Hardware and Tech / Re: Need help with Dreamcast.

There is technically no "recalibrating" the potentiometer.  What it amounts to is lowering the threshold on the laser.  What this will do is allow you to play your games but will burn out the laser far quicker.  When you make these kind of adjustment you must do so in very small increments.  Larger turns will just render the unit unusable.

The laser is going bad.  Mine has the very same issue.  They can be purchased from Ebay for around $25.

25 for the laser replacement itself or another dreamcast?

Hope you guys know of a fix. Dreamcast is having problems reading games now. Before it would only have problems with Sonic Adventure and Tony Hawk 2 but now when ever I pop in a game, a sega logo corp logo come out and then it goes right back to the disc menu. It does this now to all my games. Tried looking for a fix to recalibrate the laser but the i can't turn the little nob and its a different model then what I've seen online. Anyway I can savage this thing or should I just get a new one and get rid of this paper weight?

I bought it brand new, way back in the day for like $30.00 on clearance.  I don't understand how this game got to be so rare.  There are other games that are rarer than Earthbound, but don't command the same kind of prices.  I hope the prices go down, so that everyone can experience this great game.

Like myself. I don't feel like paying a new console price for an old game.

Great set of ammendmants for collectors lol. I just want to add along the port rule and physical copy like the releases of classic games ie dreamcast collection and saturn games that have been showing up on xbla or psn, it feels more satisfying to have the original copies.

I had something like this w/ my xbox 360 slim last year where the dvd drive kept messing up and would not read my disc. Probably is a security issue and recommend going to a repair shop and getting it replaced. The repair shop I went to locally was about 80 bucks to replace the drive.

First game ever huh? A little foggy on that one but I know for sure it was on the atari 2600 and I think it was either haunted house or Indy 500.
