Title: July 2014 - Recently Added to Collection/Recently Purchased
Post by: blipcs76 on July 01, 2014, 09:43:30 am
Found the following at an estate sale this weekend.  Paid just under $40:

(http://i83.photobucket.com/albums/j299/Vejadu/IMG_1233_zps073acd00.jpg) (http://s83.photobucket.com/user/Vejadu/media/IMG_1233_zps073acd00.jpg.html)

Some really great titles in there.  Gaiares, Sagaia, Batman & Robin, Bible Adventures, Sword of Vermillion, MK 1&2, Sonic 1-3, etc.  And I had been looking for Darksiders II for Wii U and snatched it here for $5.

That makes a total of 4 Genesis systems I've acquired in just the past week.  I'm not sure the best way to start thinning out my stack of them (I have like 8 or 9 spares at this point).  They don't sell nearly as easily as Nintendo systems do; locally there's not much interest in Sega -- otherwise I'll have to start throwing them up on eBay or taking them to local game stores to cash them in.  Any other ideas?

Cool Spot is great too! I suck at this game, but it's pretty fun.

Heh, I hit an Estate sale this weekend myself.

No joy on the gaming front -but- there was a lot of really neat, Asian-themed items...

You guys ever put a game in your collection just because of the box art?  For example, I don't really collect for the Genesis so I don't know anything about these games, but looking at that pic I'd personally hang onto both Sword of Vermilion & Brutal just because of their artwork.

I cant comment on Brutal but Sword of Vermilion is worth playing anyhow. I enjoyed that game when it was first released. It was really unique and a cool RPG 16 bit title. Give it a go sometime. Its on the Genesis collection for the PS2 and on the VC for the Wii so its pretty cheap to get access to if you dont have a Genesis handy.

I have one of those "modern" Genesis systems that takes carts & the classic controllers but also has a ton of games built into it, so it may actually be built in there.  I also have the PS3 Genesis collection - dunno if it's on there or not either.  But if I ever come across actual Genesis games in the wild that look interesting at all I pick them up (assuming they're cheap, which they usually are).  Just doesn't seem to happen that often around here.

I've wanted to give Sword of Vermillion a shot since the early 90's when I saw it in EGM.  I didn't own a Genesis when I was younger though, so I never had the chance until now.

Hey guys! It's been ages since I've stopped by to say hi so I just wanted to drop in and say "Hello!"

I'm still plugging away on Sega CD and Sega Saturn full sets, but I've also picked up a new addiction....Metal Slug games on AES!!! Oh my gosh do I love them so! There's really no better definitive game of a genre than Metal Slug. So far I have Metal Slug, Metal Slug X, and Metal Slug 4. If you know of anyone selling MS 3 or MS 5 on AES, please contact me!

Other than that I've been playing lots of pinball and filling the rest of  my  time with....boring ol' work! ;)

I hope all you guys are doing well and I still sneak by from time to time to see everyone's goodies. Lot's of collectors here now compared to the old days.

Bye for now!

Just had the mailman at my door and that are game console I mentioned came today.  ;D

When people talk 3DO most people think the Goldstar version is the rarest console, but there is another that's even more harder to come by. In Japan there's the Sonyo 3DO TRY and finally found one that wasn't outrageously priced.
I wasn't sure if all 3DO's played Japanese games and I tested the 2 games I got on my US models FZ-1 and the FZ-10 and they do play. Good to know if you wanna import 3DO games.

It came with 8 games, 2 Japan 3DO games CIB and 6 US games all disc only.
- Road & Track Overdriven' (need for speed) (JP)
- Emit (JP)
- Gex
- Escape from Monster Manor
- Out of this Wolrd
- Syndicate
- Alone in the Dark
- Demolition Man

Found a few things today for a nice price.  Nothing great for PS2, but they were all for just a buck together, so couldn't pass that up.  Was surprised to find the Rambo 3 for SMS though, just because they have a complete SMS on the thrift shop shelf with like a dozen games for a 115 bucks in a bagged bundle, so finding a loose one was cool. Never found a SMS game in my hunts lol And then grabbed Splinter Cell 3D for the heck of it because it was on sale for 8 bucks at BJ's Wholesale.  They have a few other DS and 3DS titles for 8 bucks, mostly Lego related, but didn't feel like grabbing them.

I never thought of Harvest Moon as a "budget title". It's a major series of games.
It's pretty much the leader of Farming RPG's.

I would have to agree with flea. I could see if it was a one-off but they've been going strong since the SNES days. It's gotten big enough to inspire a whole industry of social games like Happy Farm, FarmVille and Farm Town.

AND...

...(relative to other flagship titles in other popular genres); comparatively speaking - I'd bet that they're still on the very low-end of what current video game making budgets are.

I agree with Kenny here - I know the series has been around forever but it's never been very high-profile even amongst other JRPG enthusiasts.  Not knocking the series, I honestly haven't really played any of them long enough to form an opinion, so they may be great games - but there are many great games that I'd consider "B" tier.

Exactly  :D

Most of the games that I like the most are NOT the bigger-budget games.

So, saying that a game/series is, by default, a "budget" one (Harvest Moon, Atelier games, Neptunia games, Hell...to a little more of an extent - even Disgaea) has no bearing at all on how enjoyable a game is & has even less to do with its quality.

Shit, IMO, w/ the lack of (minimal amounts of) voice acting, re-use of assets, and usually *average*-ish graphics...I'd even consider the Pokemon series to be "budget" (In a genius kind of way, of course:) as what company wouldn't want to - for relatively & comparatively low game-making budgets - provide a series that consistently sells so well & pleases their customers so much?!

Honestly & personally, to me, a descriptor of "BIG Budget" (aka "Blockbuster") is usually more of a turn-off & a warning to me that lots of $ was spent on voice-acting, motion-capture, shiny graphics, particle effects, shadow, lighting, and gritty *realism* when...99% of the time, I'd just prefer an uglier-looking game w/ less talking & less fantastically amazing, cutting-edge & 'Killer' graphics with more of a focus on better story-telling, deep, addicting, & complex battle systems and gameplay that's just engaging and, well...fun.

TL;DR

FUN > Flash...

...Always!

Rune Factory, which I think is somehow 'related' to, spun-off from, and/or integrated with Harvest Moon (which I suspect Greg was thinking of) is more of an RPG -but-

Yep; HM is more of a Sim.

Eh, probably, I've just always considered it JRPG-esque - I know there's a storyline you play through, etc which there usually isn't in most strictly sim games.  But of course you don't get into random encounters with cows & chickens.  :P

Or...do you???   :o

I'm really enjoying Viewtiful Joe even though I'm not a huge beat-em-up fan.

I finally got a Sega Mark III complete in box. Only cost $150, cheap considering most want over $300 for this console.
Now I have a complete Sega SG-1000 Mk I through III all complete in their box.  ;D ;D ;D

Swung by TRU.  Unfortunately they didn't have the PS3 Skylanders starter sets on sale, just the sets that assume you already have the portal.  Oh well, still grabbed these things for about $21 after tax - not bad at all.  :)

He has not posted a SG Awesome video in a couple of months, but I did see him online here yesterday.  Probably busy/lurking.

Yes, they light up when I turn on the console and stay on as I play my games on it. So far, I've had any problems with the system which I'm happy about since I've gotten screwed over on 2 original xboxes that turned on, but the dvd drive wouldn't read the discs of the games. But yeah, my halo xbox works perfectly fine, I don't know why your buttons don't light up.

Call of Juarez Gunslinger

An overlooked gem of a game.  Budget digital release or not, that's one of the best FPS games I've played in ages.

After doing some research last night & discovering that the Wii U Skylanders portal *WILL* work with the PS3, I made another trip to TRU this afternoon:

(https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3874/14405936807_13f01b4034_c.jpg) (https://flic.kr/p/nX1c7P)IMG_3514 (https://flic.kr/p/nX1c7P)

Got the PS3 Giants portal owner's pack for $12.50, the tower display/storage case for $5, the Giants arena display thing for $7.50, 2 packs of Giants buttons for $1.25/each, the Wii U pro controller charger for $3 and the speaker dock for $3.50.  Oh, and 2 multi-packs of screen protectors that contain screen protectors for DS Lite/DSi/DSi XL/3DS/Vita for .20/each.  Tempted to go back & pretty much wipe them out of those, they could really come in handy when I'm cleaning up handhelds found in yard sales.

I got Totally Rad  and 1943 for NES! Also, Breath of Fire II, Contra III and Soul Blazer for SNES, which will now make it my 100th game for the system!

CAREFUL! That's a slippery slope :D  I never intended to collect different Gameboy models and colors, but after picking up a couple for next to nothing at garage sales, I found myself getting hooked on finding more and more of them in different colors and models.  I'm currently trying to track down a Dandelion yellow GBC to complete my 'basic' GBC set.  I'm not going after those odd ones like the Pikachu or Tommy Hilfiger models though.  I'm currently fighting the urge to collect the different colors of N64 systems.

There was a mini-game (somewhere) in the PS2 game Star Ocean 3: Till the End of Time that reminded me of Archon, because it had 'chess' pieces that would (Rock, Paper, Sciccors-style) battle it out with each other; does anyone else remember that?

... I don't even know where to start.

So today I went to do my usual rounds, looking for merchandise for the store. I picked up Marvel Ultimate Alliance for PC for $3. I also found a bunch of Japanese DVDs in jewel cases at one my usual haunts - US movies and some TV show boxsets, but they were sample (Not For Resale) versions, like that Japanese Street Fighter DVD I grabbed a while back. But right there mixed with everything else was a Final Fantasy VII DVD. Not Advent Children. Something else.

Okay, you see that disc on the right? That's the DVD. It cost me two bucks.

It apparently sold for $1500 two years ago on eBay. Yes, $1500. DOLLARS.

http://thelifestream.net/review-the-toshiba-ffvii-dvd/

Apparently the disc is ridiculously rare and expensive because it was only sold bundled with a Japanese PC system. I am -beyond- flabbergasted at finding this. I thought it would be something stupidly common, but not this! Just... holy crap!

Edit:
Ah, poop. It appears that this thing isn't worth much nowadays, some Japanese stores have it in stock for 3600 Yen (30 bucks). Welp. :p

On the one hand... MONEY. But on the other... it's one of those rare things that I... just don't know.

And I wouldn't sell it to get games, I'd sell it to put the money in the bank.

That's the same question I was going to ask. ;) That's awesome, regardless - find of the decade. Has anyone else here found something worth so much for so little? Heck, makes The Flea's $2 Earthbounds look like Duck Hunt carts.  :P

It's not really worth that much anymore. The DVD was ripped and posted online by the guy who bought it for that amount, it's even posted on Youtube.

So it's not really an Earthbound killer find... but it's up there, at least.

Edit: The item is available for thirty bucks at some Japanese stores, guess I'll just keep it. :p

Oh man. That sucks.

I was getting all excited for you.

Now I'm not so sure.

There's one site that appeared to have the DVD in stock for $30, but I ran the page through Babelfish and it says that it's out of stock. I can't find any other site that sells it, so I dunno. Maybe if some FF7 fanboy shows up I'll sell it to him. Eventually. :p

Had some good things come in the mail today.

First I got another japanese Sega Saturn game called Hanaumi Taisen Columns, a Columns game based on the Sakura Wars series.

Next on the GameBoy color I got Batman Beyond Return of the Joker, not much to say about this one I just got it because Batman Beyond

Finally I was able to get myself a copy of Secret of Mana on the SNES  ;D Really excited to finally have this game

Depending on what you want for it, I may be that fanboy!

And to add to this thread in general, I was walking around Wal-mart and found the clearance isle and the first thing I see is a Mario costume complete in the box for $5. Heh I had to buy it. :D Also went to Toys R Us and picked up the last missing Skylander for Swap force (not counting all the weird limited edition) : Legendary Night shift. Had a coupon that was going to expire at the end of the weekend and figured I may as well use it.

I've never imported a game yet...

There were (a few) OST's that I wanted badly enough that I ordered them on Amazon (from Japan - like NieR, FF-X (4-disc set + artbook,), X-2, Folklore (FolkSouls in JP)) & maybe a few more.

Swung by Gamestop at lunch and picked up some super cheap-o's:  Battalion Wars II (Wii), Feel the Magic (DS) & Master of the Monster Lair (DS).  Just over $5 total.  :P

I didn't know what MotML was, but it was marked $1.99 and had the Atlus logo on it, so that was all the convincing I needed!  ;)

Speaking of seldom-seen 'ATLUS'-imprinted DS games...if anyone ever comes across one called "My World, My Way" - I highly recommend it; it's fun, it's ATLUS, and it's adorable (seriously...you can "Pout" your way into just about anything & everything that you could ever want and/or think of)  ;D

I've heard of that one, don't have it though. :P It's interesting, that's one way to put it. Pretty original plot too, har har. Not good, but original. You don't often get games where the main character is on a quest just to get a boyfriend. ::)

Hrm, it's about $6 used at Gamestop - but according to their site, not a single store within 100 miles of me, or within 100 miles of anywhere I'll be in the foreseeable future, has it.  :o

My World My Way and Master of the Monster's Lair are VERY similar, at least graphically-wise. They look the same and controls are the same, but MotML lets you build a dungeon, while MWMW lets you you visit them. MWMW is definitely awesome though, I totally recommend  ;D MotML I haven't played much, but it still seemed nice.

Yay for cheap PSP games. EB Games had a sale to get rid of all the old PSP stuff that they don't take trade-ins for now.
-Dead or Alive Paradise
-Every Extend Extra
-Kingdom of Paradise
-Naruto: Ultimate Ninja Heroes 2
-Traxxpad: Portable Studio (not exactly a game)
-Wipeout: Pulse

Definitely won't be CIB, 99.9% odds that will be cart-only everywhere you manage to find it.  Still, just the cart is going for over $20 online.

And I was wrong, it wasn't Master of the Monster's Lair I picked up today, it was Deep Labyrinth.  I had left it in the car & was going by memory & what the MotML cart looked like.  ;)  Atlus game all the same.

IIRC, Deep Labyrinth is not a game that you'd be wanting to play in public - as, I *think* that it's one of "those" DS games that has you either yelling in and/or blowing in the mic a lot  :-[

Anyone play/know anything about Infinite Space for the DS?

I put MWMW in the same charmingly fun, eccentric, & whimsical category as something like a Mr Mosquito.

When I bought it last year (or 2 years ago? Can't remember) I bought it "new" (GS new) for $35, but it was going for over $50 used at the time, so I took it anyway. I didn't know about the game before walking in GS that day, but when I saw a pink, cutesy, girly border with ATLUS labeled on it, I went straight to the internet wondering "why the hell is this girly game made by Atlus"  ;D haha.

There's a PSN Flash sale going on right now, a bunch of games on sale for .99.  I grabbed Legend of Dragoon & Wild Arms 2, and while I was at it I picked up Stella Deus which is on sale for $3.99 this week.  It's great having those PSOne classics so I can play them on my Vita - wish they would make the PS2 classics playable on it as well, that would absolutely rock.  No idea why they don't, actually.   :-\

Please don't do it again. I'm sure everyone catches up with the posts at varying times of the day, deleting and reposting stuff only muddles things.

Probably because the Vita isn't powerful enough, hardware wise, to run the PS2 emulator they use.

Also, when I booted Sonic, it was all in Japanese and I was pretty confused, but happy at the same time to have a new Japanese game! And then I noticed in the settings that there are 5 languages on the cartridge.  :( haha.

SNK Arcade Collection Vol. 1 (Wii)
Soulcalibur Legends (Wii)
Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz (Wii)
Bust-A-Move Bash! (Wii)
Fracture (PS3)

$18.50 total after tax.

PS1 - Gauntlet Legends (disc only) $1
PS2 - Final Fantasy XII (disc only) $1

Dropped into Goodwill and found some good, complete GC games for $4 each:

Mario Kart Double Dash
Mario Power Tennis
Mario Gold Toadstool Tour (x2)

Isn't that one of the rarest manuals on the SNES? I'm not too knowledgeable when it comes to box/manual rarity, but I'm pretty sure I've heard about this somewhere.

Yes. It's very difficult to acquire. It was a very late release, and a terrible game.

After searching for some time I found a seller that wasn't asking 50 plus for one. This one happens to be from Japan.

They are out in Japan and Europe only and have never been announced for NA yet. I'm still hoping, though... I don't see why they wouldn't.  :-\

Hrm, that sucks. For some reason I thought they had been announced over here & I was waiting on it.  It's definitely my favorite of the themed controllers.

Who knows? It still might come to North America. lol I've got bitten on foreign releases before. I bought the Wii Mini in Canada a few months before it was announced for the states.

Many news outlines were reporting in April about the Peach and Yoshi theme controllers coming out May 30 along with Mario Kart 8. What many of them didn't mention was that the official statement was from NoE. NA got the Peach Wiimotes at least. I've only seen them at GameStop though. Have any of you seen them elsewhere?

Picked up Tornado Outbreak for the PS3 yesterday for $4.50.  It's a game I used to have, and remember having fun with it, but got rid of it for whatever reason.  It's not expensive but is somewhat scarce - the disk the guy gave me last night was trashed (paint scraped off the top  :o) but luckily they had 2 copies so I got it swapped out at lunch today for a flawless one - which matches the case & manual.  Nice to see that someone else in the wild takes care of their games.  ;)  Anyway, glad they had 2 copies - the next closest Gamestop to me that has it is 90 miles away...

I also swung by Best Buy at lunch today, and through a deal they're running online picked up used copies of Assassin's Creed: Black Flag & inFamous: Second Son (both for PS4) for $50 + tax.  I already had the LE extra stuff for Black Flag from when I caught the PS3 version on clearance, so now I have the complete LE set.  :)

You can't. You have to upload it to a hosting site first like Photobucket or Facebook, and then link it using the Image button in the toolbar above where you post.

I ordered Kid Icarus for NES. I think the only first-party games I still need on my NES is the original Mario Bros., Donkey Kong Classics, Rad Racer, Mach Rider, and Wrecking Crew.

I also had to re-purchase Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow because the first one I bought got lost by the post office. Luckily eBay refunded me for it (Lord knows the USPS would never admit a mistake). This completes my Metroidvania collection. I have all the Metroids, and all the non-linear Castlevanias, now.

I grabbed what amounted to a free copy of MGSV: Ground Zeroes.  :D  Gamestop started a b2g1 sale on used Wii games exactly 2 days after I bought 3 used $5 Wii games, so I returned those & rebought them to get the $5 back.  They also have a $5 off any used PS4 coupon for 3,000 PUR points this week, so I used some points to get one of  those.  Coupon + $5 = exactly what GZ costs used now. ;)

I don't normally like to do unboxing/pick-up videos but this is special. I'm still in the process of cleaning and identifying the games. There's a few I plan on keeping but most I'm gonna sell. Once everything is cataloged I'll make a post in the marketplace. First come, first serve! I'll give you folks a week before I start posting to eBay.

It's a fun game with, IMO, the best cast of characters since the 1st game.

It's also the only one (of three) of the PS3 Disgaea games that I managed to plat!

It helps that most of the main characters in D2 are from the first game. :P
All of the trophies in the PS3 version of Disgaea 3 are pretty hard to get unless you do a lot of postgame stuff. Not sure about 4 though, haven't gotten around to getting it yet. I'm really looking forward to playing D2. :)

Post photos of the ones you don't recognize, we can help you figure them out.

I've identified most of them so far. These are the remaining ones I've yet to find (and clean). Late tonight I'll begin testing.

1: I hate you, damn Canadians.

2: Need for Speed: The Run and Syndicate can be activated and downloaded through EA Origin. Brink is a Steamworks game, you can use the key on there and download the game. You can also get a Steam key for Divinity II: Developer's Cut by contacting Larian Studios (http://www.larian.com/forums/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=458771) with the info they request.

I think you can also activate Prince of Persia, Driver and Settlers 7 through Ubisoft's Uplay client and download the games there.

Sacred 2 though, that game's retail only. ^^;

*makes grabby hands for Divinity 2 and NFS The Run*

Folks,

I'm very excited.

It's been an amazing week!

Monday began with my coworker giving me this out of the blue...

Then on Thursday this arrived from burningdoom:

Turbo Grafx 16 Console with:
Keith Courage in the Alpha Zones
Alien Crush

Saturday I had what I would consider my first "Awesome Haul" after a morning of garage sale-ing.

I didn't have a planned route or anything. I just woke up early and had the itch. So I hopped in the car and drove the route I usually take to go to church.

I always see signs for sales on Sunday, but I don't do commerce on Sundays so it always makes me wonder what I'm missing.

Saturday there was a sale on nearly every block.

In spite of this the first hour and a half was something of a bust.

I only had one neat find.

Indian Jones and the Fate of Atlantis

Not the CD-Rom re-release but the original 286 version on 5.25 floppy disks. :)

It's complete in box. Manual, registration card, a map, a piece of paper with notes taken by the owner. A newspaper and even the original purchase receipt and even more stuff. It was like opening a time capsule. (If folks are interested I can post pictures of the complete contents).

The next few sales were a bust. So I decided to hang it up and head home.

On the way I stumbled on this lot:

I got everything pictured for $12.

PS1
Area 51 (disc & manual)
Bubble Bobble (disc & manual)
Crash Bandicoot (disc & manual)
Croc (disc & manual)
Need for Speed High Stakes (disc & manual)
Tekken (disc & manual)
FF IX Disc 3 & manual turned out to be crammed inside the Final Fantasy Adventure box.
Konami Justifier light gun (with manual)

GBA
Final Fantasy Adventure (box, manual, map, and other extras, but no game)
**I have since ordered the game itself from ebay. So this will soon be CIB. :)

Funny story. The stuff was actually part of a much bigger lot which included a ps2 (fat) and a ps1. A bunch of sports titles, several demo discs, a ps1 steering wheel, and some controllers. All the hookups were missing.

For the hell of it I offered her $20 for all of it.

She countered with $30.

I countered with $25.

She refused to budge from 30.

I told her that was more than I wanted to spend so I'd whittle the lot down and make a new offer. It was at this point I inspected the systems and games in detail. The box was a mess of mismatched hookups and cases without games and games without cases. Tons of demo games and the consoles were filthy enough that I questioned them being viable as backup units.

So I whittled the lot down to everything I though was actually of value to me and offered her $10.

She countered with $12.

And I said "alright".

Funny thing is. All I really wanted was the Justifier. Everything else is just gravy.

As I continued home figuring I'd done the best I could do... I found a mother load of game cube and game boy advance stuff.

Here's what I walked away with for $20

GBA Accessories
Charger
rechargeable battery pack
light and protective flip cover
game link cable
car adapter

GBA Games
NBA Jam 2002 (with manual and case)
Ghostbusters
Lego Bionicle (with manual and case) for my son
Magical Quest Staring Mickey Mouse (with manual and case) for my wife
Donald Duck (with manual and case) for my wife

Game Cube Accessories
Nintendo Wavebird Wireless controller (with fresh batteries and the receiver)

When I got home my wife informed me my eBay purchase arrived it was:

Super Mario USA (nes)

We went out to eat and on the way home I stopped by Fry's, picked up some crimped cables and successfully completed a solderless AV mod on the Turbo Grafx 16!

Not a bad week at all and I still have stuff in the mail that should arrive next week! :)

I think theflea would be proud!

Fantastic finds as usual flea. I've been looking for super off road (nes 4 player version) forever.

I added the 2 player SNES version to my collection last week. It has more tracks than the nes version and the graphics are more like the arcade. But I like the music, sound, and 4 player action of the nes version better.

Would've had a lot more to show today if I chose trade in value at the game shop, but I needed cash more since I spent all my cash on a new arcade stick, but I did manage to get two cool little things there.  The big one is a fabric Skyward Sword map, looks super cool, and I grabbed a Zangief figure for real cheap because I'm getting into Street Fighter again lol THE ZANGIEF HYPE IS REAL!

I bought a copy or Kartia: The Word of Fate for PS1 today. At $30 it wasn't a deal or anything, but it's an Atlus RPG and in really great condition. PS1 games are a rare sight where I live, and great condition ones are even more scarce. Can't wait to try this, I should make time for it this week! And I also got Banjo Kazooie: Grunty's Revenge on the GBA, been looking for it for a while  :)

I *love* Chaos Legion - it's a very misunderstood game IMO.  People compared it to Devil May Cry, but it doesn't have much in common with it beyond some aesthetics.

Y'know, isn't it funny how we'll see $30 as a really good deal on a newly released game that's readily available pretty much everywhere but $30 as expensive for an older game that's difficult to find?  Just something I think about from time to time.  :)

I have not picked up this many games in a while!
Some of these I picked up at my local game store, but most of the others I bought on my trip to see my grandparents.  My grandpa likes to go to all the thrift stores and pawn shops so I ride along with him.  There is also a play and trade where I picked up a lot of the games.
2600:
Checkers
Slot Racers
Fire Fighter
Star Voyager
Night Driver
Congo Bongo

My grandpa had also found a late 90s webpage builder sealed at a thrift shop that he gave me when we visited ha.  My HTML/CSS knowledge is more early 2000s quality level  :), but I love weird things like that.  Most of the games were commons, but they filled in some gaps in my collection and Mega Man Legends is my best find in quite a while.  Also the game store near me is FINALLY lowering prices on 2600 games.  I asked about a year ago and I was the only person buying any Atari stuff from them, and most of the time I passed on it as I did not want to pay $8 for a common game.  They marked most of them down to $1-$5 now so I pick up a few commons when I stop by.

I *love* Chaos Legion - it's a very misunderstood game IMO.  People compared it to Devil May Cry, but it doesn't have much in common with it beyond some aesthetics.

Ya I remember enjoying a demo of it quite a bit. I read the back of the box, and they even compared it to Devil May Cry on the blurbs...

Isn't it a great feeling when you stumble upon a deal on something you've been wanting for a long time? :)

Definitely! I actually saw another copy of Banjo-Kazooie in the wild a few months back, but I was game hunting with a friend and she wanted it too, and I already had bought a lot of games that day, so I let her get it. Glad I did, since yesterday I traded it for a game I paid $2 for  ;D

I've definitely been taking full advantage of a lot of Wii/360/PS3 games dropping in price, but I still don't think it is prime time to collect for these consoles yet. I think in about 3-years when the 8th gen is in full swing and each console has grown into its own, prices on 7th gen games will plummet. We'll enjoy the super low prices that GC, PS2, and XBOX games were at a couple of years ago. Can't wait until then :)

I think it's a matter of price & availability balancing out.  Depending on your area that may not be a problem...but there are already some PS3 games that I want that I can't find around here (and they are far more expensive online than they would be if I could find them at a Gamestop).  That goes double for Wii.  Plus, I've been getting quite a few Wii & some PS3 games lately for $5 or less.  Hard to argue waiting with those kinds of prices.

That said, some of the "bigger" titles that are holding their value I'm definitely waiting on, such as most first-party Nintendo games I don't have.

Don't forget, Best Buy is doing a deal on 3DS games, where you can buy a few first party titles where they are buy one get one free, White Wii U Pro controllers are down to 30 bucks, and if you buy one of the Wiimotes that are Mario branded, they get a 10 dollar gift card with them.  Got myself a Wii U Pro Controller as at the last hangout, we had issues figuring out the wiimotes to play Tekken Tag Tournament 2.  Worked fine with Mario Kart 8 though.  Not sure what happened with that.

Some of these I picked up at my local game store, but most of the others I bought on my trip to see my grandparents.  My grandpa likes to go to all the thrift stores and pawn shops so I ride along with him.  There is also a play and trade where I picked up a lot of the games.

Slot Racers
Fire Fighter
Star Voyager
Night Driver
Congo Bongo

Ms. Pac-Man: Maze Madness

Major League Baseball Featuring Ken Griffey Jr.

I haven't picked up much lately - was raining all day this past Sat. so I didn't even attempt any garage sales.  I did grab a $6 new copy of AC4: Black Flag for the PS4 yesterday at Target.

I'm going to be going to the "World's Longest Yard Sale" week-after-next - anyone else on the east coast going to be hitting part of that?

Goes from Michigan to Alabama - here's the website w/ more info.  A couple of coworkers of mine have went in years past and they say the route is absolutely packed with sales - one told me that in some areas it will take you an hour to travel a mile.  Really looking forward to it, hoping I can pull in a Flea-level haul that weekend.  :D

Done!  It's a doozy of an arcade stick.  I have never had one before, though of course I've played on actual arcade cabinets before.  It's pretty large, has some nice weight to it, and seems to work pretty nice.  Gonna take a lot of practice to get use to the button spread compared to the controller and some of the quicker movements, but in training for Super Street Fighter, I was able to more reliably get certain moves off.  A Hadouken or Shoryuken has never been as easy lol

That last one isn't an actual Pac-Man ghost, it's a lamp. ;) Very cool, you can change it to about 15 different colors, set it to flash, strobe, or my favorite a gradual fade from one color to another.  It also has a remote where you can control all of that as well as dim it, change the flash/strobe/color change speed & of course turn it off & on.  Great addition to the game room.  :)

Everything I saw about it said it was a fairly decent port and I also hear the Saturn light gun is pretty damn good too. I was never a huge arcade kid, but there are a few games I remember playing back at an ice rink here that we went to fairly often back when my dad played hockey. Area 51, NFL Blitz, Tekken 2, Hydro Thunder and one of the King of Fighters games were the ones I remember most.

It's a solid rails shooter. I remember it being in the arcade at the college I used to go to. I'd play that and Attack From Mars Pinball. :)

Didn't find much today despite going to my usual three shops, but I did find a complete copy of Star Wars: Empire at War on PC.  Normally I don't collect PC unless it's something I really want, like a game I use to play or perhaps it'll be a big box game with cool art, but it was only a buck and it's the kind of game where it's just at that point where I can still play it if I want to lol

Funny you should say that because these were mixed in with about 10 other PS1 games behind the glass case, half of which were sports games for the same price. I was freaking out when I saw those two sitting next to Formula 1 2000 and NHL 1999 lol.

Bobster and I have a pretty good find this morning. We only found stuff at 1 community yard sale but it was definitely worth the trip.

House 1:
Top Gear
Kirby's Avalanche
Mario Paint
Super Mario World
SNES controller
SNES mouse
Which in total only cost us $2.

House 2:
Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Darkness -$5
Pokemon Diamond -$5
Pokemon Platinum -$5
Pokemon Ranger -$5
Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga -$3
Pokemon Leaf Green -$3
Pokemon Emerald -$3

House 3:
Mario Party 4
Super Mario Sunshine
The Sims
Day of Reckoning
Super Monkey Ball 2
The Incredibles
The gamecube plus 2 controllers and a memory card
Which in total only cost us $20.

So for everything we got today we only spent $51!

My recent pick ups.
  • Galaxy Force II and Shining Force for Genesis
WCW vs. The World for PS1
    Clay Fighter 63 1/3 for N64
Street Fighter III Double Impact for Dreamcast
(https://scontent-b-sea.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-xpf1/v/l/t1.0-9/q82/s720x720/10485921_10201395273122779_6981716377943915005_n.jpg?oh=0a5db328c3a261d01082b79cdde28b18&oe=54440E22)

Nice finds. That WCW vs. The World sucks balls. My friend bought back when it was new. We were huge wrestling fans back then and were tickled to get a sweet WCW game. It was pretty bad. The Giant / Paul White has this massive Afro. It's funny and awful at the same time.

Now that Street Fighter III, it's one of the last Dreamcast games I'm looking for.

I have to go out of town tomorrow & there's a TRU where I'm going, so I plan to stop by there to see if they have anything different (would love to find a Wonderful 101, but I know that's a long shot) but after that I think this sale is over for me.  :)  It's been a good one tho!

Nice weekend pickups folks!

My yardsaling was something of a bust. :(

I woke up late so I didn't head out until 10:30am.

Took the boy (11 years old) with me. He managed to snag a Razor Kick Scooter for $4 (he haggled the guy down from $5).

My pickups were less impressive:

Doom II PC cib - $1
Asteroids for Atari 8-bit computer - $1
Spyro Enter the Dragonfly $1
2 Wii nunchucks - $1
The Sims: Generations Expansion - 75 cents

Passed on a $100 Atari 2600 with 5 games and a $75 Playstation 1 with 5 crappy games (Revolution X was the best game in the bunch that's how bad the others were.)

Stopped by Goodwill and rolled my eyes at $7 copies of Combat for the Atari 2600.

Not really a great day for me as far as thrift shopping, but I did take advantage of the Best Buy sale and Buy 2 get 1 free at Gamestop:

What b2g1?   ???

Best Buy had a Buy 2 get 1 Free that ended on the 26th for select 3DS Titles.  The games were Pokemon X and Y, Zelda, a Kirby game and Tomadatchi Life.  I checked 3 Best Buys and almost all were out of most of those games except for the Pokemon games so I grabbed them.  You didnt know about the sale?

Nono, you're talking about the b1g1 at Best Buy, I knew about that.  I'm talking about the b2g1 you mentioned at Gamestop.  I know they've been printing out b2g1 coupons on receipts, but those aren't good until next week - is there another GS sale running I don't know about?

My recent pick ups.
  • Galaxy Force II and Shining Force for Genesis
WCW vs. The World for PS1
    Clay Fighter 63 1/3 for N64
Street Fighter III Double Impact for Dreamcast
(https://scontent-b-sea.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-xpf1/v/l/t1.0-9/q82/s720x720/10485921_10201395273122779_6981716377943915005_n.jpg?oh=0a5db328c3a261d01082b79cdde28b18&oe=54440E22)

Nice finds. That WCW vs. The World sucks balls. My friend bought back when it was new. We were huge wrestling fans back then and were tickled to get a sweet WCW game. It was pretty bad. The Giant / Paul White has this massive Afro. It's funny and awful at the same time.

Now that Street Fighter III, it's one of the last Dreamcast games I'm looking for.
Yeah, WCW vs. is not that great of a game. At least it was $6.
I used to have SFIII 3rd Strike for DC but foolishly traded it in because I got the XBox(used to anyway) and PS2 versions. Oh well, it was recently re-released for XBox 360 and PS3 not to long ago.
Shining Force is another one I foolishly traded as well in the past. Had to bite the bullet for that copy...but I'm glad to have it once again.

And no mention of Galaxy Force II? Criminally underrated game. It's part of that Space Harrier-clone genre, whatever the heck it's called. But it's better than Space Harrier, IMO. It has a more sci-fi theme to it all, and as a result the levels and enemies are a lot more interesting. And it has a cool soundtrack.

The knife is in his right hand tho (his right, not our right). It's kinda hard to see without looking for it.

Played it for the first time after bringing it home and yeah it's fun. Reminds me more of After Burner but in space.
Trying to beef up my Genesis collection right now.

As for CF 631/3, Now I have the CF trilogy complete. Unless I try to get CF:Sculptors cut, but that one is really expensive!

Ya he's holding the knife in his right hand. Admittedly, it's a bad picture too. My phone's camera has been being a piece of shit lately.

So I had a few pickups while I was out of town this past weekend.  Stopped at a Gamestop that had several used Wii/PS3 games I had been looking for according to the online inventory checker.  Problem was almost every one of them was either disk only or in really bad shape (they had a Cross Edge that had a *severely* water damaged insert :( ).  So I only picked up Muramasa & Bit.Trip Complete for the Wii.  When I got to the register they informed me of the b2g1 on Wii & DS games under $20 (so I guess that was a store-wide sale) so I grabbed Solatorobo (sp?) for the DS, cart only.

Then stopped at another TRU near our hotel and grabbed Epic Mickey 2 for $4.50 (Wii U), Little Deviants for $3 (Vita) and a copy of Rocksmith for the PS3 for $9 which I've already flipped on ebay for $29.  ;)  Also picked up a spare Vita power adapter for $2 and a spare Wii U controller charging cradle for $1.80, along with 2 more of the Skylanders $0.75 styluses (styli?).  Dunno how many different ones the made, but I now have Spyro, Gill Grunt & Chop Chop.  If anyone has any different ones at their TRU I'd be glad to pay cost + shipping, or possibly work out a trade, to try to finish the set.  :)

EDIT:  Oh, also picked up a used but pristine-like-new copy of de Blob at TRU for $8, a new copy of Saints Row 4 (PS3) from Best Buy also for $8 and I grabbed The Last of Us Remastered yesterday and ended up out $31 tax & all on that one.  Not bad!  :D

Red Faction: Origins (a SyFy flick so you know it's quality) - $2
Mortal Kombat 3 (DOS) - 50 cents
BRUCE WILLIS STARS IN: Apocalypse (PS1) - $2, haggled down from $3.  Hey, beats having to trade for it.

Very cool!

You better slab that in a CGC case! I know it sounds silly, since Mark isn't a big celebrity, but that's exactly why that will probably be worth money in a decade or so.

When the 2000s nostalgia wave hits, it will be those harder to find autographs that become worth money. People like Stan Lee and Scwartzenneger may be bigger stars, but they sign autographs so often that they're not rare or valuable at all.
