No tiddies for you

Didn't saw a thread with this controversy, maybe this franchise it doesn't have that many amount of followers here at the forum but what the hell I'm one of those fucking perverts that are asking why the hell Koei Tecmo is following order from a bunch of people that I really don't know who gave them the power to decide what is right and what not but the release of this third game will no available for North America  >:(

It's not a real controversy.  No one stopped them from releasing the game here, it's clear they are trying to just get attention for a game that isn't a big seller over here and not the kind of game that is usually well received over here.  It's not getting a European release either.  They are either not wanting to localize it and trying to get more attention for importing it (Play Asia was stoking the fires simply so they could make money off this), or they'll release it later, but they just wanted to stoke the fires themselves, so that when they do release it here, there's a group of "Anti-Censorship" (it wasn't censorship) guys, running out to buy copies out of some sort of misguided support for game freedom.

Team Ninja is not a company that has ever cared about how their silly jiggle physic games are viewed lol

I thought this thread was going to be about the removal of the boob slider thing in Xenoblade Chronicles X.

No shutup though!

As the Super Best Friends said - Why the fuck do you care about a game you wouldn't buy anyways? You're ruining it for the tiny audience it has anyways...

I thought it could have been about that when I saw the thread title.  But I don't quite grasp the reasoning behind this, it didn't stop them from defending the games contents and the fanbase mentality before.  Why the change of heart, hell why even make the goddamn game.  The sales numbers are just gonna be even more embarrassing.

I smell something fishy, maybe this could be a marketing ploy.

I always thought the DOAX series sold better in the US than in Japan, though the reason seems obviously linked to the Xbox consoles they've been released on. Xbox has always been a flop in Japan.

I've read up a bit on it and I don't think they are trying to promote the game, in fact I think they are intentionally avoiding talking about it. Fans keep asking about why it's not getting localized outside of Japan. They answer. America is the land of "everything offends someone" and political correctness. The portrayal of women in video games has been a hot-button topic and I've avoided talking about it because I don't want to take a chance that I might hurt someone's feelings.

With that being said, I agree with doafan that this game should be localized. The female form is pleasing to the eye, hence why billions upon billions of dollars are spent on things like porn, hookers, strippers, etc. people like Anita Sarkeesian need to shut the fuck up. If they don't like the way a woman is portrayed in a certain video game, don't fucking play it!  Instead of venting their indignation at digital portrayals of women, why don't they do something productive like trying to stop real life women from wearing a thong and yoga pants?  That's a helluva lot more damaging when it comes to the objectification of women because the wearer is basically saying "Check out how hot and jiggly my ass is in these pants!"  It would probably also help a lot of poor husbands and boyfriends from being slapped because their significant other caught them taking a peek.

There you go Sarkeesian!  You could simultaneously fight the objectification of women and domestic violence at the same time!

They have been getting shit for their games hilariously over-the-top portrayal of women for years now. The situation right now isn't any different other than there are a few more people that are willing to call them out.  Rather than just say "We have no plans to bring it to the west", which they apparently said before already, they decided to attach an agenda to it and I feel they did it knowingly because if you know the situation, you aren't going to want to bring that heat down on you on purpose unless you have hope that gets people talking about a game that most people don't actually care about lol

It didn't help that Play Asia was purposefully stoking the fires and very obviously trying to make the controversy even more real, simply so they could sell more copies of the game.

I'd probably lean on the "SJW" (Not using that seriously) side of things, because I'm all for supporting diversity and creating better characters, particularly women who've gotten the shit end of things for years, but I'm also fine if people want to do goofy sexy stuff like DOA, Valkyrie Drive (Which is basically "Lesbians: The Game"), and whatever all the other Japanese developers want to release lol Have more wacky male sexy stuff too if you want, doesn't bother me.  Push for quality where it matters, but have your fun to if you'd like.

I've always been a little bit confused by this sentiment. I'm not trying to start an argument, but have women truly had such a troubling history of representation in video games? It's true that games starring female characters are in the minority, but any time there's a playable woman in a game, she's almost always portrayed just as strong, brave and capable as any of the male characters.

Looking at some historical examples...

Gauntlet - the valkyrie isn't a meek bow user, she's a full on melee powerhouse
Street Fighter II - Chun Li was just as strong as any other character
Double Dragon II - there's no playable female characters, but female punks do attack you as an equal threat to male enemies
Castlevania III - Syphia has the most devastating attacks in the game
Super Mario Bros 2 - Peach's float ability makes her essentially the best character
Metroid - Samus obviously
Chrono Trigger - Not only is the brainiest character Lucca female, so is the brawniest with Ayla
Mortal Kombat - Isn't Sonya a special agent and martial arts expert?
Golden Axe - Tyris
The Simpsons Arcade - Even Marge and Lisa are just as strong as Homer and Bart

Those are just some of the most famous examples I can think of, there's tons of others scattered across old consoles. Of course there's gonna be crazy fanservice games like Oneechanbara and Senran Kagura (which I also enjoy), but these aren't anywhere near mainstream. I guess my point is that there are way more positive portrayals of women in games than people often give credit for. And for an industry that was for years targeted almost entirely at males, that's not too bad right?

There are some, sure, but with all those examples you brought up, there's a 100 more that are nothing more than damsels in distress, or the main guys motivation for revenge, or all sorts of other things.  There's also issues within the companies themselves, where Naughty Dog refused to alter their cover of The Last of Us, which focused on Ellie, instead of going with something more generic with Joel on the cover, because the idea is that men on the covers are gonna sell the game better.  It's mostly just about being more creative and it's gotten better in the past few years for sure.  Nowadays there's a better Lara Croft, Bayonetta, probably some others if I wasn't dead tired right now.  And with what you brought up, Peach is still usually getting kidnapped by Bowser or relegated to secondary co-op status and Samus hasn't had a respected game to her name in almost a decade now, since Other M was received poorly, which funny enough, involved Team Ninja.  Even the one Metroid game announced right now has nothing to do with her, though hopefully she gets a game next year since it's her 30th anniversary too along with Zelda.

Speaking of which, I need to play Other M just to see what its like.  Heard about it for so long, never gave it a go lol

A lot of people is saying this even AlphaOmegaSin leave his comments in a video and I really doesn't believe that this is a marketing strategy, at least not from Koei Tecmo, want to think that they really doesn't give a shit about other countries, maybe am wrong but the whole idea that one group was able to censorship or avoid the release of a video game at least for me it's so stupid but if its true then we are talking about serious business because it this group of people can make this happen with one game who can assure me that they will not gonna do the same with another titles ?

Every time something like this happens people get all upset at some unseen group of people who are depriving them of their boobs. "THEY don't want me lookin' at digital boobies! THEY are prudes! THEY should just quit tryin' to censor mah games!"

There's 1 reason this isn't being localized, and only 1 - they don't think it will sell. If they thought it would, they'd bring it over in a heartbeat. There is no sinister group of anti-boob activists behind this move.

Agreed.

They already released a DoA game this year and no one (apparently almost literally) cared as I've barely heard anything positive or negative about it.  So I can see why KT would have cold feet about this release.

I also think it's important to note that the original tweets that started this (that are in the first post here) from the Community Manager have since been deleted with KT issuing your usual "did not reflect the opinions of" corporate statement.  As for the tweets from Play-Asia rep, I think it's important to keep in mind that they have a financial interest in drumming up "controversy."

There is no powerful group of "SJW's" that are keeping games from getting released.  I doubt many people were even paying attention to the game until the fuss was raised over the game not being localized.
