News / Two New Administrators
« on: February 04, 2016, 04:44:39 pm »
As VGCollect continues to grow, so does the need for additional staff members.  Recently we have been experiencing a large increase in database activity, to address this we started by adding Mastafafik to the staff last month.  However to continue to ensure that user's needs are met in a timely matter we are happy to announce the addition of two more members, Desocietas and Tripredacus!  :D

If you have spent anytime at all on the forums Desocietas is a name you will immediately recognize.  She has been an active member both in the forums and the database since the earliest days of VGCollect in 2011.  Back when the forums looked like this!

Tripredacus may not be as familiar of a face on the forums to most people, but for those that browse the Database Discussion section of the forum he is very well known.  Tripredacus has consistently submitted high quality edits and helped us catch many duplicates over the years.

With these two fantastic additions to the staff we are now equipped to better handle your requests and continue to provide the high quality of service that you have come to expect from VGCollect.

Let's direct the thread back on topic.  This argument has unnecessarily escalated far enough.

Runescape...

I first started an account 13 years ago on RS1. it got hacked soon after RS2 came out made a new account that day and have had it for 12 years. I go through periods of playing the absolute crap out of it for months and months sometimes years, and then I put it down and forget about it for a few months/years, then pick it back up.

I actually picked it up again sometime in august or September and found out they made RS3 which scares me so I hopped onto the now RS Classic (RS2) and realized the characters were dumped. in otherwords I had to start again, and have since got fletching to lvl 99 and cooking to 95 which are the easiest skills to level but still take hundreds of hours to achieve each.

to me this is just a really easy game to play that allows you to do other things while playing, like watching youtube/tv or cooking in RL. in fact I cook better in RL because I can very accurately time when I started by how many inventories I have gone through in RS.

whats suprising is for a 15-16 year old game it has such an active community of probably over 100,000 accounts.
What's your IGN on RS/OSRS/RSC?  Haven't played in like five months due to school obligations, but would love to have a fellow VGCollector on my friends list whenever I inevitably pick it up again (never been able to quit the damn game forever).  I actually bought a month of membership not too long ago to get access to the RSC since it opened for a couple months again.  My eventual goal is to do all the quests across all 3 games, but I'm not even remotely close despite how many years I have been playing off and on.

Video Game Database Discussion / Re: Listing Errors 2016
« on: January 31, 2016, 03:28:34 pm »
I've been editing games from the PS2 EU category for weeks now and everything was going fine until yesterday when i've tried to edit the french version of Summoner 2, almost all the edits got accepted but one didn't, the box text field was rejected (reason : "Action Not Allowed"), i don't really understand why ? All box text i've edited until now was accepted without any problem (even when i do an error and put it in the description field...  :-[) but this one was rejected, is there a specific reason ? is this because it's a non-english version (the style guide doesn't say anything about it) ?
Not sure why it would have been rejected.  There is no rule against having non-English box text.  In fact I have even submitted non-English box text myself before.  If you resubmit the edit it should be accepted.

Not sure why they would have been rejected either.  It's possible that an admin may have accidentally thought you were editing the description field rather than the box text field.  This is a common mistake people make when editing digital entries on the site.  If you resubmit the edits they should be accepted this time.  I apologize for the inconvenience.

General / Re: Biggest series to collect?
« on: January 27, 2016, 04:01:25 pm »
I think a lot depends on what you consider a "game" in the series.  If you include all of the ports as individual games in a series than there are a lot to collect.  For example a year or so ago I went through and added a lot of the Wizardry ports to VGCollect, http://vgcollect.com/search/wizardry/.  There are now 134 entries in the database, and I know of some that I missed already.  There is a similar trend with Pac-Man that got released on nearly every system possible back in the day.
If you don't include all of the different ports, remakes, etc. then there are only 35 distinct releases of Wizardry.

In other news, y'all won't catch me on here much during the day.  I'm up for a BIG promotion at work and I have a few projects that could make or break me.  I've gotta keep my head in the game.

Good luck, Turf!  :)

My oldest daughter has become obsessed with Star Wars.  Really, really obsessed.  Mind you, I think it's cool because it's something we have in common and it's better than her (thankfully waning) One Direction obsession.   ::)

In any event, we have watched episodes 1-6 twice now, seen Force Awakens in the theater and I should have the Clone Wars Blu-Ray Collection in the mail this afternoon when I get home.  So I see us binge-watching that entire series over the next week.  By the time we are finishing up, Rebels season 1 and Clone Wars Lost Missions Blu-Rays should be arriving in the mail from Amazon so we will segue right into those.  Then, we can follow it up with the Robot Chicken Star Wars collection and the Family Guy Star Wars stuff.

Don't forget to watch the holiday special!  :P

And also welcome back Disgaeniac, good to see you on the forums again  :)

Staff and their family members are not eligible to play.

This rule is unfair!  :P

I have been playing the new Goat Simulator DLC and it is absolutely incredible.  This game continues to provide hours of entertainment as I near 60 hours of play time.  Also been playing some Rocket League which has been great fun as well.  I'm also about ten hours into Xenoblade Chronicles X, but have not had much time to play the last couple weeks.

Did you check your spam folder?  Also have you changed your email address at all that is on file at the website?  When I was having issues and reset my password it went to the spam folder of my old email address that I had previously used for VGCollect.
If it's not there I'm out of ideas. I'll have to pass this one on to Jason or Matt.

I was actually having this issue a couple years ago after a major site update.

First clear your Browser cache and attempt to login.  If that does not work  try going here to login to the forums:
http://vgcollect.com/forum/index.php?action=login

If that does not work try using an older password for the forum login link (assuming that you changed your password since joining the site).  For some reason there was a period of time where I had to use my old password to login to the forums and my normal password to login to the main site.  If that does not work try the "Forgot my Password" link on that forum login link and reset the password.
