General / Re: Why is Xbox not as desirable to collectors?

Rumors are that Microsoft's next-gen system, dubbed Project Helix, will not only have physical games, but allow for all previous Xbox system software to run on the new hardware. Just pop an Xbox, 360, X1, or XSX game in and it'll run.

xbox has been the most digital of em all. I see almost zero reason how this could come true, it makes zero sense and thanks to it's rep of giving up physical in the last 2 gens most people that do physical skip xbox.

Most digital of them all? How so? PlayStation has definitively said they are ending physical media. Nintendo is doing key cards. Meanwhile I have shelf full of Xbox games, their latest release is physical (Halo), and all signs point to them sticking with a disc drive.

Off Topic / Re: How do you deal with getting older?
« on: August 09, 2026, 12:35:09 am »
I'm 43. I haven't had most of the physical issues a lot of people my age have, I've been blessed with aging gracefully I guess. I have some greying going on. But the rest of the body seems to be holding up so far...well, I am on a Statin for cholesterol, but my numbers are good now, but that's it. I have a good marriage, a job I can't complain about, and a house I'm paying off. So I can't complain too much. Going through some of our own stuff, so it's not all sunshine and rainbows, but that is life.

One thing that really does suck about getting older is my kid getting older, though. She's 11 and the hormones are kicking in. It's just a change, but it feels like it was just yesterday I was giving her horse rides on my back around the house. And just the general feeling of watching your generation take a backseat as the next generation takes over pop-culture, style, music, etc.

Off Topic / Re: Did You? Or Do You Currently Smoke?

I used to smoke cigarettes, regulary. Nearly a pack a day, I'd usually be left with 2-5 cigarettes in my pack at the end of the day. I took Chantix to quite, never looked back. Worked great for me. My wife did the same, the Chantix did nothing for her and gave her crazy nightmares. So you just have to try it, I guess. That was many years ago, though. I couldn't imagine paying the prices people do now to smoke. Craziness.

I still smoke weed daily.

I've been to Ozzfest and Aftershock. But as cool as those festivals were, Iron Maiden was even better. They put on a helluva show. Played for couple hours. And Bruce Dickinson was all energy the entire time. They also played the hell out of their songs, definitely not a band that sounds worse live. The crowd was just massive, too, and into it, singing the songs. It was an experience.

The worst I've ever been to was Kansas. Granted they were quite old by then. But knowing that, they really should have had an opening band...they didn't. They played for maybe a half hour. And just kind of stood there while they played. Rip-off.

Backrooms - Unique take on horror. I enjoyed it. And it's not torture porn. If you're a horror fan, it's worth a watch.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day - I absolutely LOVED this! The surprise character...did not see that coming. Loved him FINALLY using the classic costume, that mask looked great! And while it was hard to top the epicness of Spider-Man: No Way Home, this was great in an entirely different way. Spider-Man finally felt like the character from the comic, a character that can stand on his own. He was no longer the teen-sidekick looking up to the Avengers. It really felt like you got done reading a well-written Spider-Man comic when it was over.

Super Troopers 3 - Funny. If you like the other movies, you'll like this. I won't say it tops the original, but it's definitely a good time.

X-Men '97 season 2 and Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Season 4. Both have been superb! X-Men '97 especially, just an X-Fan's dream come true!

I'm also doing a week-by-week watch through of WCW 1996 until it died in 2001. I'm currently up to Bash at the Beach 2000, literally watching it as I type this. 2000 was not the best time for WCW.

Don't have much to add except this sucks. Ownership is important, consumer rights are important, fair pricing is important, and game preservation is important.

I'm currently dabbling in 3 games:

-Halo: Campaign Evolved (Xbox Series X)
-Risen Remake (Xbox Series X)
-Ys Memoire: Oath in Felghana (PS5)

And I just finished one of my all-time favorites again: King's Field: The Ancient City (PS2)

Great for me! It makes the games cheap and easily obtainable, most of the time. And the hardware is solid, plus it's backwards compatibility not only works great but also improves many games performance and graphics. So I have no complaints. In fact, my Series X is my main console for the current-gen; my PS5 and Switch are just for exclusives.

Some recent additions to my collection

-Altered Beast (Genesis)
-Halo: Campaign Evolved (XBox Series X)
-Mega Man 2 & 3 (NES)
-Power Wash Simulator 2 (Xbox Series X)
-Resident Evil 9: Requiem (Xbox Series X)
-Risen Remake (Xbox Series X)
-Solar Eclipse (Saturn)
-Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (Game Gear)
-Spider-Man (PS1) - I already have it on Dreamcast, but got a PS1 copy to install on my Polymega.
-Star Trek: The Next Generation (Genesis)
-Street Fighter 30th Anniversary Collection (Xbox One)
-Vectorman 1 & 2 (Genesis)
-Ys Memoire: Oath in Felghana (PS5)

And I just ordered the The Best of Classic Game Room Laser Hyper Vision Blu-Ray Album Set (yes, that is the actual name of it). It's a 4-disc collection of episodes, of the documentary, and various extras.

I'm currently backing up my entire physical movie collection to hard drive, so that's gonna be a great addition. And I can run them using my PC as a personal server and have my own personal streaming service.

I'm having a hard time being excited for Halo. This will be the 4th time buying the same game. 1. Original Xbox, 2. Halo Anniversary Xbox 360 3. Halo Master Chief Collection XBox One... How much can they squeeze from one game?!

TMNT Last Ronin and RE Veronica are my big take-aways from this. I hope they do both right. I have confidence in RE Veronica, I just hope they don't cut content like in the RE2 and RE3 remakes. (And here's to hoping we get a RE Zero remake one day.)

Picked up my copy of the Gothic remake today, just sitting down to try it out.

Holy Hell this game is hard! I never played the original. Even the NPCs will beat and rob you for talking to them wrong and shake you down just for walking by.
