Hardware and Tech / Re: Old 70's console issues.
« on: March 06, 2013, 09:58:58 am »
Found a Video on you tube that showed me how to fix it. I tried it and bingo. It works great now.
just needed an adjustment on the RF box inside the console.

If anyone buys this and has issues here's the video to fix it. He says it can work on other classic Pong consoles too.

Hardware and Tech / Old 70's console issues.
« on: March 06, 2013, 06:52:49 am »
I just bought a Coleco Telstar Arcade, it was in its box in really good shape. It was only missing the original AC Adapter (but an old atari 2600 one seems to work) I hooked it up to several televisions of all kinds. (even an old B&W) and all I get is an black static screen.

It does react when i switch it on, but no game on screen. I'm wondering if the atari adapter is the problem? or maybe the game cart is not reading. (I did clean all the pins) I bought a 2nd cart off ebay and if it's the cart I should work with a different cart. (I hope) Or maybe its something inside.
If anyone has any ideas what it could be, please let me know. thanks.

Here's the system if you don't know what it is.

General / Re: Collection audit
« on: March 04, 2013, 03:50:25 am »
The biggest errors i find from peoples collections is multiple copies of the same game, ya maybe they have multiple copies, but i think most are from double clicking from lag. so you may not have over 1000 games like you thought. lol
I always list my multiple copies (unless its a variation) in the sell/trade list.

Classic Video Games / Here's a Fun Game to Play, What Would You Pick?
« on: March 02, 2013, 04:45:54 am »
Let say a collector was giving away his entire collection, and he owned one of every system, game and accessory. And he was giving out three items to everyone in the forum who posted once a day from his collection. what would you pick out from his collection.

Here are the rules.
 - You can list 3 items only once a day. You can't pick another 3 items til after midnight PST.

 - You can't repeat any item someone else listed, if someone picks it the item would be gone.

 - You can pick the same item ONLY if there's variations, Like 3 screw NES cart and a 5 screw.
or regular edition and limited edition. If someone lists say zelda1 and nothing else you can
assume its the standard version (the gold one) then you can list zelda1 (grey cart)
Also You can only pick from NA, EU and JP versions. We'll assume everything is NA unless listed.

 - You can't pick the same item by condition, We'll assume it's all NIB.

 - Only list Systems, Accessories and games. No toys, promo merchandise, swag stuff etc.
Also Lets keep it within the gaming consoles, No Arcades cabinets or PC/Mac stuff.
Handhelds okay, computer game consoles okay, (eg. Atari 400 and TI99) You can list Arcade
Console Conversions and their games. (eg. MVS & Atomiswave) but they can be only listed
once. (MVS carts & systems can have a lot of versions) Also lets not list DLC stuff lol

 - No prototypes, or special versions not given to the public in some way. No display stuff ether.
It had to be sold or given away as a promo to a lot of people, like mail-away or a contest where
at least 100 people won. So no NWC90's it's too rare for even this collector to own it. lol
There are a few extremely rare items that only a few are known to exist, but it was sold to the
public it just failed so bad that not many exist today, these can be listed.  eg. See my 1st pick.

 - It can be from any generation. So if you would pick a Wii U black, list it lol

 - You can pick homebrew or reproduction games. but these can be only listed once, no variations.
These can have to many variations to keep track off. Now you can pick NWC90 (reproduction) lol

 - Also don't edit your picks once someone else posts after you. Lets not change our minds
because you thought of a better choice later. If it's unpicked the next day then list it.

 - And last just have fun with this, I'm not going to be too nit-picky and you shouldn't be ether.
And hey maybe someone playing with this game see's your picks and will PM you about a
    sell/trade.

I'll try and keep and updated list of all that's picked out at least once per page. and you can too if you like. I'm going to at least list my picks til the end of March. So for me the game may end there.

I mainly want to see what people would pick out in this scenario. Are they picking rare games? Valuable games? or games they always wanted to play/own but maybe can't find.
Again have fun with this, Get thinking what you always wanted in your collection.  :)

Off Topic / Re: Overpraised Movies
« on: March 02, 2013, 03:36:36 am »
The movies I think are way to overpraised are these CGI heavy movies that make billions of dollars.
These films I like to call CGI Porn.

Transformers (especially 2 & 3)
X-Men Last Stand
Avatar
Spider-Man 1 & 3
Battleship
Armageddon
Independence Day
Star Wars Episode's 1-3
Total Recall (remake)
Fast and Furious movies
GI Joe
Indiana Jones and the Crystal Skull
Clash of the Titans (1 & 2)
Twilight movies

to name a few... I know people who LOVE these movies and defend these as great films. Sure some can be watched if you leave your brain at the door and think of them as your watching a silly cartoon and they are not supposed to make sense.

Then there's the films that people love to death and I could never get into these films, always thought they where overrated movies. But most people include these as a great classic movie.

The Lost Boys
Top Gun
Pretty Woman
Dirty Dancing

I'm sure I could go on, oh and The Back to the Future Films are one of the best fun films ever made. While yes there's a few flaws in it's sequels but I can watch these over and over and still love them. Are they "family friendly" for the most part yes. But does a movie have to be not family friendly to be good? It's story is so well thought out especially the first one, the sequels you can punch a few holes into if you wanna get nit-picky. It's the characters are what really sell these movies.
And speaking of time travel, I'll watch Back to the Future 1-3 any day over that overrated Looper.

Nuff said.

Here's my March 2013 pickups. I'll update this post as I pick up new goodies. I hope that winter ends and by the end of this month I can start hitting the garage sales again.
