Video Game Database Discussion / IBM PCjr Section?
« on: July 08, 2023, 12:32:23 am »
Hey guys,

Just curious if we have a IBM PCjr section? I'm asking because some of the software actually came on cartridges. The one I have is called "Hardware Reference Library - Cartridge BASIC", and I'm honestly not quite sure where to file it under. Thanks!

General / Re: Yellowing screens of moderns handhelds?
« on: March 30, 2023, 04:38:05 pm »
Warmsignal,

Thank you for bringing light to this matter. I have many handhelds myself, but only one with severe screen yellowing like your own, which is a white Nintendo DS system. I bought it used so I can't speak for the history of the unit, but I will try and upload some pictures in the next few days. I always thought it was a bit odd. Glad to hear I'm not alone, and I'd love to figure out how this happens.

Site Feedback / Rejected edits and site advancement
« on: February 23, 2023, 01:31:55 pm »
Hey Folks,

So I just wanted to make a small observation about rejected edits. As a member of this community for over 10 years, I take a lot of pride in this site along with everyone else involved. Every time I log in it's like coming home after a long day's work and finally getting to sit down at the dinner table. At this point the site itself is almost as nostalgic as some of my beloved games. It's comfort food really.

Over the past few recent years however I've noticed many of my edits being rejected. I honestly feel this is hindering the progress and maturation of the site, which relies heavily on user submitted information. I put a lot of time and care into researching accurate information before submitting it to the site, and often times it still gets rejected.

More times that not I'll be reading the back of the box in my hands while comparing that to the source of information I find on the web, just to make sure everything lines up 100%. Sometimes I even boot up the game just to make sure the developer and publisher logo's coincide with the facts as well. I genuinely take this very seriously, but with the amount of rejects I receive it's just not worth spending the time anymore.

At the end of the day, I just want to see this site grow and flourish into the best damn video game database in existence.

Thank you for your time,
-Retromangia

Like they always say... if you want something done right, you have to do it yourself.

First pack up your whole collection, electronics, and any valuables yourself. Finally, once you have everything packed up into a u-haul, you can hire some movers if need be, to come in and move any heavy furniture / appliances.  Also, make sure you get moving insurance. Hope this helps. Stay saucy.

Hey Vivigamer, I just wanted to say thank you for all your time and hard work. I know how it feels to spend a lot of time editing an image just right, just to have it be denied or replaced entirely.

Have you ever considered using protective sleeves ? I bought some DVD sized and Blu-Ray sized . Haven’t started putting my games in them yet. I also got some assorted sizes for the different manuals as well . It’s crazy how much money some of the manuals are worth on their own just to have them clipped inside unprotected bugs me. Especially Genesis and SMS manuals, they’re always in rough shape and fall out when you open the case half the time.

I actually do have protective bags for my games, but haven't started bagging them up yet. I will probably bag up all my sealed games to keep the seal from becoming torn, and possibly my CIB expensive games as well, just to keep my friends grubby paws off :). I really don't care for the look of bagged games on my shelf, but will make the exception for sealed games.

As for the manuals issue, trust me I'm right there with you on that. I've started bagging up my manuals for my CIB N64/SNES games. The N64 manuals are especially prone to damage every time you try and take the game out, just because of the way the inner trays are designed inside some N64 boxes. I should probably make a video on that one day to show how I store the books once all bagged up.

Yeah I never keep my games too tightly packed on a shelf. If you do, over time you will scuff the outer plastic on the case, causing it lose that shiny fresh out the shrink wrap feeling, you know what I mean. I always allow for just enough wiggle room between each so to say, but never too lose where there not standing up nicely. I also never stack games vertically if I can avoid it, as this is the easiest way to put dents into your case artwork.

Terribly disappointed with the showcase. Come on Capcom, people actually enjoy other games than Monster Hunter and Resident Evil.

Off Topic / Re: Johnny Depp Or Leonardo Dicaprio?
« on: April 24, 2022, 06:50:53 am »
Great topic... I've always been a bigger fan of Leo. Now don't get me wrong, Johnny is a fantastic actor, and I really need to go back and watch his gigantic catalog of movies. Leo's movies just tend to be very reflective, introspective, and relatable to me.  Honestly the two need to make another movie, it's been almost 30 years since Gilbert Grape...Holy shit I'm old!

Sorry I don't have much to add, but that's because you fuckin' nailed it son!  8)

I kept a high value video game in the basement and then the basement flooded. Does that count?

Trip! oh dude I'm so sorry man. Where you able to rescue anything? You just figured out my worst nightmare.

Site Feedback / What do you consider an official release?
« on: February 21, 2022, 10:05:32 pm »
I've noticed many third party accessories are now falling under the category of "unofficial release", which I believe to be wrong. Are we only considering first party accessories official now?

Because to me, all the old third party brands such as Nuby, Naki, Interact, Mad Catz etc, these were HUGE, well known third party companies producing these peripherals. I truly believe these should fall under "Official".

To me, an "UNofficial release" would be something like this, a special adapter some guy is selling on the forums, or a piece of homebrew software. Now THOSE are unofficial.

Thanks for hearing me out

Playing on a flat screen just feels wrong. It may look "cleaner" through HDMI, but that doesn't necessarily mean it looks better. I compare it to a boob job, it just doesn't feel right.  ;)

Get yourself a nice Sony Wega and some HD Retrovision component cables, and you'll never look back.
