Just beat Episode Prompto for Final Fantasy XV and unfortunately it's not very good. I gave the main game a lot of leeway, as it's a game with a lot of troubling problems in it, but I could look past it's faults because I really dug the main guys and Ardyn and I liked it despite the problems. I can't be so forgiving of content released months after the games release. Episode Gladio was competent, but bad because it was just a gauntlet run to the boss, which was the only good element as that boss fight was great. Incredibly short too, which was both a good and bad thing depending on how you look at it.
Prompto on the other hand is a bigger experience, offering more unique aspects, but I think it missed the point. I was hoping the Episodes were gonna offer more depth to the story or just new details in general and really give us something we haven't seen with the characters, but we get none of that here. I won't spoil any specifics, but while it has a few good fights and the open area to explore is kinda fun, I don't learn anything new about Prompto, or the Empire, or truly everything that happened to Prompto while he was gone. It might also have the worst boss fight in the entire game in both premise and execution. I think the only worse final boss I've fought in something recently was the one from Shadow of Mordor lol
It's really undercut any hype I might have for Episode Ignis in December. 6 months away, it's got less interesting story potential than Prompto, and while there is a part of me that likes playing as just these characters with new gameplay elements, if there story isn't there, it's hard to draw me in fully.
