What system has your favorite game artwork?
« on: January 23, 2013, 12:04:58 pm »
I have really been enjoying the Super Famicom artwork that I have been seeing. It is all nicely varied. But I also like how the N64 artwork is also done onto the sides of the boxes.

What is yours?

I really like the N64 boxes. But I also like layout and uniformity of the DS cases too, same goes for Konami's NES releases something about the silver box w/ the artwork framed by it just makes me smile ha.

Master system.... just kidding.

I really like the artwork of NES games. It reminds me a little of commodore 64 boxes (which was my first gaming experience). There was no big system stripe or logo for the most part. The red stripe up top came in the last year or so. The artwork went from the absurd and the misleading (mega man) to just some pretty cool art (manhatten project). There are also series of specific box art like the original black boxes.

for me it has to the odyssey 2 with the way it opens like a book and its unique sci-fi looking artwork

Good choice!

I always fall in love with the odyssey 2 logo on the boxes. They remind me of being a kid and going to this old vintage book store. They would have old sci fi pulp magazines from the 60s and I would just devour those. A great era for sci fi and the odyssey seems to tap into that.

I like the Black Box NES games. I like that they tried to get away from the Atari-style, misleading box art; and tried to show exactly what the game looked like.  It is perfect.

Not to be a snobby tool or anything, but the Aes games box artwork is so cool, not only is it huge but a lot of them arent like typical box art, for example the insert for KOF 98 looks more like a poster, it's all the characters at a party that folds around the entire box

NES games. They didn't have any required borders or annoying neon green Xbox logos on them. They were all artwork, and they were glorious. Often times the artwork was better than the game inside.

The black grid genesis games, those are amazing, they look really nice on your collection wall.

Not snobby at all. That is a good pick.

I like the Atari 2600 art style. For the most part, they are so far out there, and a lot of the time have little or nothing to do with the actual game.

I think I'm going to have to go with the NES artwork as well. Sure, the artwork might not have had anything to do with what you saw on the screen, but it was essential to grabbing your attention when looking to rent/purchase something. It got you pumped up about playing something before you even played it. It always helped my imagination as well.

I mean, take a look at this awesomeness. You know shit's about to get real when you see this:

Also, Konami totally killed it when it came to artwork for the NES. Best on average by far IMO.

Is it just me, or does the guy on the right look like an amputee?

I know it was brought up as a joke ... but I liked the SMS stuff. I could see that shit across a crowded mall and knew without a doubt it was an SMS game and where I was going to be headed!
