Modern Video Games / Re: Where do you draw the line? New Game Prices
« on: February 28, 2024, 05:24:35 pm »
For a collectors edition, I can see that. $150 for a standard edition though? I don’t think they would get too many sales. Maybe they’re gonna play on the gamepass model possibly get a kickback per download? If you want the physical copy, pay the premium? IDK.

I remember SF2 and RPG’s being $84.99 on SNES. The PlayStation brought disc based games down to $39.99. PS2 went up to $49.99. 360/PS3 hung around $49.99. Xbone/PS4 went to $59,99.
This gen is $69.99.  I can’t see the AAA games more than doubling the current price.

Modern Video Games / Re: What are your thoughts on Simulator Games?

I played the power wash sim. There is a certain level of odd satisfaction I get by watching the YouTube vids of power washing. This game just gave me some bad anxiety though. It goes sooooo much slower than in real life. The various angles you need to hit and constant nozzle switching seemed to irritate me.

Anyone else had that? You got obsessed with something specific from a band, maybe a song or one album, and you just never realized they had a bunch of other great stuff till later on? I often have the thing where I'll get hooked on a single song or two, but the rest of the band's output does little for me and that's just how it stays, but never have I just been like "Oh, there's like 4 sick albums I just never got into for no real reason" lol

I use to buy CD’s and just listen to the few songs that got on the air. I find myself just playing the whole album now. So much good songs I skipped over throughout the years!!!

I don’t like them personally. It seams like a FOMO cash grab.
I’ve put off buying a lot of the collectors editions all together, because I don’t think every game made needs one.
The last one I bought was R-Type on Xbox. Pretty lazy on the packaging too!! You get a green sticker that says Xbox version lol.
Before that, I bought the Metal Gear Solid gun grey bundle PS3 from Konami and the survival edition Fallout from Amazon.

At this point, no. I'd rather put the effort into collecting new items than replacing older ones. With that said, I don't actively seek out reprint releases. The few I do have were purchased long ago when I starting acquiring games casually.

Same here

Stuff like Mortal Kombat didn’t come out until I was in high school. No worries on the video games.

My mom started taking me to rated R movies when I was in the 3rd or 4th grade. Mostly horror or sci-fi (Aliens, Creepshow, Friday the 13th etc.).

For some reason I wasn’t allowed to hear music with cussing though. Had to hide the 2 Live crew and Eazy E cassettes back in junior high lol. That Sony Walkman used up a crap load of AA batteries.

A friend of my back in the day had a small tv and no PlayStation.

He would go to Walmart to “rent” a PlayStation and a 27” tv.
Rentals there were free and would last 2 weeks lol.

The games were legit rented from blockbuster, since opened games couldn’t be returned.

General / Re: What do you do with price tag stickers and receipts?
« on: February 28, 2022, 09:08:26 pm »
I only save the receipts if it shows the title of the game on it.
If it just says Xbox 19.99 etc., it goes in the recycle bin.

I use to put the receipt in the jewel case with the games until it bled through to the instruction manual one time. They go in a box now.

I played through Fox Hunt and Braindead 13 back in the day. The disc swapping gets old fast.
The games were playable though. Had some good laughs.

I used to buy cds off of second spin, but they’re gone now.
I’m still looking for another used cd place with a similar format.

Ebay and Amazon are the only online stores I currently use for media.
I go to Bestbuy for games and Blu rays, but they got rid of their music.

The only one that comes to mind is Magical Chase. I would have a complete boxed Turbo set if it wasn’t for that game. The only way I could justify dropping that cash, would be to sell off some of my collection.
Once that money was in hand though, I would probably have a difficult time spending it on one game. It would be easier if it were a direct trade, games for game.
Maybe one day...

For me it’s gotta be SNES and Turbo Duo games.
I had started working full time around when PlayStation was released. I focused mainly on those and passed on the majority of the $5 bargain games at just about every store that sold them.

Dead Rising 2 High Stakes Edition.
It’s packaged in a box that’s not even sealed, with the exact same copy of the standard game inside.
I took the game out and sold it, then repurchased another copy when it dropped to $15. Not too bad I guess.

Friday the 13th autographed Kickstarter. I think it was $150. The game kept getting delayed. When the game finally shipped, the autographed portion was a cardboard slip cover that was shipped separately.

The movies tend to last longer when stored vertical.
