Freaking loved this game!

Challenging, addicting, and very pretty-looking vertical shoot-em up game. You earn stars that you can then use to upgrade your plane with better armor, weapons, add-ons, etc. Which is the addicting part that gets you hooked. You'll find yourself going back over and over again just to get that next set of upgrades.

Highly recommended for the shoot-em up fan!

Oh, and it's on XBox Game Pass, which is only $1 to subscribe for a month (deal is on through Black Friday).

It took almost 30 hours, but I finished Azure Dreams for the PlayStation. That game was fun, but it was enough to get me out of my PlayStation RPG mood. I'm definitely ready for something more modern next.

Goodness gracious. Utawerumono: Mask of Truth took a lot longer to finish than Mask of Deception. But, it's finished. Good stuff.

30. Shantae: Half-Genie Hero (Wii U)

Fantastic retro-style 2D platformer, as always from Shantae. Has a heavy emphasis on exploration, and a great sense of humor. Spot-on controls. A great sense of progression with the character and item upgrades. And some very nice-looking 2D sprite-work. And most of all, it's fun as hell.

I still like Shantae: The Pirate's Curse a bit more, though.

Finished Nier last night, game was pretty good.  Mildly enjoyed it, only went so far to get the A Ending, might go back and get the other endings down the line.

Secret of Evermore has been finished. I'm glad I played it. I'll never play it again and I doubt I'll never stop comparing it to Secret of Mana. But, I'm happy that I got to show the SNES some love this year with a game I never played before.

30. Shantae: Half-Genie Hero (Wii U)

31. Mega Man 2 (XBox One- via Mega Man Legacy Collection)

Best in the main Mega Man series (I still enjoy the Legends games more, though). Perfect NES music. Well designed stages. Difficulty not so hard as the original. And more eye-popping graphics than the original, while keeping the same feel. This is 8-bit Mega Man perfection!

I've got to say, though, that the emulation did have some issues here or there. There were a few places where the music wasn't quite right. And I remember one part where Mega Man is supposed to be sort of transparent, like a ghost, and it didn't like that. (Though the transparent thing was in Mega Man 3, not 2.) Not game breaking or anything, but you'd think in 2017, that issues like this would no longer be a problem.

Fun game, and highly recommended for the few 2D platformer fans that haven't played it.

32. Final Fight: Double Impact (XBox 360)

It's just a straight port of the arcade version of Final Fight, with a few emulator bonuses like filters and save states.

But it's still one of my favorite arcade games from my childhood. This was a machine I played frequently. So it was a fun trip down memory lane.

Great controls and 2D graphics from Capcom, and like most Capcom games of this era: fantastic music.

My only complaint: People can just jump into your game from online. That bugged me a bit. I didn't want help, so I had to back out and start the level over again.

Love this game, so much. This expansion, though, was just kind of meh. Not great, not bad. But killed some more time.

It just felt a little underwhelming after waiting so long for it. I finished it in just a couple of afternoons. The motorcycle "Divine Beast" you gain, is really cool. But it's also kind of pointless since you get it at the very end of the last DLC for the game. Not gonna really use it much.

Still, it's Breath of the Wild, and still, it was cool to revisit the world and explore a little more.

Sherlock Holmes: The Devil's Daughter.

Almost gave up on this, the series has always been janky but for reason they added crappy action bits and stealth. For a small studio they shouldn't be shoving these things into a detective/puzzle games when they can't do them well.

The game does the cases well and really liked the last chapter, shame about all the crap they try to add to make it appeal to the gamer that hates the puzzle/detective bits, go and play an action game. Anyway I found this game on one popular game tracker on http://invites-shop.com/en/category/popular/ so now I can focus on something more interesting.

6/10

I've had a tradition since Metroid Prime came to complete it every year during "Christmas Break." I don't get much of a break these days, but the holidays just don't feel complete without it.

I changed things up this year though and played, and finished Super Metroid... for the FIRST TIME. What trip! several nights I was up until the sun came up (that is saying something for December in the Northern Hemisphere). I have new appreciation for the SNES controller, though I still think it looks meh.

I've finished Prime, Metroid (NES), Metroid II, Fusion, and Samus Returns, but I'm thinking I might have to expand my tradition to playing a new Metroid each winter until I circle back around. Zero Mission in 360 days, and counting.
