Just had the mailman at my door and that are game console I mentioned came today.  ;D

When people talk 3DO most people think the Goldstar version is the rarest console, but there is another that's even more harder to come by. In Japan there's the Sonyo 3DO TRY and finally found one that wasn't outrageously priced.
I wasn't sure if all 3DO's played Japanese games and I tested the 2 games I got on my US models FZ-1 and the FZ-10 and they do play. Good to know if you wanna import 3DO games.

It came with 8 games, 2 Japan 3DO games CIB and 6 US games all disc only.
- Road & Track Overdriven' (need for speed) (JP)
- Emit (JP)
- Gex
- Escape from Monster Manor
- Out of this Wolrd
- Syndicate
- Alone in the Dark
- Demolition Man

Tomorrow hitting the sales.  ;)

Found a few things today for a nice price.  Nothing great for PS2, but they were all for just a buck together, so couldn't pass that up.  Was surprised to find the Rambo 3 for SMS though, just because they have a complete SMS on the thrift shop shelf with like a dozen games for a 115 bucks in a bagged bundle, so finding a loose one was cool. Never found a SMS game in my hunts lol And then grabbed Splinter Cell 3D for the heck of it because it was on sale for 8 bucks at BJ's Wholesale.  They have a few other DS and 3DS titles for 8 bucks, mostly Lego related, but didn't feel like grabbing them.

I never thought of Harvest Moon as a "budget title". It's a major series of games.
It's pretty much the leader of Farming RPG's.

I meant more like I've just never thought of the series as a "high" budget game...

I would have to agree with flea. I could see if it was a one-off but they've been going strong since the SNES days. It's gotten big enough to inspire a whole industry of social games like Happy Farm, FarmVille and Farm Town.

AND...

...(relative to other flagship titles in other popular genres); comparatively speaking - I'd bet that they're still on the very low-end of what current video game making budgets are.

I agree with Kenny here - I know the series has been around forever but it's never been very high-profile even amongst other JRPG enthusiasts.  Not knocking the series, I honestly haven't really played any of them long enough to form an opinion, so they may be great games - but there are many great games that I'd consider "B" tier.

Exactly  :D

Most of the games that I like the most are NOT the bigger-budget games.

So, saying that a game/series is, by default, a "budget" one (Harvest Moon, Atelier games, Neptunia games, Hell...to a little more of an extent - even Disgaea) has no bearing at all on how enjoyable a game is & has even less to do with its quality.

Shit, IMO, w/ the lack of (minimal amounts of) voice acting, re-use of assets, and usually *average*-ish graphics...I'd even consider the Pokemon series to be "budget" (In a genius kind of way, of course:) as what company wouldn't want to - for relatively & comparatively low game-making budgets - provide a series that consistently sells so well & pleases their customers so much?!

Honestly & personally, to me, a descriptor of "BIG Budget" (aka "Blockbuster") is usually more of a turn-off & a warning to me that lots of $ was spent on voice-acting, motion-capture, shiny graphics, particle effects, shadow, lighting, and gritty *realism* when...99% of the time, I'd just prefer an uglier-looking game w/ less talking & less fantastically amazing, cutting-edge & 'Killer' graphics with more of a focus on better story-telling, deep, addicting, & complex battle systems and gameplay that's just engaging and, well...fun.

TL;DR

FUN > Flash...

Harvest Moon is an RPG?

Isn't it a simulation / strategy series?
