Xbox Series Accessories
« on: November 13, 2023, 04:32:45 pm »
Just noticed that all Xbox Series controllers and accessories have been moved to the Xbox One section. Is there a particular reasoning behind this?

If its due to them being backward compatible with the Xbox One, then items such as the PS5 Pulse headsets need to be moved to the PS4 accessories section as they are clearly labeled as compatible with the PS4 on the packaging.

At this rate, shouldn't the Series X and PS5 consoles be listed under Xbox One and PS4 since they natively play these last generation games and games and accessories that are cross generation are being moved into older categories?

I was just about to publicly post these updates to my personal database work topic.

Multi-platform Xbox-branded accessories relating to Xbox One and Xbox Series have all been placed into Xbox One Accessory. For these items, neither of the two consoles are specifically branded with instead only the term "Xbox" present. There is already a precedent rule regarding multi-platform games to be placed in the older console's sub-cat, so that principle guided the decision to place accessories designed for a family of consoles (e.g. Wii & Wii U, PlayStation 3 & PlayStation 4) instead of one specific console also into the older console's sub-cat. So, this does not affect accessories that are compatible with numerous brands, such as 131348 which lists systems from Microsoft, Nintendo, and Sony, meaning these items should remain in Other Accessory at this time. I've only addressed Xbox One/Series accessories right now since there are so many existing entries for these items.

However, unlike what you've said, not all Xbox Series accessories have been moved from Xbox Series X Accessory. Several still remain which are specific to that platform while not mentioning Xbox One whatsoever.

Something else I'll mention is that Xbox One/Series controllers should all be submitted with their model number as part of the entry name due to the reason that several controller variants share the same name but are only differentiated by that detail (e.g. 1708 Arctic Camo, 1914 Arctic Camo.) Several models exist across each generation as well, with 1537, 1697, 1708, and 1914 existing so far for standard wireless controllers.

No. Consoles are specifically branded. The category placement has nothing to do with compatibility but instead is based on what the packaging states. On that note, Series X/S systems are not compatible with all Xbox One games, and the same can be said for PlayStation 5 systems with PlayStation 4 games.
