General / Re: February 2016 Pick Up's and Finds.
« on: February 27, 2016, 05:20:13 pm »
Well, I also had an awesome thrift store find, but not that awesome...

If anyone is wondering, it's the last of the Papyrus/Sierra NASCAR games, which were more realistic than their EA counterparts and it's very popular with modders because of this. I'm not a big NASCAR fan, but I'll take a $65 game for $1 any day.

It's so interesting how expensive some of these old sports games are.  EA Sports MVP Baseball 2005 PC is another very expensive one due to it being the last game in the series and the modding community.  I actually downloaded a mod about a month ago that had new stadiums, rosters, uniforms, etc. all updated for the 2015 season.

Had all the signs of an impending burnout. Quit my job today. BOOM.

(I'm actually going to work for a while still, but just the decision and action of resigning made me feel SO much better already.)
(Oh wow that makes the whole situation look so simple)
(okay I'm done with parentheses)

Now I'm gonna celebrate by catching up on all these posts I haven't read since way too long!

Glad you are feeling better after making your decision.  That's definitely a good indicator that you made the right decision. Best of luck on finding a new, better job.  If all else fails you can fall back on all the money you rake in as a VGCollect admin  :P

Game Play
838 6th St
Clarkston, WA 99403

Small local game shop that sells everything from Atari to the newest releases.  They also sell tabletop game supplies and provide movie rentals.  Prices are about what you would expect from any retail game store.  Been stopping by here every once in a while since the year it opened and have had zero issues.

I'm not sure what the process is for changing usernames, but I will pass this thread onto Jason. :)

Site Feedback / Re: Submitting a new item
« on: February 22, 2016, 05:07:23 pm »
Why does it seem like recently vgcollect has had a lot of "newbie" members joining and pretty much trolling the forums?

I'm not taking these posts as trolls - I think they're legitimate questions for a new user, and it's good for the admins to know where people get confused and where to focus our efforts :)
That may be, but the questions are always worded poorly and said users are entirely too rude, you're right, trolling isn't the correct term.

It'd almost be nice if there were support tickets for users to ask questions to the mods (I suppose that isn't necessary if the users PM the mods).Better yet it'd be nice if there were a page with a list of every mod with a link to PM them so users could ask them questions easier. It seems like this could keep the forums from bloating with pointless posts.

We actually do have a staff listing.  Although with all of the stickied posts in the Database Discussion area it can be a bit hard to find.  I think I might actually move it to the site feedback section instead.

In general though I don't mind users posting here.  While it may bloat the forums, posting in the forums allows multiple admins to chime in on a topic and serves as a reference for future members who have similar issues.

Video Game Database Discussion / Re: Duplicate Listings 2016

I'm not sure why those games would be missing  :-\
When we merge items the users who own the item being deleted are transferred to the item that stays in the database.

Has foxy retired or are we just posting in different threads?

I do believe he retired.

Yup he retired late last year.

I will also agree with everybody on how nice the forum community is here.  While I lurk a bit more than I used to now, VGCollect is still the first place I go to when I open my web browser thanks to the great forum community.  Makes it pretty easy to moderate the forums :P

I logged in today and saw that I had new Notifications. While perusing them, I noticed a got an approved Edit for Strider Hiryu and a rejected Edit for Panorama Cotton...both for the Description Field.  Derp.  :P At this point I'm curious to know if there is a glitch in the Matrix somewhere that somehow gives me ownership over that information when I submit Edits for the other fields. I can't say I'm the biggest fan of getting dinged for the someone else not filling out the field correctly.  :o

I don't know why, but sometimes this happens with the description and box text fields.  My guess is if a user is scrolling on a page and accidentally scrolls or clicks in the description field box it automatically is marked as changed and submitted as an edit even if nothing is actually changed.

Some users also use the Alt-name field to explain edits they are making.   We are definitely ok with it and works fine as a temporary solution until an actual comment field is implemented.

Let's direct the thread back on topic.  This argument is unnecessary.

Look! I helped.

I really don't care who wins this one, I don't like the Broncos, and the Panthers knocked my team out of the playoffs this year.  I'm going to echo what Abe said though, I think Carolina is going to win it.

Classic Video Games / Re: The Anomaly of PAC-MAN
« on: February 04, 2016, 06:16:24 pm »
Hell yeah!  Pac & Pal is severely underrated.  My personal favorite game of the classic arcade series.

As for the arcade release of Pac-Man in the EU I have never actually thought about it before.  It would seem strange to me that it would take so long to be released there considering how popular it was, but I know little about EU games and even less about the arcade scene.  Even if it didn't make it over in arcade form until Pac-Mania I'd imagine there were some home ports or clones released before then.

@desocietas agreed I also miss that ha.  There was also something oddly charming about its minimalistic design.
