I never stopped buying physical media and that goes for movies as well. Got around 700 Movies and TV Shows on DVD and around 180 Blu Rays. I don't see much point in jumping to 4K, as my eye sight sucks anyway and all those modern re-releases seem to rely on removing all film grain, ai upscaling and strange color grading, like those atrocious re-releases of Aliens, True Lies and Abyss or the latest Terminator 2 with the wrong colors. I grew up with VHS (still got a stack ranging from Stop or my Mom will shoot to the Star Wars Special Edition Box) so i don't mind "low resolution".

Just pre-ordered the Miami Vice Box (original release was too expensive for me, before the DVD Boxes were cut since they used the German TV masters)
Last stuff i bought was a limited edition of Phantasm 2 (#386 of 999), Airplane, Westworld and Symphony of Fear which consists of three Dario Argento Movies: Suspiria, Opera and Four Flies on Grey Velvet) needles to say, i much prefer classic movies over modern ones, i'm still yawning from Oppenheimer and shudder from that horrendous Masters of the Universe trainwreck.

I avoid 4k as well. But that's because I back-up my physical media to a hard drive and  use it as a personal server tp watch my collection. I don't have a 4k drive to rip 4k movies.

Finished the Risen remaster. It's literally the same exact game as the original. I didn't see any changes at all. I don't understand why this was made. The original is already in HD even.

I just recently picked up season 1 and season 2 of Superboy (1988) on dvd. I'm mid-season one. It's cheap, it's hokey, it's cheesy, but it somehow is still charming and I keep watching it. Not sure what it is exactly but I'm entertained. I hear it actually gets better in season 2 (and they replace the actor that plays Superboy), but I haven't made it that far.

Lex Luthor is just...wow. Have you seen South Park? Do you remember the disabled bully? I swear the creator's of South Park based that character on this specific version of Lex luthor, sidekick and all. No exaggeration, he acts just like him, minus the disability.

Have you seen this? What are your thoughts on it?

Are you watching and UHD discs or just steaming?  That makes a big difference as well.

Discs. I have no way to rip my 4K discs. And even if I did, the non 4K are straight rips, not compressed to MP4. I bought mumyself a 25 TB hard drive to hold that full quality.

I made the 4K UHD pivot last year, so I've been kind of upgrading and buying new for my collection again.  Probably the last format I'll ever bother with.  I really don't see how quality could get that much better from here.

Got stacks of movies just sitting around the shelves and my desk.  Need to do another housecleaning.

I honestly don't see a big difference between Blu-Ray and 4K. And since my disc-ripper to my personal server os blu-ray, I avoid 4K anyways, except in the few cases it's the only option (WandaVision).

I think it is 100% dependent on the disc and the TV.  I got a HDR enabled 4K TV last year as well, and on specific HDR enabled discs the difference is pretty huge, but a lot of the time it is negligible.

I have an HDR (Samsung). It seems to make a big difference on video games, but on movies I don't notice it as much.

Rear Window - One of those films where I knew a huge amount of it going in, but I had never sat down and watched it front to back. Not much to say that hasn't been said before. It's Hitchcock, Jimmy Stewart, and some of the best set design of all time.

Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith - Best of the prequels, and the most I've enjoyed it maybe ever, but it is still a deeply flawed movie.

I know he has his defenders, and his performance is much better here than Attack of the Clones, but I think Hayden Christensen is just not good in this. His physicality is fine, even good in places, but he just does not have a handle on this dialogue. It is an issue that is exacerbated by the fact he shares most of his scenes with Ewan McGregor or Ian McDiarmid who are both really good, bordering on great here. Just makes his shortcomings with the material even more apparent.

Plotwise, Anakin's turn to the Dark Side works more than I remembered, but it is just how thoroughly evil he immediately becomes that is a tough pill to swallow. I get why he'd fall in with Palpatine, but to go from "Let's not summarily execute this guy, who I know has been manipulating an intergalactic war," to " I'm going to kill children for him," is insane.

Nirvanna the Band the Show the Movie - Impressed by how much it made me laugh jyst as much as I was by the production itself. Might have had some of the luster taken off by how much I learned about it ahead of time, but there's also a good chance I would have never seen it with zero context or hype.

Normal - It's fun! Good action, memorable characters, decent set-up. It has a couple of extra twists and turns that don't quite work, but overall it was a nice surprise.

Episode III makes sitting through Episodes I & II worth it.

With media constantly getting pulled and from streaming services, and stories of downloaded movies removed from customer's libraries, I feel collecting physical media is more important than ever. I've gone HARD on my physical media collecting. I've got a room full of media shelves stuffed with DVDs, blu-rays, and VHS. And I've gotten an external hard drive to back all of that up. Great thing about that is that the Plex app allows you to use your PC as a personal server, and now I have my own personal streaming service!

Happy birthday Sega Genesis!

On this day in 1989 the Sega Genesis was released in North America.

What was your favorite Genesis game?

Mine was definitely X-Men 2: The Clone Wars. That game and the Sonic games where the reason why I ended up buying a Sega Genesis when already being an SNES owner. The graphics, the sound, the comic accuracy were all awesome. But the gameplay was spot on too, and playing as Magneto was just the icing on the cake.
