Shovel Knight gets a physical release!
« on: July 01, 2015, 02:17:08 pm »
It's getting a physical release for Wii U, 3DS, PS4, and Xbox One on Oct. 13th (in the US anyway) for $20. This is awesome. I was just thinking a couple of weeks ago that I wish this game were released physically. Great for us collectors!

I'm pretty glad that they are going to release it at that price point for a physical copy, especially since most indie games nowadays don't get physical releases. Even though I already have a digital copy, I'm probably gonna buy this again either for 3DS or Wii U.

Glad I held out - there was a rumor of a physical release a few months ago which the developer denied, but I thought the box art at the time looked a little too real to be fake.

Finally I have been waiting for a physical release! Call me crazy but I think this will be the 3rd time I've bought the game. Shovel Knight is amazing.

For some reason I always knew it was getting a physical release, I was just holding off until it did. I'm very happy it is now!

Already preordered it.  It's apparently gonna have something special for the Nintendo release, though they said it might not be what we expect.

This is good news. I will finally get to see what all the hype is about this game.

Hoping the PS4 version is cross-buy, but that's the one I'm getting regardless.

Preordered it as soon as I saw it was betting a physical release.  Did the same for Mighty No. 9 and Wolfenstein the Old Blood.  After playing Stick it to the Man for free from PS+, I was more than happy to shell out $20 for the physical release to support the developer.  Same for Child of Light.  I would gladly pay $20 for Valiant Hearts should it see a PS4 release.

$20 is a great price-point for this indie games.  Last gen (PS360), it seemed everyone decided that $60 was the defacto price point for every game released.  It was ridiculous.  I missed the days of tiered pricing from the PS1 where a platformer was $30, a smaller game from a less-known dev was $20, your average game was $40 and your big-hitters like Resident Evil, Tomb Raider, Final Fantasy and Metal Gear were $50.  Even with the highest priced titles, I felt I was getting my money's worth out of them.

Picked it up last night, but unfortunately due to mandatory overtime, I looked at the package, admired the cover art, put it on the shelf and went to bed.  The box was pretty heavy so there must be some book or something inside of it.  Makes me even more excited.

Classic-style game?  Check.
Physical release?  Check.
Actual manual and/or other goodies?  Check, check.

The bf picked this up last night, and I thought three things were cool:
- the 3DS version supports the Shovel Knight amiibo that will be out later
- it has AN ACTUAL INSTRUCTION BOOKLET. It's full color, has images of the characters, shows controls for your moves with illustrations and everything.  It almost made me shed a tear thinking about the good ol' days when "instruction booklets" weren't just the front panel of the folded health & safety paperwork.
- includes a digital copy of the soundtrack (which is awesome)
