So what I've gathered is that it's fine going in the Box Text field as long as it's short, sweet, and to the point like the Steam descriptions. Normally I would submit all paragraphs before the 1-2 Players, HDD... text, along with the bullet points as long as they weren't at essay length.

What if there was a sub-field implemented for the Description field that allowed us to cite a source? I think it would work well if it was just a one-word source like "Sony" or "Wikipedia" or something to that degree, maybe even being part of a drop-down box that could have selections from acceptable sources. On the other hand, the Description field does already work well for noting little things. However, it is a fairly vague category after all, since it lumps together all sorts of things like trivia. For games that don't have any notable or fitting information for that field, putting that store description there seems fine, and thats where the source field would come into play.

Those are just my thoughts.

I love editing entries but there's some confusion I have with digital games. Recently I've submitted a large chunk of edits for PSN NA games, a lot being for official store descriptions that I pulled straight from the PS Store itself, which got rejected (because it's plagiarism). That's fair, but some entries I found had that exact official PS Store description in the box text section, which I tried to remove and replace in the description category but that got rejected as well. I assumed that the store description is best off labelled as the literal description and not box text because, well, there's no "box" here when the games are all digital. A notable example of this would be Jet Set Radio https://vgcollect.com/item/38262 - what are the guidelines for this if there's any?

I've also taken the official PS Store images from their store page and tried to add them for some games, such as Dead Space Extraction, which currently has a very ugly image on its entry page https://vgcollect.com/item/13301 - however it was rejected (because the store image has no logo or text I presume). There's also other games like Dragon Age: Origins which also has an outdated picture on this site, but the image on the PS Store is absolutely no better. But what's worse, the outdated, pretty blurry image in use right now (https://vgcollect.com/item/61622) or the low res image on the store coupled with awful cropping? There's no way to win either way you go. There's quite a few other games like this out there.

I tried to resolve the issue once before with Jak 3. On the store page the official image is a low res, zoomed in, badly cropped picture of the official PS2 NA artwork.

So instead, I just made a better crop of the PS2 artwork myself of what I believe the PS Store image was supposed to be and submitted it - it looks decent enough. Only problem is that it's not technically official anymore.

The Steam category is pretty consistent as far as images go. PSN NA could be consistent too, I'd say it would make the database look a lot more clean. But when there's a lot of hideous official pictures on the PS Store, I don't know what to trade-off - cleanliness and consistency or straight accuracy?

I thought that the steelbook was its own product, but it was actually just a part of the Hardened Edition, though I did submit an edit to have its name changed to just "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 - Steelbook" - please delete it if it doesn't belong, unless it should be kept for people who bought it separately from the Hardened Edition.

Suggestion: I noticed the Developer and Publisher information are in a different order between the Item page and the Edit page (they're swapped around); it could be fixed for consistency. Not a big deal I know, but it shouldn't take much work anyways.

Keep up the great work Jason!

Video Game Database Discussion / Re: Developer/Publisher Requests
« on: September 18, 2017, 05:35:41 pm »
Found some developers/publishers not listed yet (all were needed for PSN (PS3) titles). I included the type and the game I tried to add them for too.

  • Pwnee Studios (developer) - Cloudberry Kingdom
  • General Arcade (developer) - Duke Nukem 3D: Megaton Edition
  • PixelOpus (developer) - Entwined
  • Gamoola Soft/Ravn Studio (developers) - Snakeball
  • Funktronic Labs (developer) - Nova-111
  • Mine Loader Software (developer) - Pac-Man Championship Edition DX+
  • Boss Key Productions (developer) is also missing for LawBreakers.
  • Sparpweed Games (developer) - ibb & obb
  • Double Eleven (publisher) - Frozen Synapse Prime
  • Sparpweed Games (publisher) - ibb & obb
  • Big Ant Studios (publisher) - Jetpack Joyride/Jetpack Joyride Deluxe
  • Curve Digital (publisher) - Nova-111 and Stealth Inc 2
  • Marvelous (publisher) - Skullgirls Encore (There's a few versions of Marvelous already in the database, but Wikipedia has the publisher for Skullgirls as just plain Marvelous, which doesn't exist yet.)
Also, SquareSoft is misspelled as SqaureSoft in the publisher section.  :)

I'm not really sure what's going on here, maybe these are alternate boxarts.

Just got this bad boy in the mail: my first FF game. I'm sure this game lives up to all its hype.

Classic Video Games / Re: Is Raystorm really that rare?

I actually did not look at the listing long enough to realize it was sealed, but that definitely makes more sense. Even then the discs by themselves on Amazon are being asked for over 20 dollars, 30 dollars sometimes, which is... interesting. I think what happened here was that the listings have just slowly started to increase in value over time because others think that this is how much its really worth, because I honestly have never even heard of this game being considered "rare" before today. Rarity is the only excuse I could think of for this game having such a high price even for just disc only but that doesn't seem to be the case here. I'm just not sure how the different variants of the discs matter towards its uncommon-ness or if it even matters at all. The fact that the game advertises a competition is also something, some games in the past that have been involved in competition (NWC, maybe SwordQuest) have gotten attention like this, but for those games it's a completely different story. Though, I don't have much experience with "rare" games, the rarest I have probably just being PaRappa PS1. Thanks guys.

Classic Video Games / Is Raystorm really that rare?
« on: August 09, 2017, 11:15:44 am »
So I was browsing rare PS1 games that I could add to my collection then I saw a site listing Raystorm as an expensive/rare game... what? I bought this game for six dollars or so 5 years ago and I had no idea it was worth anything. Heck, the only eBay offer for it right now on that page has it listed for almost 200 dollars. There's a few different disc versions too. Apparently the whole "Ray-" series is rare after looking it up a bit, but I can't really find any more information besides that. Does anyone know more about this? Why did the price spike so hard?

I tried submitting new images for a few games for PSN PS3 with images straight off of the Playstation store, but when they were (rarely) accepted they turned into pitch black squares. Tried resubmitting the right image but it was rejected.

Picked up Uncharted: Drake's Fortune, Daxter, and a third copy of Croc a few days ago (Thankfully third times the charm as my first two copies didn't work or hardly worked), and ordered Medievil II + Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee today. T'is a shame they were not in stores as I could have easily saved so much money :(
