Put a little time into the Call of Duty WW2 Beta and I was actually going to give it some props. That new objective based "War" mode is pretty solid. Multi-staged offense/defense gameplay on unique maps, no killstreaks, maximum player count (Still a puny 12, but forced 10 to 12), and actually is pretty good. It's hardly a new mode for other games, but it's fun here and even introduces some of the building mechanics you would only see in the Zombie mode for putting up walls. Even kinda lets you use a tank, but it's more of a mobile turret than anything as you just get to be the gunner while escorting the tank.
Then I went to play some normal modes and the game returns to the usual dumpster fire CoD is known for. Bad spawns, players jumping around and getting easy kills, this includes snipers...Killstreak dumping that rewards the more dominant team, leading to way more squashes and less likely of a comeback. Hard to recover in a match if the other team is relentlessly throwing artillery and bombs at you. It just devolves back into most of what I hate about what CoD became after World at War, maybe Black Ops. I forget if I liked Black Ops or not (It had problems on PC). It's at least better than the near-future/scifi CoD's, as WW2 is stripped down compared to those, so it feels more like the older ones, but I can't see myself getting into this one...
Knowing how the CoD players are, War will probably just die off and most people won't even play it and that would be the only reason I even get this game...Oh well, I expect to like Battlefront 2 more anyways.
