I don't see anything out of the ordinary.

Heres a picture of a VA13 motherboard that has a ceramic disc cap across those two points. So it's definitely factory albeit very sloppy.

Yea I'm aware of the motor issue. I don't know how much it's been swapped before I got it, but I hardly use the thing.

I'm not saying I won't get an Action Replay, I'm wondering why I'm able to do this when it seems like you usually can't?

Also, the price for a Saturn and an Action Replay isn't all that far apart.
The Saturn Game Shark can play imports and a used can be procured for under $20 used. It just wont work for the games that require ram expansion carts.

As to why this works for you I can't say. I always heard that the only way of playing  playing imports was with the aid of a cart or a mod chip. Maybe your Saturn has been altered in some way. I've heard stories of lucky individuals who have bought a system like a PS1 or Saturn and found mod chips installed in them.

Forcing the spindle motor to a halt like that can eventually cause it to fail. So whats cheaper a action replay/game shark or a whole new replacement Saturn.

For burned games however I can see using the swap trick to not have to pay $300+ dollars to play Panzer Dragoon Saga.

A friend of mine was looking through my collection earlier and he asked me as to why I have so many duplicates of certain consoles. I tried explaining to him it was for a couple of reasons. That some of them I play almost on a daily basis so they'll naturally experience a lot of wear and a backup will eventually be needed. So I get them whenever I find them cheap. Also for older systems if I'm gonna shell out top dollar for some of the rarer expensive titles especially ones for older systems I like the feeling that I'll always have a working unit to play them on. He didn't really seem satisfied with my answer and said that I'm just obsessive and a hoarder.  :(

What are your guys thoughts on this is owning multiples of consoles a obsessive or hoarding behavior?

Don't worry about that guy. He's just a troll that followed me from GameSpot a while back. He's looking to start a circular argument, I'm sure.
Yeah I totally remember that guy from the now deceased Legacy Platforms section of Gamespot. He was a known troll and suspected of making a slew of alt accounts that'd usually got banned for trolling within days. He'd post 1000-2000 word walls of text that would consist of nothing more than flame baiting nonsense. e.g. http://www.sportsgamer.com/forums/games-discussion-1000000/gamecube-it-seems-it-failed-because-nintendo-was-l-29025578/

It was really nothing more than a gimmick when it came out and it's nothing more than a curiosity/collectible now. If you want one merely for the sake of collecting than so be it, just know that aside from occasionally looking at it on a shelf there's really not much if any fun to be had with it.

Well it can't be just the discs, because my brother's PS2 plays them just fine.
If his PS2 is a fat it will eventually have the problem. There's a rubbery coating on the spindle motor that wears down overtime and it causes a loss of the grip on the disc. On the slims the disc snap tightly into place onto the spindle motor so they don't have this problem.

98
The ''grinding'' sound you are hearing it the disc losing traction and slipping when the spindle motor tries to spin it up. I don't know exactly why this happens with the blue CD format PS2 discs, maybe they're thinner than the latter DVD format PS2 games. There's nothing really you can do to permanently fix it on the PS2's side.

Some people put tape around the inner diameter of the disc to artificially thicken the disc to improve traction. However I wouldn't use anything but electrical tape to do this as it shouldn't stick on the disc hard enough to damage the label when trying to remove it.

The difference is the Turbo Express doesnt have its own library.
That is true, however quite a lot of the Game Gear's library are Master System ports.

Hey what about TurboExpress? Come on

If your gonna compare the TurboExpress with something it's gotta be with the Sega Nomad.
Both are portable versions of the their 16-bit console counterpart.
The Game Gear is really nothing but a portablized Master System. Their hardware is nearly identical to each other. Which is the reason as to why it's capable of playing MS games with the Master Gear Converter. So it's actually not really all that different from the Nomad and TurboExpress.

If your wiring burns up when plugging in a PC-Engine, then there's something wrong with it, not the system.
I was joking..
I don't get it. ???

I feel that the Game Gear had a better library
Agreed Also if you count the Master System's library of which the Game Gear is capable of playing with the MS adapter than even more so.

Thanks.  Mine is flat but is there a way for me to verify that its a CRT?

If it's enormous and not thin like a panel than it's a CRT.

105
Now this may be stupid question so forgive my ignorance in advance, does CRT mean "tubed" tvs?  Mine is a flat and I was wondering should I search for an older tubed tv meaning non flat screen for my older game systems?
CRT means cathode ray tube and yes they are the huge tube tv's. Most CRT screens are curved but some of the newer ones also have flat screens.
