I don't think in a far future rainbow six will be that collectible compared to common desirable ip's like mario or zelda. it's far too common and it's in the category of the type of games that age very poorly outclassed by new stuff, less people that will go back and play those. you can rest easily knowing copies of rainbow six will remain in the dollar bin for the next 100 years.

If rainbow six will be collectible as an ip probably just factory sealed copies and preferably 1st releases of the very beginning of the series.

Seems Sony has implemented a rule on new digital purchases...oddly...the very rule that Microsoft implemented causing so much backlash that propelled the PS4's sales. That new rule is that once every 30 days, your Playstation must connect to PSN to verify your keycodes, or your digital games will brick. My understanding is previously purchased digital games will remain unaffected.

So, this means the end of me buying any digital only games.

Congrats on adding yet another reason to not buy a PS6, Sony.

what if you connect in say 80 days since you haven't touched the game in a while I'd assume it's still playable than since it's probably gotto connect to the internet per 30 days to keep the code active. but there is no time limit in which when you do so if you play it much later on.

Just to clarify, the $250 NeoGeo is just the console itself with a wired arcade stick. The 35th Anniversary bundle I'm planning to get is $350 and includes Metal Slug, a wireless arcade stick, and a memory card (all in white). It is $100 more than the console itself, but with the game being $90 and the memory card being $35, it's still cheaper than buying everything separately. Personally I'm much less hesitant to spend $350 on a new-manufacture console bundled with a game and memory card than I would be to spend $400 on a used console with capacitors that have been around since I was a toddler, and have to buy a game and memory card on top of that. Not to mention the new version has HDMI out and dip switches for region selection, display modes, and even overclocking the CPU.

On a side note, it seems quite a bit of the console manufacturing costs are tied up in the arcade stick, as those are priced at $120 each.

I did see Plaion's Atari consoles on the Atari website and almost bought a 5200, but then I remembered I can't stand playing games that old. It's hard enough for me to get into NES games, so going to something even older would be a painful experience and something I'd hardly ever get any use out of.

if you don't mind the white yes the limited edition bundle is better value.

I think the controller is the money maker here personally that being said decent arcade controllers are not cheap so it could be a cost thing but I do think the console was more pricy to make. the 250$ console deal is to get people in and buy some games alongside it if you'd ask me.

The best deal would be the ultimate edition if your willing to spend 900 or 1K? and save like 300$

Update on my last post. It looks like Plaion has already done this with multiple consoles, neat! Just weird that they've gotten rid of all the site pages for these products and on stuff like the Atari store listings, Plaion isn't mentioned at all. Maybe rights were exchanged or something.

It probably looks worse alongside the neo geo aes.

atari would taint the image of the good stuff, most folks don't like atari shit grapics, shit music, shit gameplay and we don't talk about the rest.

nobody gives a shit about atari & co consoles even most people that grew up with it usually don't like it anymore

atari & co are nice for that history and all but than again,

I think they made a fantastic choice removing those junk tier consoles those don't deserve to be in the presence of the aes/mvs the rolls royce among retro gaming.

I saw their list and no sega, nintendo, sony or nec pc console detected, nothing of value was lost.

and the console with a controller is only like 400$ not a massive price diff compared to this.

For a brand new closed in box consoles plus a game, I feel like $250 is a pretty massive price difference compared to $400, only 62% of the cost!

Has anything been done like this before? I know that there are a lot of boutique companies that will make a game cart here and there for a modern indie game ported to the game boy color and whatnot. But has a retro console ever been genuinely put back into production like this? If not, I think this would give me strong hope that it could happen with other consoles in the future (Maybe Master System/Genesis?). The fundamental issue that I see with game collecting is that the number of people growing up and wishing to collect is always growing, while the supply of everything worth collecting continually shrinks as games and systems enter permanent collections and experience physical degradation. Simple 1:1 reproduction is such a dream solution to that, although I can see investors and speculators being upset for dropping their prices (good!)

he said it was his holy grail. I feel like it's pretty attainable if you really wanted it with the jap console that most aes owners use anyway and get some of the early jap titles which are cheaper than 90$ each.

regardless no hate for this neo geo release in which they actually try to create an authentic experience, hence it's higher price point since the console is 1/1 and they are keeping those massive carts and both the games and console can be used with old hardware  :o

This ain't junkbin tier snes. nes or megadrive mini console raspberry pi in a cheap retro skin. analogue quality and first party by SNK themselves, I probably might get a few games on this one to use on my aes. SNK gets mad respect from me, looks great other companies should take an example of this.

is this thread an april fools joke or what. good one.

I mean you could always collect japanese a sizable amount of cib games that are less or around the 100$ mark. and the console with a controller is only like 400$ not a massive price diff compared to this.

It's cool to see some original all be it modern physical copies of them rare games like turf masters and metal slug 1 though.

you can with vg analyze a standalone download in which you download your collection 1 time and can use it offline.

Don't know where the thread is at for the download anymore however

but you could ask our local npc @dhaabi where it's at

I never bothered looking at this program when it was first posted, and I forgot about it. Using the forum Search tool, the topic was easy to find.

Speak of the devil

In terms of on the site, don't think so. options are rather limited although it's already efficient enough to look what you have per console I'd argue.

Physical or bust.

if buying ain't owning sailing the seven seas ain't stealing

Yep, this was coming with all the news about chip shortages last year. A big part of the reason I finally bought a PS5 this most recent Black Friday.

As for Switch 2, they are apparently cutting production of new consoles by 30%. Nintendo commented on it but didn't necessarily deny it.

Yeah, this PS5 news has me ready toget a Swtlitch earlier than I planned just to avoid a potential price increase.

it was bound to happen, all the negative rep with key cards, high prices and not the greatest games will do that to a console not to mention them adapting some of the bad new stuff from other consoles ain't helping either.

too many negatives few positives.

I work in an industry that is very adjacent to the boom in AI adoption, and it's absolutely disgusting how much greed is fueling all this. CEOs and executive teams are frothing at the mouth over all this and they speak with glee about replacing large percentages of their workforce and investing in thousands of new data centers. They simply do not care how much this is decimating certain industries, all they see is massive dividends for themselves and their shareholders.

It's really crazy how bad it is and how there has to be a bubble to burst, which might be happening now with some recent happenings, because it seems like everything to do with AI and these tech giants, is just this circular money pit.  One company invests in another company or builds upon their own, funneling money around which looks great for shareholders and people with stock, but it's all being done with no actual profit or product being.  No jobs are being created, jobs are being loss, and these services make jack squat in terms of money made.  I think it was OpenAI where it was shown that operating costs were in the billions, but they were only making a couple hundred million.  The only people making money are at the top and now almost the entire tech industry is being ruined because of it.  It's insane.

I'm glad I got my PC built in 2024 (My RAM quadrupled its price from when I bought it) and I still have my PS5, but I was considering getting a Switch 2 or VR headset this year and I might have to think about doing that more quickly just to avoid price increases that are bound to happen, when I was sitting here waiting on a sale to happen to maybe save a few bucks on either lol

On a lighter note, 900 dollars for a PS5 pro is the funniest thing ive heard since my first time seeing a Chapelle stand up.  How high will the prices go and how low will quality dip before consumers back away entirely and the entire gaming industry collapses? Atari didnt think it would happen either. But it did.

I mean if rumours are to be believed  ::)

Rather expect the higher end price range than the lower one

dough bowser was swapped out quick think the guy was there for only a year or two.

Not really. Doug Bowser served as company president for nearly six years from April 2019 to December 31, 2025.

your right, doesn't feel that way though he wasn't as present

This doesn't surprise me, but what's ultra lame about this is your "physical" game is probably just a key card, so you might as well save money and just get the digital version at that point.

and nintendo is smart about them keycards aswell they short print em near release in which people buy em like crazy and might buy em all out in the next few waves to come.

Poketopia sells for like 50% higher than msrp in the 2ndary market lol.

With these kinda examples it just gives them more justification to go game keycards and apply simular selling strats like most tcg do these days. keeping physical limited compared to demand to get that fomo experience. eventhough it's literally just a coaster that has a code in it to activate a download for the next 10 years till servers are down.

I love Nintendo's IPs, but I sort of hate them as a company now. They've become almost just as sleazy and greedy as companies like EA or Ubisoft. I suppose preying on your consumers has been all the rage for a while and Nintendo was a bit of an outlier for a while. It just sucks to see them become almost the exact opposite of what they were less than a decade ago.

well it's probably cause we lost all them goats like reggie and iwata that kept it as good as it was and them old folks like miyamoto getting super old and probably having less power as times goes by, New blood is getting more and more power in the company stuff is bound to change hence why we are getting stuff like other consoles.

Their newest ceo of america ain't looking to hot I'll say that much, dough bowser was swapped out quick think the guy was there for only a year or two.

you don't necessarily need to have grown up at the time to have experienced said consoles back in the day when they where brand new.

I got to play consoles like the genesis as a kid just cause my older cousin still had one. fun times really some whacky games on said consoles always got to play on said console when I visited. same for N64 and the snes.

ps1 eventhough an older gen was plentyfull and quite some folks still used ps1 games on a ps2 even quite some years later, it lasted for quite some time longer than most older consoles as a result in which most friends still had a stash of ps1 games or pirated ones. don't think there was a kid around that didn't play ctr or some of the re games where I was at.

GBA: What's sad is I actually did have a GBA in the early 2000s. I actually got a GBA for Christmas the same year they came out, along with Tony Hawk Pro Skater 2 (which wasn't that great tbh). The only games I remember really getting into on my GBA were Advance Wars and later on Pokemon Ruby. Especially over the last couple years, I've developed a newfound appreciation for the GBA, one that has blossomed over time into full blown love. So, so many excellent games were released on it, and I find its graphics and sound to be beyond charming and nostalgic. I just wish I'd spent more time with the GBA back in the 2000s when I owned my original one, but I guess it's better to appreciate something eventually rather than never.

GBA era was something else. speaking of pokemon it was arguably the gen with the best puzzles and mysteries. Them talks about them regi puzzles and using braille on them school grounds or how you could brag if you could breed feebass which was insanely hard to get in these games only appearing in 4 tiles in a huge area that was random per copy. also advance wars against other was an absolute blast. or dbz advanced adventure multiplayer that stuff was goated. also in terms of rpg's the fire emblem games, golden sun the medabots rpg's. very packed system

I'll say this I love the console allot but have seen it's flaws more and more as the years go by so sadly I have appreciated the console a bit less over the years in favor of comparable home console counterparts with more grander 2d games. than again that's just me being less interested in handheld gaming as the years go on. at the end of the day plenty of experiences that are only on gba that ain't really replaced on other consoles and some soundtracks will always hit that nostalgia bug for me thinking back of more simpler times.

I guess there is just something special about experiencing and being fully engrossed within the excitement of a current gen console that cannot be replicated years after it's no longer being produced. It's almost like being in the right place at the right time, and having memories or experiences that only other people that were fully on board the hype train at the time can fully relate to. I completely fee that way with the N64 and pretty much every 6th gen console. I still love going back and revisiting games on the PS2 or Dreamcast, but even playing games for it now, it's just not the same as when I was younger and would get so excited to see some new game come out for either of those consoles, and be even more excited to actually play it. Even if you played a console back when it came out, I guess it's possible to feel like you still missed out of it due to limited exposure or lack of opportunities to actually play it.

With Pokemon Ruby, I didn't actually beat it back around the time it came out. I was in high school at the time and had all sorts of other things going on in my life during that time. I started it, got like four badges, and then sporadically played it for like the next year until I stopped playing it before even reaching the Pokemon league. Still, when counting my GBA experiences back in the day, it was one of them. Speaking of being in high school, there were far fewer of my peers that had a GBA or really had much interest in it. On the flip side, my little brother who is 5 years younger than me was way more into it, as were many of his friends. He certainly had way more exposure to the system back in the early and mid 2000s that I did. I even remember him obsessing about wanting a blue SP when those first came out. Had I been even just 3 or 4 years younger in 2002 or 2003, I feel like I'd likely not be wishing right now that I'd spent more time with the GBA, since the console would have been far more up my ally at the time.

people where obsessed with special variations of the console for sure, if you had the pokemon or zelda gba sp you had the sweet looking console compared to the bland ones. had the groudon one some of my peers had the kyogre one or zelda one. The tribal one was the worst :P i bet the tribal one was often in discount it was so common.  who's idea was this, nobody likes the tribal
