Thanks to Disgaeniac, I decided on buying Project Diva F when I saw it this week-end. I'm enjoying a little too much the fact that I can now understand the menus (I downloaded and tried the Japanese version on my PSP), and customizing the rooms and characters. And of course, the rhythm game. And watching the videos. I just want to play instead of doing my homework  :'(

Pretty addicting; huh?  :-[

did you get/look at that special controller for it?

Giving Condemned: Criminal Origins another go between sessions of Nier. (Never got past the second stage on my last playthrough.) I really like the atmosphere in the former, even if the scares are fairly predictable, but I just cannot get used to the controls. The camera is so sensitive, too.

My PS2 is also now officially dead, so I can1t touch a decent chunk of my game library for a while. :'(

I played some Killer is Dead the other night but not sure if I'm up for more of that one right now - that game is W-E-I-R-D.   :o  I kinda wanted a short-ish action game to break up all the RPG's I've been playing.  Glancing over my collection, here are some others I might be up for - can anyone vouch for any of these?

The Darkness II
Deus Ex: Human Revolution Director's Cut (played around half of the non-DC, kinda lost interest but was wanting to give the DC a go at some point)
Driver: San Francisco (started this way back when it first came out & remember enjoying what I played, but got sidetracked)
Enslaved (would be a replay, I've beaten it once)
Metal Gear Solid 3 HD (the only one of the main-series MGS games I haven't played)
Naruto: Ultimate Ninja Storm (I really like CyberConnect2's stuff, I'm about 1/4 through this one already)
Ratchet & Clank: Into the Nexus (the only one of the non-spinoff/portable R&C games I haven't played)
RE6 (finished Jake's story, half-way through Chris' - Chris' was not as good imo so I trailed off)
Warhammer 40k: Space Marine (another one I'm about half-way through, enjoyed what I played but got sidetracked)

That's a bummer to hear!

I played Condemned on the PC way back when and enjoyed it. The 2nd one I couldn't get into, but that was on PS3. Nier was a surprise to me! Way better than I expected.

I downloaded NES Remix 2. Damn, this is fun!  Maybe these will make their way onto a physical disc one day. I'd hate to see something this fun lost.

Since you're our 'official' Horror/Survival-Horror aficionado here - what are the following games about/like -and- (if you've played them), what did you think about them?!

- Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem on the Gamecube,

- Theresia on the DS,

- the Dementium games (also on the DS),

- the PS2 Fatal Frame games, and

- Rule of Rose also on the PS2.

Thanks, Dr. L  :)

R.I.P. :'( I love Nier far more than any well adjusted individual should. I'm really hoping that the rumors of a sequel are true. Haven't tried Condemned 2 yet, but I'll admit I don't have high expectations for it. Who knows? Maybe I'll like it.

Oh God. I have an unofficial title now? Let's hope I live up to it. :P

Eternal Darkness - A huge love letter to Lovecraft dealing with time-warping Elder Gods and the poor saps caught up in their games. Mostly remembered for its Sanity Meter, which affected both the player and the player character when things got too hairy. I'll probably get lynched for this, but I think it's rather overrated. Don't get me wrong - I still enjoy playing it every once in a while, and appreciate it for its innovation and unique approach to both scares and storytelling, but it just doesn't scare me at ALL. I also felt that there was a lot of missed potential when it came to character development. The soundtrack ROCKED, though. "Ram Dao" is my jam.

Theresia - Haven't played this one yet (my handheld library is admittedly rather lacking), but it's on my list of things to buy.

Dementium - Generic haunted asylum romp #2257. Both of them were kind of forgettable to me, though I thought the sequel was a huge improvement. Wasn't a fan of the controls either.

Fatal Frame - Japanese schoolgirls go into haunted villages / mansions and take pictures of ghosts. Adore these games, though they admittedly aren't my favorites in the genre. Hard to choose which one is my favorite of the series. Thought Crimson Butterfly was way too easy even on the harder difficulties, while The Tormented had one of the most unfair final boss fights this side of the Grotesquerie Queen from Drakengard.

Rule of Rose - A girl and her dog try to survive an orphanage stuffed with psychotic little girls. Also lots of prepubescent lesbian subtext. My thoughts: Ugh. Ughhh. Love its atmosphere, plot and characters, but that gameplay, man. THAT GAMEPLAY. It plays like a godawful bizarro version of Haunting Ground. (Oh wait, that's Clock Tower 3. :P) I think I finally gave up around the Mermaid boss, though I would like to give it another try someday.

This has been your daily dose of TL;DR.

I enjoyed Rule of Rose but I definitely understand the gameplay being kind of bad. I remember the controls being bad but that's about it. The atmosphere, story, characters, etc. were fantastic. Wish I had a copy. I played a downloaded version back in my younger days.

I think what frustrated me most about Rule of Rose was the completely broken hit detection. The controls were no help. It honestly plays like a beta.

Regardless, I can still understand why it has fans. It's absolutely gorgeous to look at, and probably has some of my favorite villains in gaming. I really dug the setting. If you can get past the atrocious combat system, I definitely think it's worth playing, but it just wasn't for me. I really should give it another try. After all, I am not one to talk when it comes to loving games with terrible gameplay. *coughDrakengardcough* :P

Glad I'm not the only one who's not "gaga" over Eternal Darkness.  I thought it was...ok.  But the "sanity effects" stuff was for the most part hokey and annoying, and I thought the ancient Alone In The Dark did a better job w/ the Lovecraft stuff in general.

I really dig me some survival horror too.  :)  REALLY looking forward to The Evil Within later this year, hope it lives up to the hype.

However hokey the sanity effects were, I always preferred to play with my sanity meter drained so at least something would be happening onscreen. The monster designs never did anything for me. I will admit I enjoyed the effects that gave the illusion the GameCube was malfunctioning. Those were actually pretty neat.

I haven't played the game -but- iirc...wasn't there something about this game and (fooling players into thinking that they lost) a save file?

What was/how did that go down  :o

Hopefully MANY of you other regulars here have played Shadow Hearts: Covenant (which is, IMNSHO, one of the best/my favorite games of all time:)

I really liked how the sanity/frenzy/berserked thing was implemented & handled in the game, too...Things like that -when not implemented in a "fun" way- can be just like "Escort" missions & underwater/Sewer mazes & dungeons = not very enjoyable at all  >:(

The first two Shadow Hearts games are amazing and tell one fantastic contained story.  Unfortunately the third one goes in some questionable directions, I put it down early on because it just didn't feel the same at all.  :(

STALKER: Lost Alpha finally was released and it's some really great stuff.  Every map so far has been either overhauled or completely rebuilt and that doesn't include new areas they added.  It's almost like doing a vanilla playthrough of Shadow of Chernobyl, but there are a lot of changes.
