Let's Talk About Your On Site Collection Status
« on: April 01, 2022, 09:39:39 am »
ok you probably don't know what I'm talking about or? what this is going to be about at this point?

Let's talk about your Backlog, your Currently Played Status, as Well as Your On Site Wish Lists, and your Finished list. I'll post mine to start out this thread,

My current untouched games/backlog of my collection I know nothing or little about these games or I have not made it off the first 5 levels yet
https://vgcollect.com/backlog/oldgamerz

My current finished meaning I played these games before and pretty much know what they are about already.
https://vgcollect.com/finished/oldgamerz

My Currently playing or played before list this includes games I have played before but mostly not beaten for the most part OR games have beaten but have not put them down yet
https://vgcollect.com/currentlyplaying/oldgamerz

WISH LIST? I WANT EVERYTHING ;D

I wanted us to first make our lists in our collection status than talk about what we played and have not got around to playing and maybe some of us could recommend playing a game to someone even me, that has listed in their collection or wish list and talk about that game and maybe get hyped about actually playing that said game another has played and recommends :-\

I’m not going to make lists on the site because I just don’t have the time to keep up with them, but I can discuss my backlog because right now is the biggest backlog I can recall having for probably DECADES. I just turned 46 and it’s actually a really exciting time in gaming for me, because I’m learning so much about particular games, series, and genres that I had either ignored or been ignorant of.

As for backlog, I’ve been playing through the entire Mass Effect Legendary Edition for the last 2 months, so I had to put Tales of Arise on hold. And before that, I put the latest DLC for Blasphemous on hold to play Tales of Arise. So when I’m done with Mass Effect, I need to get back to those 2 games. In addition, I still need to go back and finish Timespinner and Sonic Mania, and I’ve barely touched Momodora. I want to try to get back into Nier Automata (which frankly bored me, but I want to give it another try). Also, in addition to all that, I still have not even tried all the games on my Coregrafx Mini, mainly because (tying into what I said before about discovering new genres) I was floored by games like Lords of Thunder, Soldier Blade, and Seirei Senshi Spriggan, which showed me what shmups could truly be after mainly playing Gradius and Life Force my whole life, which weren’t my cup of tea…badass soundtracks, screen-filling weapons…damn I wish I had known about these TG-16 shooters 30 years ago.
PLUS, I’m still discovering new Genesis games after I got Sonic’s Genesis Collection for PS3 (Golden Axe 3 isn’t as bad as I thought it was), AND I’m motivated to go back and play Lunar 2 Complete, which I never finished.
WHEW, that’s a lot of backlog, and that’s still not everything :)

As for my wishlist:
I’m looking forward to TMNT Cowabunga Collection and Chrono Cross Radical Dreamers Edition. I want to get Horizon Forbidden West at some point. I really want to play the upcoming Metroidvania The Last Faith. Also, after Dragon Quest XI blew my mind and became maybe my second favorite RPG ever, I’ve wanted to go back and play some of the entries I missed, but the DS/3DS games are SO flippin’ expensive I might have to cave and resort to emulation until Square Enix wises up and releases some kind of compilation of DQ4-6 for modern consoles (like they did with DQ1-3 on Switch)

We've already got (relatively active, for here anyway) threads for most of this:

Currently Playing

Recently Finished
https://vgcollect.com/forum/index.php/topic,322.1455.html

Though it has mostly been supplanted by the 52 Games Challenge

Wish List
https://vgcollect.com/forum/index.php/topic,4141.420.html

Backlog - This is the oldest one, and hasn't had a reply in a year or so.

EDIT: I'm not trying to stifle discussion on this, but it would probably be better to split these amongst more narrow topics, that we already have.

I feel like there are already multiple threads addressing these questions, however I'll use this thread to give a general update on me as a gamer/collector.

At the moment my wife and I are playing co-op on Kirby and the Forgotten Land off and on between getting stuff together for moving. Speaking of moving, my wife and I bought a house and we're scheduled to close and move the beginning of May. As a result I haven't really been playing much else or getting started on any new games for the most part. I have been playing Gran Turismo 7 off and on too, but just when I need to take a break from work or packing.

As for collecting, this has been going pretty slow too, mostly from me trying to have enough money to cover all my moving expenses and closing costs. I did decide to spoil myself after making a decent amount of money at a local swap meet and bought some CIB SNES games I've wanted for a while that another collector brought. But other than this I've been very deliberate in not picking up lots of games. I'm hoping my rate of collecting and playing will increase dramatically sometime in May or June after I've settled into my new house.

My backlog is impossibly long and I'm not even going to get into all the games in it. I have a "wishlist" of games I'm hoping to beat before the end of the year in the 52 Games Challenge thread. Those games reflect a very small portion of my backlog.

Eh, I don't have much on a couple lists. I only started using the Finished and Playing lists this year. Here's where I'm at:

Playing:
 - AC Valhalla (PS5) -- Trying to finish it
 - Destiny (PS5) -- Latest expansion
 - Uncharted Collection (PS5) -- Off and on

Finished in 2022:
 - Guardians of the Galaxy (PS5)
 - Mass Effect Legendary Edition (PS4) -- Took most of last year as well.
 - Mass Effect Andromeda (PS4)

Wish List: -- Has anything from PS1 to not yet released.

I don't really use this site to track my backlog, played games or games that I'm currently playing, I do that elsewhere, I mostly use this site to track what I own and what's on my wishlist, that said, there are some games that I'm currently playing an some that I abandoned but I plan to go back to sooner or later. I think the games that are the highest priority for me to beat right now are Advance Wars 2 and Klonoa: Door to Phantomile, then there's Daxter and Alwa's Awakening, and a NitW fangame, after that I should go back and try to beat Arkham Origins, Skyrim and Psychonauts, maybe start God of War Ascension and Realms of Chaos, and sadly have to restart Joy Mech Fight and Bucky O'Hare because I lost my saves.

I don't use the on-site lists for tracking games playing and beaten.

However, I do use this site for tracking physical owned games and digital games in a limited capacity. Lately I've been cutting down on what I have, really trying to only hold onto things I actually want to keep and getting games I like or hope I'll like. I haven't been buying many games lately since retro games are so so expensive now, most of the ones I wanted are unaffordable for me now. Which is kinda nice since it means less money to spend... or it just means it'll be wasted on other junk lol
I do also use its wishlist feature. Though sometimes I forget what I have in said wishlist and accidentally dupe what's already in it, or I directly add a game to what I own instead of moving from the wishlist since I forgot about it lol.

That our forums preserve all discussions while simultaneously offering a search tool was a decision made with reason. This isn't to suggest that similar or even the same discussions can't be introduced multiple times, but the alternative discussions listed above are all mostly popular threads and active with updates.

Also, I want people to talk about this stuff, but if someone is looking for engagement, they should reply in the existing threads that people are already, and relatively regularly, engaging with.  Smashing 6 different topics into a single thread is a way to make sure that everything gets swallowed up and not really discussed at all.
