You can if you want. Many people over the years said they would do it but it never happened.

Should those options have been removed? In a way, they are duplicates, but at times the developer or publisher name will vary slightly on the packaging so in another way, they are not. There are most definitely some games relating to those now-removed options that are like this. Take HotGen, for example:
HotGen
HotGen Studios
HotGen Studios Ltd.
HotGen Studios Limited

There isn't any rule that I can find that says how we should handle this information, but I try to use whatever information is mentioned on the packaging itself because relying on the actual item will always be the best source of information—not third-party information such as whatever GameFAQs reports (which I have encountered being wrong in many cases.) In my opinion, defaulting to HotGen for all relevant items is incorrect.

For that instance, perhaps it wasn't correct to merge Hotgen. As it seems they are HotGen from 2008 to present and HotGen Studios from 1998-2003. That is what Mobygames has for them.

We can't undo the merge now, only add HotGen Studios and change the relevant entries.

Typically for company names, Mobygames company history pages are the reference, not GameFAQs. And we do not need to use full corporate titles, as usually portions of names like Inc, Ltd, LLC, Co. (and their full terms) aren't needed except in rare cases.

HotGen Studios has been re-added as a Developer option.

No source is going to be complete or accurate, and MobyGames is no exception. Here is their page for Resident Evil Village. Despite all PAL copies of the game clearly listing CE Europe as the publisher, that name is not mentioned on MobyGames's site. You did not respond to my previous post's thoughts on the actual item being the best source of information. So, does this mean that Capcom Co. or Capcom U.S.A. is instead accurate only because some third-party site reports it as such?

In my opinion, the hierarchy for submitting this information should be:
1. Text found on item (physical) or official digital storefront (digital)
2. MobyGames
3. Game data
4. Other third-party sites

I am prioritizing information from the item itself because that is how we treat other fields typically, such as Item Number (albeit a huge exception to Sony items.) I would prioritize game data over MobyGames too, but that is not ideal for us who verify edit submission information.

Solebon (2048)
Beamdog (Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition)

It's not my call on how much each naming variant matters for the database, but I agree with you dhaabi for the most part. I think its very important to preserve the contents of the original packaging but if there's very small naming variants like "Inc" or "LLC" on the packaging but the company has had no official change of title during that time period, I don't really see the point in having listings for each one. There's only one company behind it, after all. But again, that's really up to you all to decide on. For now I'll just keep posting the ones that seem almost identical or have issues. I'll include my thought process for submitting companies for clean up.

"Creat Studios" and "Creat Studios, LLC"

"Nintendo SPD Group No. 1 Intelligent Sys" -- I believe this is missing a / or a , before Intelligent Sys
"Nintendo/Hudson Soft/Sharp Corpo" and "Nintendo/Hudson Soft/Sharp Corporation"
"Nippon Ichi Software" and "Nippon Ichi Software Inc."

Publisher Clean Up
"MTV Games / Electronic Arts" and "MTV Games, Electronic Arts" -- Thoughts: Same companies just different formatting

Side note: I have definitely noticed MobyGames and GameFAQs being super unreliable lately especially for digital games. Usually I have to have like 25+ tabs and the Wayback Machine pulled up just to research one game! :(
