Summer Gamefest hopes and predictions thread
« on: May 23, 2026, 01:06:33 am »
Summer Gamefest is rapidly approaching in a couple of weeks and I thought it would be fun to see what everyone's hopes and predictions are for this year's event. I feel like most of the time, discussing and anticipating what will happen is more fun than what actually ends up happening, but whatever.

HOPES

- Shenmue IV announced/teased
- New SNK fighting game announced (my guess would be Samurai Shodown)
- The Last of Us: Part 3 teased (99% certain this won't happen because of Intergalactic)
- New 2D Sonic game announced (Sonic Mania 2 would be amazing)
- Third game in the Star Wars Jedi series announced
- Gran Turismo 8 teased
- Half Life 3 (I feel completely stupid for even hoping this will happen, but who knows, maybe this will actually be the year...no it won't)

PREDICTIONS

- Mortal Kombat 2 (MK1 sequel) announced
- new GTA6 trailer (probably final, "BIG" announcement to make up for the anticlimactic TGA 2025 final announcement)
- new Metal Gear Solid game teased
- RE9 story DLC revealed
- new Intergalactic from Naughty Dog trailer with 10 minutes of gameplay and story, with 2027 release revealed
- Sega reveals new Crazy Taxi game with a short trailer

The only thing I feel like I can count as a prediction is that I think because State of Play is doing a thing with Alama Drafthouse to broadcast the show that they got some big announcements.  Not just showcases for Wolverine or Intergalactic, but maybe the rumored God of War spinoff with Faye among maybe others.  I feel like they've really had the crap kicked out of them lately with all their live service stuff failing, or being just okay, or just not showing up and with the confirmation of their first party singleplayer games, I think they want to put their best foot forward right now.  Random want, but give me a new Twisted Metal lol

For hopes, always Bloodborne, just give me something, remaster, remake, sequel...and often wanted, a new Banjo-Kazooie.  Like just make a new game and throw the HD remakes of the first two with it, GOTY right there for me.  I just want it alot as I'm playing through Yooka-Replaylee, which is nice so far, but man it just makes me want the bear and bird lol

After I made this thread, I did some digging to see wha the dominant rumors were around this year's event and a new GoW seems to be at the top of the list. I'm still behind with getting caught up in the series and still need to play the last two most recent games, but this does excite me. Another top rumor is a Nintendo Direct, likely sometime after Summer Gamesfest that is supposedly revealing an Ocarina of Time remake. If this ends up being true, I pray this gets a Switch release too. I'm still not ready to buy a Switch 2, but if we get a new OoT, that may be the game to sell the console to me.

Unrealistic Wishes:

Dark Souls 4
Golden Sun sequel/remaster/remake/whatever
Resident Evil: Code Veronica X Remake unveiled and not botched in any way
Dragon Ball Sparking! Zero: Super Limit Breaking Neo gets a physical release, with the base game and all DLC up to the new titular expansion included on-disc
SNK announces they will develop new games for the Neo Geo AES+
Capcom announces Monster Hunter Stories 3 sold so well that they're going to release a sequel in 2 years instead of the usual 5.

Realistic Wishes:

Elden Ring 2
Star Wars: Jedi Telemarketer (or whatever the third Jedi game is called)
New DLC expansion for Monster Hunter Stories 3
New DLC for Monster Hunter Wilds
SNK announces next wave of games for the Neo Geo AES+
Dead or Alive 7

What we'll get:

Resident Evil: Code Veronica X Remake announced with some modern audience tweaks like those stupid cat ear accessories from RE4 Remake.
Skyrim: The Journey Edition announced for car entertainment screens. Steering wheel and gearshift-based control scheme. Expect a dramatic spike in car crashes.
An online-only live service game where you play as a man with a gun trying to take things from other men who also have guns. It will surely absorb the player bases from the other live service games with the same premise and cannot possibly fail.

I was also hearing about the Ocarina of Time remake rumor as I was pretty excited for it, but I feel its less likely now with Star Fox 64 getting remade and releasing next month.  I personally don't see them doing two 64 remakes in the same year.  I'd love to be wrong, I'd even want them to just do a remaster of the 3DS versions of OoT and Majora, cleaned up, better visuals, bonus stuff added, and just release them in a nice bundle...Heck, I'm at the point I'd be happy for them to just announce Twilight Princess/Wind Waker HD ports because its so dumb those games are stuck on Wii U still lol

Expectations: Zero

That's how I always anticipate these events. Without any expectations, I'm really not in a position to be let down. There's usually at least one announcement that catches my attention in big showings, anyway.

I do this to myself every E3 (RIP), every Game Awards, every Nintendo Direct, and pretty much every even where new games are announced. I almost can't help but get excited about potential announcements. In reality, I don't think any of these game reveal showcases have blown my socks off since some of the mid-2010s E3s, but I typically find at least one or two games to get excited about. That's pretty much where my bar is set, but even that occasionally has been too high, particularly with the console exclusive showcases.

HOPES

A portal from the sky to open and we all return to 1999 again.

Expectations

Derivative games

GTA 6 Price Announcement being 20 dollars too much

Nintendo beating a 40 year Old IP to death instead of innovating.

A Gimmicky Open World Game that takes 2 lifetimes to finish

And tik tokers giggling while saying slang I dont understand

But in all seriousness....

I guess one can hope for

Half Life 3

Klonoa 3

Bioshock 3 (not infinite)

Sonic Adventure 3

The Darkness 3

All the "3" games

Some sort of new Need for speed game.

A new ratchet and clank.

Sonic Adventure 3

I would love Sonic Adventure 3 with a revamped Chao Garden that takes advantage of today's processing power. I was so disappointed when Sonic Heroes removed the Chao Garden that I pretty much dropped the franchise. I doubt they'll ever do it, though.

Personally, I'd be more excited about Sonic Mania 2, but would absolutely be more shocked if Sonic Adventure 3 was announced.

Resident Evil: Code Veronica remake.  Just called "Veronica".  2027 release.

New Cup Head game announced.  And the studio is working on a smaller game Mighty Cuphead Adventure.  Old school pixel art game.  That's some good fun.  No date announced for that, but I think they realize they need something to hold folks over if Cup Head 2 is gonna take awhile lol

Alien Isolation 2.  No date.

Gen Atlas, from the creator of ICO and Shadow of the Colossus.  This was teased before a little bit ago, but now we get to see more.  Very scifi/post apocalyptic.  Third person shooter and you get to control and fight giant robots as a human or as a giant robot.  Looks pretty sick and I'm all about going back to Shadow of the Colossus vibes.

Blood Message.  Chinese action game, mostly just cinematics, not super sure what type of game it is overall.

Stranger than Heaven
.  January 2027.  For some reason Tupac is in this lol Snoop was announced before, but Tupac is so goofy being that he's dead. I don't really care as much for that sorta thing, there's more of that happening lately with GenAI stuff going on, but eh, whatever...

Haex, co-op survival extraction game I think, though I think it's all PVE.  2027.

Dead by Daylight tease of some sort, no clue what its about though lol

Mortal Shell 2 Beta.

Sand Raiders of Sophie.  Server Slam now.  Western era game where you and some friends build a walking gun platform and then i think fight other players and do PVE?

AC: Black Flag Resynced.  July 9th.

Platinum doing a new TMNT game.  Oh man, they are doing The Last Ronin, that's sick.  Hope it's super crazy and violent.

Didn't Fortnite already do a John Wick drop, which was after they did a "Not-John Wick", now he's just John Wick with a cartoon palette for some reason? lol

Gundam:Rogue Orbit.  That's crazy, this is the least Gundam looking thing I've ever seen lol

Cross Fire, third person military shooter, big focus on tactical movement and adaptive cover, singleplayer.  It looked kinda bland until it became very Scifi, so started to seem abit more interesting.

Control Resonant trailer.  September 24th

Guild Wars 3.  Beta Fall 2027, wild to be announcing the BETA a year and a half out.

Star Wars Galactic Racer, Out October 6. So excited for this.

End of Abyss, October 1st, slightly top down horror shooter.

Something Harbor (Name was blocked on the stream I was watching lol) First person survival horror of some sort.

((The stream is so messed up on Youtube and Twitch for some reason))

Virtua Fighter: Crossroads, 2027.

Runescape: Dragonwilds.  September 15th.

Soulframe.

Grounded 2 trailer.  Just update news for the Early Access.

Mafia The Old Country DLC August 14th.

1666 Amsteram, time bending action game by a guy that I think was said to work on Assassin's Creed years ago.  Prologue is out now for free.  Love the main character design.

Saw Genesis.  Sorta seems like their take on what Outlast Trials was doing. 3 v 1 multiplayer horror.

Lords of the Fallen 2. Fall

Star Wars: Zero Company.  Clone Wars era tactical game. August 27th.

The Blood of the Dawnwalker.  September 3rd.  I think this was the game that was done by Ex-Witcher devs.

Among Us Story: On Guard
.  Among Us Cartoon Series.  Wasn't the cartoon in the works for a long while? it's the cheapest looking cartoon I've seen in awhile lol Out on Paramount.

007 First Light DLC story addition tease I guess, I don't know who Bawma is.

Gothic Remake out now.

Aion 2, September 2026.

Wuthering Waves/Cyberpunk 2027 crossover out next week.

Monster Hunter Wilds expansion.  Wish I could be excited, but the base game is so garbage.  It does look cool at the very least. Monster Hunter Wilds: Ascendance.  2027.

Swords of Legends.  Chinese action game.  The most generic title of the show lol

Hot Wheels Infinite Rush.  September 24th.

I was just about to be like, no to Sonic Racing Crossworlds, but now we got Godzilla and Neon Genesis levels? lol Wish I cared about the game more lol

New Attack on Titan game.  I remember liking the first game abit, don't know if I played the second. Out July.

Sea of Remnants trailer.  No release info? Weird...

Palworld trailer.  1.0 July 10.

Wolf Among Us 2.  2027.  Wolf Among Us Remastered Holiday 2026.

Stellar Blade: Blood Rain.  Such a completely different vibe from the first game, way more interesting to me where the first game was kinda like knock off Nier Automata.

Street Fighter 6: Year 4, includes Tifa.  Two new characters and Bosch from World Tour.

Final Fantasy 7: Revelation.  All platform release, no exclusive shenanigans.  Kinda fun to have the crew parachute in from the High Wind to enter the locations.  They showed some new costumes or like...class change or something for the cast. "Fit System".  New moves and outfit change, maybe multiple per character.  Looks great.  I need to try and get back to Rebirth, I got kinda burnt out by it and only got like half way through I think.  Spring 2027.

-------------------------------------------------------------------

A lot of good variety here.  Personally for me there wasn't a ton of big games that jumped out at me, Resident Evil: Veronica was the big one, I'm all on board with finishing up remaking the older games.  Gen Atlas seems very cool as I love giant robots.  The Last Ronin game has potential.  Stella Blade 2 looked good as someone that wasn't super impressed by the first game. And I'm interested in FF7, but I need to try and finish the second game first, but I got time.
