Off Topic / Re: What are your thoughts on Reddit?

I enjoy using Reddit, but also noticed a shift for the worse happened around 2014-present, current news threads make their way on nearly every non-political community. I unsubscribed to majority of the the default subreddits, and I'm regularly on /r/retrogaming plus a few other console specific communities. One highlight is the /r/gamesale, had plenty of great transactions that went smooth sailing.

Yes! That is why I prefer playing retro games after all these years, discovering 'new' favorites for your old systems. From fan-translations, to obscure hidden gems that never were localized to the west.

1. Elemental Master
2. Alien Soldier
3. Twinkle Tale
4. Advanced Busterhawk Gleylancer
5. Dynamite Headdy
6. Aero Blasters
7. Rent A Hero
8. Atomic Runner
9. Columns III
10. Marvel Land

Nice to see Alien Soldier and Gleylancer on there. As with most things some of the best games never made their way West. Wasn't Aero Blasters TG16/PC Engine? I know their was an Arrow Flash shooter for Gen/MD.

Mine:
Gunstar Heroes
Light[e]ning Force
Streets of Rage II
Sonic the Hedgehog 2
Thunder Force II
Steets of Rage
Biohazard Battle
Super Hangon
Road Rash II
Golden Axe II

Thanks, very true many gems stayed in Japan unfortunately. When I was really into Treasure dev, Alien Solider was on my bucket list for years. Such an action-packed game. I was going to mention Gaiares, or Arrow Flash (MD/GEN has a bunch of solid shoot'em ups) but decided with Gleylancer ... since I never heard about this game until very recently (2-years ago) I completed it, it really took me by surprise how great the overall game is from the presentation to power-up system.

Yes- Aero Blaster also went by Air Buster is on TG16/PC which is also solid in its own right. Biohazard Battle, nice choice.

Off Topic / Favorite Music of 2019
« on: January 06, 2020, 09:47:34 pm »
Since we had Favorite Music of 2018 thread, decided to start one for 2019! Looking back what were some of your favorite music of last year?

Korn - The Nothing : A strong emotional album that delivers thanks to producer Nick Raskulinecz.

Slipknot - We Are Not Your Kind : Surprising return to form bringing back the dark, eerie side of the band.

Cold - The Things We Can't Stop : The most mature sounding Cold album that really grew on me.

Hyde - Anti : Solid rock album with spectacular ballads, and an incredible cover of Duran Duran's Ordinary World.

I was disappointed with a few albums one being Hed PE - Stampede album since an abundance of autotune was used. Another album being Flaw - Vol IV Because of the Brave since a few tracks were exposed of plagiarism, others were bought from other musicians online and were not created by the band.

Looking forward to upcoming releases in 2020 from: Gemini Syndrome (3rd album to end the trilogy) Julien-K, Ventana, Static-X (posthumous album) Jeffrey Nothing (Doom Candy project) Mushroomhead, Adema, Dry Kill Logic, Methods of Mayhem, Onesidezero, Love & Death, Ded. Holding out hope for Deadsy, Limp Bizkit (Stampede of the Disco Elephants).

Treasure's Gun Beat on Sega NAOMI arcade board

I wish this was released, and ported to Sega Dreamcast. The gamplay reminds me of Bomberman Fantasy Race with Treasure's quirkiness.

Classic Video Games / Re: 25th anniversary of SEGA Saturn

Some of my most fond memories are with SEGA's 32-bit powerhouse Saturn!

Without re-hashing previous posts replies on the subject..

I would defend reputation of bringing sub-par ports of software back in the day recommending the awesome exclusive games that were available on the system instead. It was the first system I was hyped-up for after playing plenty of SEGA arcade games growing up and reading previews in magazines. Despite my local rental store only offering a handful of Saturn games, I enjoyed using the system to play Audio-CD around the house.

Eventually would own a PlayStation in 1997 - It would be a few years later 2002 I would start modding, ripping, burning Saturn games (preferably imports) re-igniting my passion for the system again. The only other time I was as hyped for a release was SEGA's Dreamcast North American launch on September 9, 1999.
