I hate to necropost but I'd love to see a VGCollect app on the iOS store.

Site Feedback / Game notes not updating in Finished list
« on: December 04, 2022, 02:38:03 am »
I was going through and editing the notes portion of my finished games to include relevant information such as the difficulty beaten, extras unlocked, etc. Unfortunately, these are not saving. Now, don't get me wrong there can always be a level of human error, but I'm certain I hit submit  ;D

Anyone else experiencing this issue?

Same thing that happened to Dead Rising apparently. Now with Resident Evil Re:Verse, it's kinda thrown all of the previously mentioned sci-fi corporate experiment gone wrong type deal. Now it's deathmatch and feels like a worse version of Doom Eternal's online mode.

I watched a video and *spoilers*, when you die you end up turning into a zombie and then Nemesis... and there's like three Nemesis' (idk the plural) in one hallway.

Like what???

This game series actually used to have a crazy atmosphere. I remember playing RE1 on the GamCube and legitimately being unnerved creeping around the Spencer Mansion (granted it was at night, still). They fast n furious'd it by axing everything good and making it about action. Remember when you watched helplessly as Neptune killed your ally in RE1? Replace it with Leon dueling Ustanak or whatever on the rooftop. Sure, the foe is much larger and arguably deadlier, but gone are the clever machinations of our protagonists trying to survive and outrun DOOM.

This is more along the lines of speedrunning, but Summoning Salt has fantastic videos on all sorts of different runs and concepts. From Castlevania world records to the human limit of Super Mario Bros. (NES), there's quite a few interesting videos on their channel that I'd say are relatively entertaining. It's worth noting too that the speedrun videos aren't just a countdown of the records, but rather a progression of their shortening over the years and the history behind the runs.

General / What is your favorite menu theme?
« on: October 15, 2022, 02:11:46 am »
When it comes to what sets the mood and makes a game a game, there's a whole slew of different elements that ultimately make up the experience that is, well, the game. One of these elements I don't hear a lot about is the menu music. From Super Smash Bros. various menu tracks to Deus Ex, there's quite a variety of scores that draw the player in or hype them up.

What are your preferences?

Personally, it feels odd calling anything before 7th gen retro. However, I have been playing some stuff that can be considered retro. Just beat FF3 and 4 along with extra grinding including the superbosses (yeah it's the psp port of 3 and 4 but it's basically the same game). Given that I'm awake and September has ended, I think it's time to get in the October mood with some Castlevania! Maybe I'll finally get around to beating III and Dissonance...

So, yeah. It's not that hard now with the various collections and mid online packages offered by the main companies. Not to mention the forbidden E word...

I hope one day to maybe own copies of these games but highly doubt it...

disclaimer: I'm aware Ebay is not the cream of the crop for buying (retro) games. I'm just using it as an easy reference.

LSD: Dream Emulator

As of this posting it's $600-$1100 on Ebay. Given that it will be a bit before I'm free to just make purchases like that, I'm sure with the game not getting any less rare and rising inflation I just can't justify spending that much on a singular game. As cool as it may be, I don't know if its 1g cool  :P

Pokemon Colosseum Pre-Order Bonus Disc

I've seen a few of these online at a few hundred on the low end. I'm a big fan of the 6th generation but just can't justify that much.

Persona 3 Collector's Edition

LSD DR wasn't bad enough so I wanted to include a game that could be considered financial harm. My lazy Ebay search yielded two results, a CIB opened copy at $500 and an sealed copy priced at $19,999.00 (with $20 shipping). Now, personally this isn't a game I feel I need a sealed copy of, but even $500 is a decent chunk to drop on a game that's only 16 years old. Even if it's an import P3 CE is still more than Path of Radiance.

If it were a game I REALLY liked, I'd do all.

Most of the time though, I try to go for at least a mid level limited edition or something.

I make exceptions for regional differences i.e. tetra trackers in 4 Swords Adventures (JP). Technically not a different "edition" but either way it's still a dupe in the collection.

We already have the forums. I see no point in creating a Discord.

Seconded. It would move communication to another medium and disincentivize forum posting. Not to mention whether or not people would actually use the voice chat which is a large portion of it to begin with.

Classic Video Games / Re: What is the hardest RPG you Ever Completed?
« on: April 03, 2022, 02:50:00 am »
Shin Megami Tensei III: Nocturne. Spoilers ahead.

I beat it on hard. It was one heck of a time, from the Matador to Mot, cheapness struck, but I prevailed with determination and the fact that it was NG+ ;D
First playthrough was on normal, and it still wasn't easy. Hard definitely still made it difficult to get the ball rolling, but eventually I got money to summon in demons, slowly but surely.
I got the True Demon Ending and my final party included Metatron, Dante, and Trumpeter.

Overall, the game was a solid challenge, given the fact that bosses can do this... https://youtu.be/rhDIDWh84-s, I'd say it's a fair contender for the hardest RPG I've beaten and a difficult game in general.

I have 41 dupes myself unfortunately... like owning Ninja Gaiden Sigma and the Collector's Edition, NGS2 and 3 on PS3, and then getting the master collection on steam. I also own DMC HD Collection, the 3 pack on ps2 and dmc1 on Switch. The list goes on, I just don't have the heart to throw my gamestop NGS1/2 copies away.

That being said, there's also owning dupes because you like said game. I have some japanese versions of some games, so while still technically "dupes", some offer extra content like 4 Swords on GameCube.

Then there's owning dupes because two different game services offered them free for a limited time ;D

1. Get over 600 games. While I technically own over 600, I have about 20 dupes or so from owning physical and digital copies.

2. Beat currently unfinished games I'm playing such as the FF7 remake and Persona 5 Royale. Maybe even Persona 3 as well.

3. Play more of my backlog and try to get some more perfect games (all achievements) on Steam.

Classic Video Games / Re: Your Thoughts On Modding And Pirated Software
« on: December 22, 2021, 02:48:21 pm »

This little square right here was my childhood. It's the reason I got to play the other two DSVanias, Megaman ZX + Advent, Age of Empires: Mythologies, so on and so forth. While not legal (especially during the DS Lifetime), it enabled me to enjoy a lot of games I wouldn't have otherwise. Hell, there's working NES, SNES, and Genesis emulators made to run on it. While one could argue it's not right, I'm not going to deny how much I benefited from the invention of this technology.

Task manager > Right click > Set Priority > High

Disable all startup apps in the Startup tab in Task Manager.
Update drivers.
Get a Solid State Drive (SSD) if Windows is on a Hard Drive (HDD) currently.
If you're on a tower, overclock. Just go to youtube and type in your motherboard or CPU model and search overclock with it.
If you're on a gaming laptop, download the brand name software as they often have "tuning" options.

Last, but certainly not least, get new hardware. Games like DOOM Eternal, Final Fantasy XV, and Nier Replicant all recommend on Steam 6GB graphics cards or above. Make sure your CPU isn't the bottleneck either. Glad to hear you have 16GB of ram.

Favorite 2021 Release: Shin Megami Tensei III: Nocturne HD Remaster. I played the crap out of this, fused most of the high level demons, got the True Ending and beat it a few more times. A solid JRPG for sure.

Least Favorite 2021 Release: Probably Ninja Gaiden master collection, while nice, I was dumb enough to buy them even though I already own all of them and their better versions (minus Razor's edge)

Favorite Game Played in 2021: SMT 3 HD by far, I sunk the most amount of hours this year (so far) into that game and it paid off.

Least Favorite Game Played in 2021: Spy fox: Cheese chase

Sleeper Hit of 2021: Dont know if this counts because it wasn't released then but Persona 5 Royal. I had played through a bit of the original and wasn't super interested, but came back to Royal and am having a blast!

Favorite Gaming Moment in 2021: Played through Serious Sam 4 because I love those games, and hearing Damjan's new mix of the Grand Cathedral them from Serious Sam 2: The second encounter was a godsend. I'd highly recommend listening to it.

Either that or beating Wolfenstein: New Order and Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus on their hardest difficulties (Über and I am Death Incarnate!). Quite the challenge.

Proudest Collection Accomplishment of 2021: Probably the coolest thing I bought this year was my japanese limited edition copy of Asura's Wrath with all of the goodies inside. That, or probably hitting 500+ games and almost being at 600!
