Classic Video Games / Re: My on-going SMS test thread

Holy hell, I forgot all about this. It's been 10 years since I did this. Apparently, I never finished either, lmao.

Since then, I have sold off my entire SMS collection.

Modern Video Games / Re: Where do you draw the line? New Game Prices
« on: February 28, 2024, 02:32:31 pm »
I guess I'm the person who sees this from a different point of view. Games were $60-70 when the Snes/genesis was on the shelves. The fact that they aren't already over $100 each is baffling. But I follow a strict guideline. $1 an hour is what I would pay. So on games like Diablo IV where I've clocked over 600 hours, I got a steal for only having paid about $200 for the CE. Consider the alternative of drinking or smoking away that money and all the people complaining really have no leg to stand on.

Gonna start this with saying What's up GF? Haven't seen you post in a while!!! I've always said f*ck MS.  ;)

As far as the actual topic here, I've completed collecting. There is not a single item out there that I have been after that I haven't found and acquired eventually. I liquidated a lot of my collection also to make room for what really matters to me. Which is -

Falcom games and stuff
Dragon quest stuff
PlayStation consoles, controllers, and stuff
All the retro RPGs I enjoyed in my younger years.
F4F statues and the like.

I have a bit more stuff to eliminate from my storage but after that, it's only looking to the future for new stuff I want.

Favorite 2023 Release: What's your favorite game that you played released this year? Has to be Reverie. Such a fantastic ending to Liberl/Crossbell/Erebonia

Least Favorite 2023 Release: On the opposite end, what's your least favorite game released this year? Really do not have an answer for this. Every game I played I liked. I am disappointed at how Diablo IV turned out with the seasons and the lack of end game though.

Favorite Game Played in 2023: What game this year earns your spot for best game ever? Persona 5 Royal. Anyone who has not experienced this game is doing themselves an injustice by making it wait.

Least Favorite Game Played in 2023: What's your least favorite game that you played this year? Again from above, I didn't have a game this year I disliked.

Sleeper Hit of 2023: If you have one, what's your personal sleeper hit for 2023? Midnight suns, hands down. I normally do not get into card based games but this game was done so well. Screw all the naysayers. Give this one a shot. You won't regret it!

Favorite Gaming Moment in 2023: What moment in a game you played this year sticks in your head the strongest? Was it something awesome? Something tragic? Something completely over the top? Keep spoilers to a minimum or mark them if you can. Mine isn't technically in a game but it's my tattoos. I have added a piece from: Ni no Kuni, Final fantasy, Diablo, Ys, Tokyo Xanadu and Dragon quest and next Friday, I'm doing Gal Gun/Gal Guardians.

Proudest Collection Accomplishment of 2023: Share a story about a cool find from this year! This is almost the antithesis of this question but my accomplishment was finally selling off all of my extras I had. Accepted a fair offer on the entire lot and it cleared up much needed space so that my collection itself and grow.

I just realized after looking at the first post - dhaabi, you're not participating in the fun??

Not this year, but perhaps in the future. I wanted to ensure that there weren't an odd amount of participants, so I treated myself as a reserve. So, had there been a ninth participant, I'd have joined as the tenth to even it out.

Could have done it still with an odd number of people! Person 1 -> 2 -> 3 -> 4 -> 5 -> 6 -> 7 -> 8 -> 9 -> 1 but that's a moot point since people have already been paired

I didn't give my participation too much thought, so I clearly overlooked that (obvious) possibility. Like I said from the beginning, I mostly didn't want the event to not happen at all if community interest was still present. Nevertheless, I can still enjoy the event for what it is from an organizer's perspective.

Just curious why you expected this wasn't going to happen?

This has been an absolutely atrocious year for getting me hyped for gaming. Great for the wallet. Horrible for my hobby. 90% sure now that PS5 will be my last system.

Not sure how this is even possible. Probably the best year in gaming in the last 10 years or so.
***3*** Legend of heroes/Trails games
Ys X announcement/gameplay
Diablo IV and Baldur's gate 3
Neptunia Sisters Vs Sisters got released.
Granblue fantasy getting a release timeframe.
The 3 biggest fighting franchises, Mortal Kombat, Street fighter, and Tekken all getting a new release.
Final fantasy VII and XVI both getting a release.
Dragon quest getting another console release.
Spider-man 2 (and possibly Wolverine) soon.
Persona 3 and P5 Tactics plus screenshots of Project ReFantasy (Metaphor: ReFantazio)

I couldn't even imagine a better year.

In my personal world, this would be the show -

60 minute show.
First 10 minutes of basic new stuff that is ehhh.
Next 10 minutes is FFXVI.
Followed by FFVII Remake.
Stellar Blade.
MK1 with a showing of Johnny Cage and (hopefully) Kano.
Granblue Fantasy ReLink gameplay and release window.

Close out with a new game that hasn't been mentioned before.

I joined the site in either 2012 or 2013 at the request of disgaeniac.

 :'( :'( :'( :'(

On my own personal note, I joined back in like 2011 or something. Was the COO of a big retro game club and wanted to start cataloging my stuff. Darko mentioned this place and I've been here ever since. My collection focus has changed so many times in those years but I think I'm finally where I want to be.

My dog growing up was named Nester (from Nintendo Power).

No one is talking about Baldur's Gate 3?! That game, and Wolverine being console exclusives is starting to make me regret getting an Xbox Series X.

PlayStation always wins!

Other than those six games, I'm hoping for a little more information on Dragon Quest III's 2D-HD remake and Dragon Quest XII: The Flames of Fate this year.

I haven't heard much about DQ XII since the announcement. Also have heard whispers of a game called DQ: Infinite Strash (not even sure what Strash means tbh).

I don't know how I missed this thread. My  list is short and sweet.

Play games - I'm already 2 games completed (Trails in the sky 3rd and Midnight suns) and should be one more this week (Neptunia Sisters vs Sisters). Tales of Symphonia drops next week followed by Trails to Azure next month. Will be playing those upon arrival. Want to keep this going. Last year I ended the year with more completed titles than I have had in probably 5 or 6 years prior. I missed actual gaming.

Sell games - I have cleared nearly 1000 games off my shelves in the last 3 years. I still have a lot of them for sale. I want to keep my backlog to a respectable level.

Statues - I have started collecting statues. First 4 figures, Kotobukiya, and others make really badass statues. I feel that supporting the series I like the most vs just having games on shelves makes my collection more "mine".

Wish list - My wishlist is really tiny as of late. Maybe 10 items total. Wouldn't mind slowly picking up pieces maybe 1 every 2 months or so till its done.
