Sonic Wings/ Aero Fighters 2 and 3 for the neo geo are pretty awesome.
Parodius-Saturn
Musha-Genesis
Does the Metal Slug series count as well? I mean technically they are shoot em ups, but if you include those you also need to include the Contra series

I always considered those action games, but IDK, what does everyone else think?

I mean, they are SHUMPS technically I suppose...
