Sony shuts down Bluepoint

WTF? I'm a bit late to this news but just saw it and can't believe it. I assumed they would be co-developing the God of War remake trilogy.

It's sad to see how inept Sony is.

They released two remakes, Shadow of the Colossus and Demon's Souls which both have over a 90 on Metacritic. After the release of Demon's Souls (PS5 launch title) they assisted with God of War Ragnarök and were developing a live service God of War game that was cancelled early last year.

How does Sony have nothing for them? They could be remastering games, remaking a beloved classic, supporting another studio.. this is ridiculous.

I wonder where this leaves Media Molecule. Their last release is Dreams, something that should have been a huge hit under a capable publisher. They want so desperately to compete in live service yet threw Dreams under the bus when it could serve as a higher quality version of Roblox. In 2026 games are still being made for Dreams and going viral but Sony couldn't be bothered to put it on PS5 or PC.

Check out Trip's Voyage and Banjo-Kazooie: Mumbomania to see what Dreams can do.

Here's a Crash Bandicoot level made in Dreams this week: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I2nN3o4PY68

Will Bend Studio be closed next? They had a live service game cancelled around the same time.

Will Firesprite release another game? Their take on Twisted Metal was cancelled.

There's also Valkyrie Entertainment which seems like a pretty under the radar team, if they can shut down a notable team what about this one?

Haven seems like it will be allowed to at least release Fairgame$ before they get shutdown weeks after.

I never played the Demon Souls remake, but did really enjoy Shadow of the Colossus. It's too bad we'll never get to see them work their magic on other classic Sony titles.

BluePoint did an incredible job bringing the Uncharted Trilogy from PS3 to PS4. Even improved the gameplay of the first by ridding us of motion control grenade throwing.

Yeah, modern Sony when it comes to how Playstation is being handled has been severely bad. PS5 is easily the worst Playstation generation. Each era has it's own issues with the exception of PS1 and to a point PS2, but PS5 is by far the worst non-handheld Playstation.

Whoever is calling the shots, be it a single person or a group, all need to be let go.

I didn't mention the remasters but I should have because their work bringing the original Titanfall to Xbox 360 was pretty remarkable too.

I really liked the Demon Souls remake (I know some folks had issues with it, I didn't), so I was hopeful they could move on to other stuff, maybe even something with Bloodborne after they were done supporting God of War, but then it was confirmed that they were working on a live service God of War game that got canceled, I was really disappointed.  To then do that to them, just to kill the company after basically doing nothing other than some support work of God of War: Ragnarok is so scummy.
