Site Feedback / Site is getting slower?
« on: December 20, 2015, 04:40:37 pm »
Hey folks,

Is it just me, or is this site getting slower? I access the site from multiple locations using multiple devices, and it's pretty sluggish when accessing games or adding them to my collection.

has anyone else experienced this?

thanks again,

General / How do you guys enjoy your remasters?
« on: February 10, 2015, 10:11:19 pm »
Hey guys,

just wanted to know what everyone else thinks about this...

TONS of older games are getting Hi-Def remasters lately... Jak & Daxter, Tomb Raider, ICO/Shadows of Colossus... the list keeps growing.

Now... The way I see it, there's 2 ways to go about enjoying these games..

1.) Play the older original release first, to enjoy the games for what they were at the time.  Then, play the Remaster afterwords, so you can really compare and see how much they have improved the title.  The only downside to this option, is that you've already experienced the game before hand, so the story and gameplay leave no surprises.

OR
option 2.)  Skip the original, and jump right into the remaster... some would say to enjoy the game in the best way possible, with improved framerate & graphics, and as a fresh experience.

I've been wanting to ask this question for a LONG time now... please chime in and tell me what you think.  ;)

Site Feedback / Do we really need a Clothing Catagory?
« on: December 02, 2014, 06:42:01 pm »
I'm sure I'm going to get a lot of flak for this.... but come on guys... a clothing catagory?  we're a video game database... not a closet organizer....WTF!  ;)

seriously though, this site is starting to loose focus on video games... in my honest opinion, i think the only things that should be allowed on this site are:

1.) Games/Systems
2.) Gaming accessories
3.) Strategy guides

and Maybe old game magazines...  anyone else feel me on this?  ;D

Video Game Database Discussion / How to format accessories
« on: November 28, 2014, 12:26:48 am »
Hey guys,

Just wanted a little input from some of the higher ups around here... how would you like game accessories to be listed when submitting them into the database?

let's say for instance... The AV Adapter for PS1... now, the category would be PlayStation Accessory obviously, but how would you like the title?  would it just be "AV Adapter"... or would you prefer "AV Adapter for PlayStation".

Another example would be an Xbox Memory Card.   Would you just want "Memory Card", or a more descriptive "Memory Card for Xbox".

Personally I can go either way, but would like to get everyone's input on this.  Especially some of you anal folks who love proper punctuation ;D

General / Letting go of Rare games even though they suck
« on: October 28, 2014, 10:52:23 pm »
Hey folks,

Anyone else have a hard time letting go of really rare games?  Some of them suck stanky baby diaper, but the collector in me knows that If I let it go, I'll probably never get it back for the awesome price I paid for it ;).  Anyone else feel me on this?

Site Feedback / CD-i Music & Movies
« on: April 21, 2014, 11:24:51 pm »
Hey team,

Was wondering if we should get separate categories for CD-i Music & Movie's.  I never knew it, but recently I acquired a huge amount of Music & movie's made specifically for the Philips CD-i.

What do you think... separate categories, or just list them under CD-i?

thanks,

Hardware and Tech / How to identify CD Laser Pick up in old Vintage walkman
« on: February 05, 2014, 01:29:52 am »
Hey folks,

I bought an old portable CD Player the other day for a few bucks. It's an old Citizen CBM 2000, manufactured in Japan 1987.

I was wondering if there's anyway to tell what model CD Laser unit it has inside, without taking the whole thing apart.

My Turbo CD is failing, and I was hoping to replace laser inside.  The Turbo CD uses the Sony KSS-162a or KSS-220a, which was in many Sony Discmans around that time (1987-1989) (check the link below for more details).

http://pcengine.freeforums.org/repost-of-tg-cd-total-capacitor-replacement-chart-t31.html

My question is... are Sony CD Lasers only available Sony Discmen? What are the chances this Citizen CD Player uses a sony cd laser?

here's a crappy youtube video of the CD player I have lol: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oX8QRFdL6aI

thanks for your help!  :D
