Taco Bell and Sony are running another annual promotion. This time, purchasers of the Big Box meal receive a code for a chance to win a Gold PS4, one given away every ten minutes. It appears to be limited to 6,000 units according to the PlayStation Blog.
So my question is, is anyone besides me going to risk explosive intestinal upheaval for a chance to win one of these babies?
-
link? :D

link? :D
LOL...I'm at work and can't look crap up. But they are advertising it on their store signs and the PlayStation Blog has the story online. I'm braving excruciating stomach pains, eating Taco Hell crap to try and win one. It's a long shot for sure....but I couldn't live with myself if I didn't try. :P

That set up looks pretty legit.

Looks super cool but I think just entering the breezeway into the restaurant would completely destroy my (already terrible) digestive system.
-
When I saw the PS4, I got excited. Then I saw the food, and I started to feel queasy. Yeah...I'll let others take their chances with this one. Taco Bell? More like Taco Hell.

yay cardboard!! but at least you can get the ghost pepper stuff on your other items. love me some ghost pepper (Bhut Jolokia). I grow them and Trinidad Scorpians but my ghosts died this year :(

I'm currently suffering the ill-effects of the dreaded Quesarito big box. Been to the porcelain throne more than a few times since consuming that heinous concoction last night. :-[

Well, the ad says, No Purchase Necessary ;D

here's just saying good luck to everybody and I hope at least 1 gets won by this community.

I'm going for it. I read the official rules, and I can mail in a postcard with my info once per day for 28 days max. I have a bunch of stamps laying around (who mails stuff these days???) so I'm going to fill out some cards and start mailing. Heck, I may get my wife in on the act as well!
-
I already have a ps4, and don't care for the look, but if i won, I would give the ps4 to my best friend. Under the condition he could never sell it or give it away. (You met him Maximo and pugmire)
-
I don't like Mexican(ish) food to begin with... as nice as that gold system looks, I'm sitting this one out. Maybe I'll go read what hoops you have to jump through to enter sans purchase...
-
It's never been so tempted to jeopardize my health for something like this before!

The colon is evil, it must be punished.

That's what I call it too, I eat it all the time because it's close to my school but I always feel like hell after eating it and regret doing so.

3 days in a row now ... no win yet.

I think I'm gonna dive back in tonight. We've been entering the codes through both my cell and my wife's. Four so far with no luck. I've given my digestive system a couple of days reprieve. I'm going for the gold again!
-
This should give me a reason to finally check out Taco Bell near my house and school.

Haha, I still haven't gone, and i am a fatty.... gotta be in the right mood to go eat taco bell and make yourself sick haha
-
Punished my innards last night. Have another code to enter today.
-
I've entered eight codes so far, none winners. Did this by forcing my family along with myself to each eat one of those boxes and entering two codes per day, one on my phone and the other on my wife's phone.
I have now filled out 40 postcards to mail in (I have plenty of extra stamps laying around), twenty for my wife and twenty for me. I will probably suffer the Taco Hell a couple more times before the contest ends, so I believe I will have around 60 entries before it ends.
I'm not expecting to win in any way whatsoever, but man....it would be really nice after sacrificing my colon's structural integrity to the dreaded Quesarito or whatever the hell that thing is called! :-\

Not tacos but close enough.
-
12 codes entered so far and I have two more for tomorrow. I've also mailed in six postcards so far, so I expect to start receiving codes to my email in the next few days. Don't know how many more of those quesoritto or whatever the hell they're called that I'll be able to choke down.

Ive entered probably 12 or so codes myself. Got 2 more to enter for the next 2 days.

Not trying to be an ass but for how much you've spent on Taco Bell, you could probably have another PS4 soon...

Well, I already had the stamps laying around collecting dust, so no loss there. I've been feeding the family and taking leftover tacos for lunch the next day. I've spent a little over $100 at Taco Bell thus far including the four boxes I picked up this evening. So while tacos aren't my first choice for food, I would have had to spend a similar amount for something else anyway. The PS4 bundle is worth around $500, so I haven't really invested that much.
And while the food isn't my first choice for dinner...that Sangrita Dew is mighty tasty!
-
Well, I think I have purchased my last Quesarito boxes. The thought of eating another one of those vile concoctions makes my stomach churn. Entered two codes last night, the other two this morning. Nada.
I will continue to mail in the postcards that I have already stamped (two per day for me & my wife), but that will be about it.
An interesting anecdote: While getting my PlayStation tattoo, the tattoo artist (who is a gamer) and I were discussing various things. I told him eating the Quesarito was more painful than the tat. We both got a good laugh out of it. :P
-
You have a PlayStation tattoo? That's awesome. I'd love to see pics of that. I think game related tattoos are great.

Yep. Just got it two days ago (me and Sorera were talking about it in the October 2014 recently purchased thread). As soon as it heals up a bit more and I get it touched up, I'll post the pics. I did mine all in black. There are a few spots where its not as dark on the "P" which I figured would happen when they are darkening a large area like that.
-
I have my Final fantasy VII tattoo. Im already planning on getting a DQ slime tattoo and some sort of actual PS tattoo.

Lol Sangrita Dew is very good. I'm gunning for you to get that PS4
-
the method I was using is a rather cheap one and I always feel sorry for the people who take my order. what I do Is go through the drive through and ask a whole bunch of things to add then remove thing and change my mind allot. so I go and pay for my meal then go inside after taking a bite out of it and tell them they got the order wrong they will make it all again from scratch and you will get a second box with a code. Its cheap but It works.

Thanks for the support! I will get two (maybe more if I can convince my friends & family to use their email addresses!) more codes for free that you can fill out a form online to receive. You can only do that once per person for the duration of the drawing and only on 10/22 between 12AM and 12PM. I'm giving it my best.
....and man...they need to bring Sangrita Dew in a can back! :'(

I do not approve of this, as a worker in the food industry. The workers are the only getting hurt because even if they know they took the right order but was told else wise by the customer because "They're always right" (bullshit). I'm sure the workers are somehow reprimanded for the "wrong orders". I have people complain about our food because we "missed" something. We tell them we will redo it if they bring it and show us what's wrong, but 90% of them never show up or call back because they're trying to get addition food for free but failed. I'm not saying you are trying to get free food but this is not acceptable.

I know its bad on my part and you are correct I am not trying to get free food out of it and do in fact throw the original away. I only do this to this particular taco bell (only one in the town I live in) because of the accumulation of all the previous experiences I have had with them. things like over charging, legitimately giving the wrong order, outbreaks of food poisoning because of how long they keep the food, and even one drive through crack head employee that would take your money and give out the wrong change on purpose (pay with a 50 he says you paid with a 20 kind of thing) and his manager would back him up even though the prick pocketed the real money. (I eventually got that guy fired)
So basically the worst kind of fast food workers work there.
And I guess I did forget to mention that the order legitimately IS/WAS incorrect when I take it in which is all the time. I only go to the one in my town for instances like this where I want something and don't feel like driving 30-40 minutes to the next town.
-
I know this is a tangent from the main topic, but I gotta say that I get kinda PO'ed when I see fast food workers on TV protesting that they don't make a high enough wage and wanting $15 an hour.
I work in a maximum security prison armed only with a can of pepper spray. Staff are outnumbered a minimum of 30:1 offender/staff. I am expected to protect my fellow staff, the offenders and the public. I make under $14 an hour and I've been doing this going on NINETEEN YEARS.
On the other hand, fast food workers consistently F*CK UP MY ORDER even if it's a simple #4 on the McD's menu that only takes one button press to do. No customizing. No substitutes. Nothing. And they want $15 an hour to f*ck up my order?
ADDENDUM: I am in no way disparaging every person working in the food industry as my mom is retired from the food industry. I'm sure that some people actually care about their job and do it to the best of their ability. I wouldn't want to be accused of calling all black people gang-bangers again. ::)

I understand where they are coming from too but also feel that if they want a living wage you should at least work 40 hours a week. It may be different in many places but one of my first jobs was mcD's and throughout our store the only people who worked full time were managers and one other person (nice guy but suffered brain damage playing football so he has very limited options) the rest of us did not want to work full time (mostly school related, a few so they could take advantage of the government). working part time I definitely did not deserve anything above min wage and would still feel that way if I still worked there. but the full time people definitely deserved more than they were making but definitely not what im making now or what your making gf.
I personally feel like all minimum wage jobs should be required to pay 2 different wages to their employees actual minimum wage to those that work part time and a living wage (be able to rent an apartment by your self and have enough for actual necessities, food, water, power, heat) for where you live for full time.

I can agree with that. When I was a teen, jobs like McDonald's were part-time for kids who were paying for their car insurance, weekend money, etc. It wasn't to earn a living unless you moved up in the company as you said to a managerial position.
It's just particularly irksome to me because this new generation of teens coming up (sorry for generalizing, but just apply it as needed) feel entitled to things they haven't earned. They also just plain don't give two $hits. Half the time, I think they either just screw up your order for spite or just plain laziness. When I was a teen, it didn't matter that you were working for minimum wage ($4.25 in my day), you were just happy to have a part-time job so you had some spending money and the majority did their job properly.
-
Wait a tic, you're telling me you work for less than 14 dollars per hour and people in the fast food jobs are making more than that? I can't even...
You know what? No. It's Friday. I'm in a good mood and I don't feel like losing this buzz.
-

I did some quick math. We get paid twice a month, regardless of how many hours it actually is (due to there being 52 weeks in a year, not because of mandatory overtime) and our paycheck is always the same each time. So we get paid 24 times per year where most people paid every two weeks receive 26 checks per year. I multiplied my check by 24, divided by 52 (weeks in a year) and divided again by 40 (hours in a work week). That comes out to roughly $14.97 per hour. So...I make a bit more than I thought but not by much.
In addition, I would like to add that on a daily basis as a Corrections Officer I may be exposed to:
- Assault with a homemade prison weapon aka shank
Have feces, urine or the combination of the two known affectionately as the "vile brew" thrown onto me
Assault with deadly force from offenders who spend their entire day working out on weightlifting equipment
Be removed from my job/post because all an offender has to do is accuse me of calling him a bad name or exposing myself (no, really)
Harassed by my supervisors because they are bored
Held over for "mandatory overtime" by being told while I am literally walking out the front door of the institution.
And so much other crap I couldn't even begin to know where to start.... :'(
-
That sounds awful. I would say try looking for new employment, but that's one of those "easier said than done" type of things.
-

Options are limited here. You have a lot of restaurants...and a lot of prisons. You also have factory work, but you are going to bust your butt for $12-$15 an hour with crappy benefits and no job security. In order to have any decent job, I would have to travel to the St. Louis area which is about 60 miles from where I live just to get to the city limits.
I've also been working for the DOC (department of corruptions...err...corrections) for going on 19 years now. There are positives to my particular situation now. I work in an area where I have a low possibility of getting the vile brew tossed at me and I have weekends off. I'm also to the point where I get 168 paid vacation hours per year, 120 paid sick hours per year and there are about 12-13 holidays a year where I earn comp time. Basically with comp time, I get paid my normal wage and for each holiday, I receive 8 hours of comp time. After you have accumulated 20 or more hours, you can fill out a form to request the comp time be paid. I am also nearly vested and only have to work another 10 years (give or take a few months) to receive full retirement benefits.
So it's not completely horrid, but the mental stress you deal with on a daily basis knowing what you are in the middle of as well as the constant backstabbing by other staff either because they are higher rank than you or because they are bucking for a promotion and don't care who they screw over to try and get it.
-
Your job sucks but it sounds like your benefits are good I would love to be able to get basically 2 months of vacation.. your vacation time is 21 days/5 work days (hopefully) a week is 4 weeks and a day your 120 sick hours is 15 days/5 work days a week is 3 weeks. and 12-13 holidays? granted I have only been with my company 2 years I get 10 days vacation (wont get any more till ive worked here 10 years) 0 sick days (any sick days Is automatically taken from your vacation) and only 7 holidays (set in stone) and 1 floating holiday (for use for religious holidays like Christmas.. yeah that's right I don't even get Christmas off) my companys retirement plan is crap but the pay is good $18 an hour but with 0 opportunity for advancement in my company unless I go back to school for business. Im an engineer btw

The time you can accumulate off is pretty decent. But from what I had when I started working in the DOC till now? It just keeps getting worse. Healthcare including dental and vision went from basically no monthly contribution to paying out the wazoo. Copays have shot up and they stopped matching a percentage of your 401K. People hired after 2005 now fall under a new "85 and out" plan for retirement and are not vested in a retirement at all until they have been an active employee for 10 years, whereas I fall under 5 five years. Pay raises are non-existent to 1% for the last five years and we are the lowest paid corrections employees in the country, cost of living be damned.
As for the 80 and 85 and out plans, this is how that works. When your age and years of service combined equal 80 (or 85 for those hired after 2005), you are eligible to retire with full benefits. So if you look at my case, I'm now 41 years old with 19 active years of service/working. That equals 60. For each year that goes by, I am a year older and have a year more service time in. So in 10 years, I will reach the 80. At the present, they have a program called back-drop where you can work past your retirement date and collect a lump-sum payment for up to five years worth of backdrop max. So say I continue to work here until I am 56, I will have completed five years of backdrop. I will be paid normally, and then collect a lump sum payment at the end when I actually retire.
I doubt I will actually retire at 51 or 56, because that's still pretty young and what am I going to do? Be a door greeter at Walmart? I will probably keep working at least a few years past that as I don't plan on social security being around by the time I get to that age where I can draw. I've always had a dream of opening my own used games store and a good buddy of mine has been trying to talk me into it for a while now. Who knows what the future holds.

Dammnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn. Nice job!

Sunday night I hope to get a screenshot of the text and the website redirect up (I currently only have my phone so I cannot right now) and I would like to say that the wait is going to absolutely kill me!! The final screen I got says "please allow for 6 weeks after the end of the contest for delivery" That means I will most likely get it right around Christmas! Since I already own a ps4 I hope this one comes sealed in a special box (I've never won anything before in my life!) and arrives safely! If it is sealed then I definitely will not be opening it.

Im ridiculously jealous. :)

I just received an e-mail with tracking numbers for my gold ps4. It will be here by Monday according to the e-mail which means I will get it on Thanksgiving. (sent it to my parents house as I do not trust the people in my apartment not to take it)

You are a lucky man my friend. I have seen the pics of them on eBay where people are already listing them after they arrived. Comes in a nice black box with a taco bell info/pamphlet/thingie stuck to the front. It also has a gold card in the box that is numbered. Pretty sweet. I'm envious. :'(

If its on the inside I will not know which number I received but my guess is I got around #4300 because I won the 24th of October at 12:33 which was a month after the start of the contest. 10 minute = 6 prizes an hour: 24 hours a day: it started September 24th = 30 days from start till I won: 6x24x30=4320

I think the numbers in each box are completely random. They did the same thing with the 20th Anniversary PS4. They didn't send them out in sequential order.

what do you all think would it be worth getting it graded?

It wouldn't be worth not having a free PS4. :o

Honestly, I never even entertain the thought of getting something graded. I have a swank 20th Anniversary PS4. I opened it up and inspected it. Actually, once I opened it I stared in awe and marveled at it's beauty. ;) Then I snapped a few pics and carefully closed it back up. It's stored in my closet, safe from the elements, the kids, my wife and the pets.
I can tell you by watching the auctions on eBay, people are bidding them up and they end over a grand each.
-
What i dont get, almost every week you see a new PS4 limited edition design. How can you grade that?
-
What i dont get, almost every week you see a new PS4 limited edition design. How can you grade that?
While the PS4 editions such as the Destiny Taken King, Black Ops III and Star Wars are limited in the sense that there will only be a certain number made, the Taco Bell Gold edition is very limited. I believe 10,000 total? It's the same for the 20th Anniversary PS4 which was limited to 12,300 worldwide.
The Taco Bell gold version is the second rarest US version because all 10,000 were only available in the US. The 20th Anniversary Edition was divided up between the three main territories (US, Europe, Japan). I don't know the split between the three, but if they were divided evenly you are looking at 4,100 available for sale in the US. That is why the Gold edition is fetching over $1,000 at auction and the 20th Anniversary has sold as high as $10,000, but has settled to a more realistic $1,200 to $1,500.

It's the same for the 20th Anniversary PS4 which was limited to 12,300 worldwide.

lol yeah all the diarrhea that came with it should be worth something.
I also still have the box that had the code that won me it. I will keep that box until I part ways with the ps4 if ever.

That's cool. Just fold it up and put it inside the box. And yes, you deserve it after choking down those satanic quesarito thingamajigs. Lord knows I should get one for all of them my family (forced) and I suffered through. Alas, luck was not on my side this day.

No I did not and I will not either, for all I know I got #1. I have no need to open It as if I open it I will use it to play on and I already have my ps4 hooked up and it is a hassle for me to set up electronic devices anyway. unless the card is somewhere on the outside what I did not see.
whats worse about it is I haven't even posted a pic of it yet. It has a dimple in it from something that hit it during shipping... thankfully whatever hit it did not go through the actual ps4 box.
