UKRAINE, 2012 THE AREA AROUND THE 1986 CHERNOBYL NUCLEAR REACTOR MELTDOWN: The "Zone" is a highly contaminated area that has been cordoned off by the military authorities. Another mysterious explosion in 2006 has given rise to some strange local anomalies here that produce bizarre artifacts, the area around which is generally lethal. Paramilitary mercenaries and fortune-hunters, the "S.T.A.L.K.E.R.s" , risk their lives to trade in these valuable artifacts... The Ukrainian military wants to penetrate the core of the zone to gain control over both the Zone and the artifacts, and an advance party of five helicopters is sent out to reconnoiter the area. But despite a carefully planned mission, not a single one of them returns... You play the role of the secret agent, Alexander Degtyarev, operating under cover as a S.T.A.L.K.E.R.; you must enter the Zone and find out what is going on. |
