Konami vs. Capcom, Who Do You Prefer?

Two of my favorite game publishers of all time! When it comes to retro-gaming, these 2 publishers are the kings of third-party publishers, IMO.

So I was curious to see which of these two publishers do you prefer?

That's a tough one, though I would go with Capcom, thanks to Street Fighter.

Capcom for fighters and shooters and Konami for everything else!

I pick Konami. Snatcher/Policenauts, Simpsons/Turtles/Sunset Riders/X-Men, Contra, Castlevania, Zone of Enders, Silent Hill, Metal Gear. All classic.

And to a kind of pseudo level... Zombies Ate My Neighbors.

Plus, I'm not a huge fan of Street Fighter and Mega Man. And those are the two big Capcom franchises.

Konami.... gets the win for having Castlevania, Metal Gear and Gradius. The Contras, TMNTs, etc are icing on the cake.

Don't get me wrong. I loved Mega Man, 1943, Bionic Commando and such. But Konami seems to be more "with it" currently, while Capcom is looking more and more like a bunch of retards.

Konami made Contra, right?  Contra's the greatest series ever, right? (You could argue, but you'd be wrong) Therefore, buy logic, Konami is the greatest ever. Contra, Castlevania, the TMNT arcade games, The Simpsons Arcade, X-Men Arcade; I think I'm stuck in the early 90's, but Konami is awesome.
Capcom did make Street Fighter and Megaman, two more of my favorites, but they don't compare.

I love both game publishers. Both are the kings of the third-party publishers, IMO.

But Capcom wins it for me, barely. The Resident Evil series and Bionic Commando just put them over the top, for me.

And I can't believe I forgot Sunset Riders on my Konami list. That is my 3rd most wanted game on my wishlist after Mega Man Legends 2 and Duck Tales 2 (NES).

Very tough choice and I've thought about this several times.

Resident Evil is one of my favorite series (even though the newer games are subpar) and classic Mega Man is a large part of my childhood. They also have numerous awesome one-off games and just a larger catalog that I personally can appreciate. Lately Capcom doesn't really seem to know what they're doing sometimes as well.

Konami, I feel, is quality over quantity in that regards in that there are less of their games and series I tend to like, but I love them much more (Castlevania in particular) and in large part Konami has been getting better while Capcom has been lowering in quality.

Still, Capcom is/was more consistent I feel so I'm going to tentatively say I prefer them, especially NES and SNES generation Capcom.

For me it's quite simple and biased. Konami. They made Gyruss, which is my favorite game of all time. Plus they made Snatcher, Contra and Castlevania. Besides, Capcom is a pretty bad company today. Though I did enjoy 1943 and Street Fighter.

Both Konami and Capcom are barely even shadows of their former selves anymore. In the 7th gen both of them were systematically destroying what made both of them awesome.

So... neither, they both suck.


If we go by their older games, I'd go with Capcom, though Konami does have a lot of excellent games. It's a fairly close match.

Logically, I want to say Capcom for Mega Man, Street Fighter and Resident Evil.  Emotionally, I want to say Konami for Castlevania, Contra, Gradius and Metal Gear.  Both were great publishers in the 8/16 bit eras, but are shadows of their former selves.  Capcom definitely has the stronger presence today, so overall I'd say Capcom.

I was sure I was going to pick Capcom but I have to go with Konami. A great question and it was a lot harder than I thought it was going to be.
