The only genre I play honestly is RPG. With a heavy focus on JRPG.

RPG/JRPG  and Shoot 'em Ups

RPGs because I love a good story and I lean more toward JRPG as well because I grew up on Dragon Warrior and Final Fantasy games.

Shoot 'em Ups: I played my 1st shmup on the NES with 1943 and since then I've been hooked on the genre. When I built my mame arcade cab I dedicated it to vertical scrolling shmups. I especially love the Bullet Hell sub-genre of shmups and there is an awesome sense of accomplishment when you are able to make it further than you previously had on a single credit.
Now Playing: Persona 5 Scramble, Animal Crossing: New Horizons, Mario Kart 8

My top genre is the single player story driven third person game. That's one of the reasons I've enjoyed Playstation all these years and continue to do so. Their first party is right up my alley.

Secondary is anything co-op. I enjoy the interaction with friends and family.

Generally my top genres are first person shooters (Fallout, Battlefield), open world action adventure games (Legend of Zelda), and platformers (Shovel Knight, Banjo-Kazooie, Super Mario).  Survival Horror games would be a little lower since they aren't as prominent anymore, but that still includes like the new Resident Evil games, Evil Within 2, and I think I'm spacing on one or two others.

I'm open to just about anything. My absolute favorites are probably:
Metroidvania (SotN, Bloodstained)
Single-player FPS (Bioshock Infinite, Doom 2016)
Beat 'em up (Streets of Rage series, TMNT Arcade)

RPGs and open-world games like Skyrim are close to the top.

It's easier to list the genres I DON"T like:
Realistic racing (arcade-style racing like Outrun is OK)
Anything online multiplayer (I don't like to play online, so any game that puts a focus on it is immediately ignored)
Realistic sports (like racing, arcade-style sports like NBA Jam/Hangtime or Super Baseball 2020 are OK)

I'm partial to most genres, if I'm being honest, but if I were to choose I'd say action/adventure, xRPGs, shoot 'em ups, and beat 'em ups are the ones I tend to play the most.

I play games of any genre, but, JRPG, puzzles, arcade racing, platform and fighting games are my favorites.

I don't like too much sandbox, WRPG, realistic sports, real racing simulators and play any game online.

I'm generally open to playing any genre, although I stay away first-person shooters on behalf of my lack of skill. What pulls me into a game is a game's art style foremost, and I love when a developer can bring interesting and new ideas or a blend of mechanics to a tried-and-true genre.

1. Action/Adventure: By far my favorite genre of game. Many of the very best games I've ever played belong to this genre including various Zelda games, the Shenmue Trilogy, and various other titles. Funny enough I've only played a handful of games from this genre I don't like.

2. SHMUPS: I have played A TON of SHMUPS over the years, many great, some bad, and some absolutely incredible like Radiant Silvergun, Layer Section, and Battle Garegga. It's definitely my goto genre of choice when I don't know what else to play, but I feel like playing something. I also love how you can finish most SHMUPS in a half our which makes them great for unwinding for a little when I'm busy with something.

Open-World Action-RPGS, or at least open-worlds with RPG elements in them.

Stuff like Skyrim, Breath of the Wild, King's Field, and Far Cry Primal. Love that stuff. I can get lost in those games for months on end and not get bored.

A close second are 2D Metroidvanias. Super Metroid and Castlevania: Symphony of the Night are two of my all-time favorite games. And modern stuff like Shadow Complex and Ori are fantastic as well.
