I usually end up paying $60 for new releases as long as they aren't digital. Especially Nintendo games, they stay $55 used for years so it isn't worth waiting in my eyes. Also some of the anime style games I play can often get a bit hard to track down and can be pricey still. I'll wait though if I think I can get away with it. I'm waiting on KH3 to price drop before I get it. Also with used games you always run the chance of bootleg copies, especially with carts.

Off Topic / Re: Cost Of Living In Your Area And Upkeep?
« on: January 22, 2019, 01:19:03 pm »
I live in a Podunk town with little in it. I rent a small house (600 square ft) for $500 a month.  Sometimes you can hear gun shots in the distance. My issue isn't rent though, all the nicer, more expensive apartments are hidden away. I need to be able to walk places or at least bike. Luckily, I intend to move later this year to a more bike friendly city.

On the Denver thing though, yeah, it sounds insane there. My husband's parents moved there no longer than a couple months, but they were able to flip the house for a profit. People are desperate to get houses out there. They only left because his mom couldn't handle the cold.

General / Re: Your Favorite Fighting Game Currently
« on: December 24, 2018, 11:44:49 am »
Hmm, right now I'm playing a lot of Smash Ultimate. I just enjoy the experience more than the traditional fighters. Lots of single player content to enjoy and group battle make for plenty options. I also feel like I have the most control over Smash characters since there's no complex comboing.

However some honorable mentions of games I've played and liked:
Naruto Ultimate Ninja 2
The Zatch Bell Fighters
Blaz Blue Cross Tag Battle (switch)
Street Fighter 2 (SNES)

I do believe Nintendo games still tend to be compressed. It's how they fit on the little chips and why many other companies struggle to fit their games on even Blu ray discs (>_> Spyro).

I think compression needs to come back though so we don't have to download our disc based games of the net.

I've played a few with varying level of success:

Top shop, Tanto Cuore, Agricola, Monopoly, Pac-man fever, and Animal Crossing: Amiibo Festival.

They're generally fine to me so long as the controls are serviceable. >_> Snes Monopoly was unplayable I felt like.

I'm pro M rated games for children, some supervision and talking should come with that territory though, and that's okay. I'm actually far more concerned by cartoon violence. I think it paints a very unrealistic view of the consequences of violence to young children. Blood comes out of wounds and they need to know that.

I honestly keep saying the new age rating system should be based on difficulty of the game and the skills necessary to play it. I get calls from relatives all the time near holiday season asking about games easy enough for their younger children because many E games require high level reading or math skills, but don't always point that out. This is also something I'd care about with my own children more than the morality rating since I can't even tell the diff between E and T. And I oft think most M titles should be T. My S.O. agrees with this too. So, it just doesn't matter much to us. The ESRB rating feel broken.

As for AO games. I own a few Visual novels in this category and have played even more of them(porn, both Hentai and BL). I quite enjoy the experience. However these were only for porn. I can't say I know of any games rated AO for violence or gore. However, I do remember Animamundi was censored for sale in NA because of the gore so maybe that uncensored is AO? Kinda pitiful though. It's just a headless girl.

I have no issue with youth games either so long as it's a good game.

Modern Video Games / Re: Opinions on paying for online play?
« on: August 07, 2018, 11:46:49 am »
I honestly hope Nintendo uses the money to improve the infrastructure of their games because I adore Splatoon 2, but man does it run like garbage to this day with lots of disconnecting players, needing hacker detection, and lag. Such lag. Not lag on me, just sometimes I encounter very laggy matches if the host is laggy.

Modern Video Games / Re: What upcoming games are you REALLY excited for?

I've pre-ordered my LE for Little Dragon Cafe so I'm stoked for that. I'm also stoked for the final mix of TWEWY. It's was my hands down favorite DS game and is near and dear to my heart.

Other hype games:
-Super Mario Party
-KH III
-Spyro Reignited Trilogy

A lot of games I want only have like 1 or 2 copies per store on launch day so I tend to pre-order.

I also like to avoid buying online when possible because the last time I bought a game online was P4 Golden used. Someone had sticker swapped it with a cheap Harry Potter game and I had to go through the pains of getting an exchange. You couldn't even tell by looking at the cart.

I am also a huge culprit of Kashell's only copy on day one problem when I get things like Project Diva, VNs, and obscure JRPGs.

I believe my skills in tabletop gaming came from always playing against experienced adults and learning what they did to win. Now I can crush people in my peer groups. Video games are likely the same way. Those kids will learn from their losses and grow faster than their peers who were handed easy wins. You do no one any favors by letting them win. Kids these days also really need to learn sportsmanship and being a good loser which doesn't get enough emphasis these days. I hate when someone my age even loses and throws a tantrum.

Conclusion: Whip their ass and then explain to them what they did wrong and how they can adapt their strategies. It's what I would want others to do for my children and it's what I would to to other's children. You learn when you lose and not when you win.

I don't understand your post too well, but if you want general board game collection tracking use Board game geek. They're superb.

Hmm... I'm not too diverse. My fiance and I have the same hobbies mostly so our purchases look something like this list.

Soft drinks
candy
TRPG books, minis, etc.
Board Games/Card games
Anime/Manga&merch

I'd want to build a new gaming PC if that's an allowed choice. My PC can't run as many titles as it did 4 years ago. It wasn't a bleeding edge PC even then. Then I'd pre-order all the new games I want this year lol. Then! Amiibos!
