Should UMD Videos be listed or have a separate section?
« on: July 02, 2012, 07:55:06 pm »
I've been slowly filling out my collection and I come across a problem.

Should I list my UMD Videos?

pros:  I keep them with my PSP games collection, they have the same cases, they are only playable on the PSP-a video game player.

cons:  They aren't video games, nor are they directly video game related.

They don't currently have a separate category here.  Should they have one added?  If I add them to my collection, should I just list them under PSP?  What does anyone else think?

I can add a category, no problem. Personally I don't like the idea of having the UMD movies listed with the Games. I'll wait a bit for other's input before adding the new cat, but I'm pretty sure most everyone will agree that they belong in their own sub-cat of the PSP section.

I vote PSP sub-category.

Though, we also have these to deal with. :p

Edit: And then we have CD-i movies...

Come to think of it, what about DVD format games?

Interactive movies on DVD, DVD board games, etc.  What counts as a video game; at what point does the line blur and it is not a video game, but something else?

At one time I think we decided that if a game was a board game that uses a DVD as it's method of playing, it was NOT a video game. (Like Scene It! or Trivial Pursuit DVD edition)

However, are you referring to games like Dragon's Lair? I would consider it a game, even if it's on DVD format.

I think that there should be a sub category for UMD videos since they are not games but they are only playable on a game system.  I don think there needs to be a listing for board games that use dvds since that gets away from it actually being a video game.

For this alone...I would say...no.

You could always add them to your "swag" category, if you just want to have them all tracked & listed in one place; though :)

I think they should get their own sub-category.  They are software specifically designed for a video game system.  As for the CD-i and 3DO movies, I see no reason to make sub-categories for these, unless someone specifically asks for them, or if we have any already listed in the database (I'm not sure about that).  When someone asks for them, let's add them then.  I think the GBA videos are fine as is, there aren't that many, and I believe we have them all in the database already.

Huh?!

Anyone here can pretty much consider and put whatever the hell they want to as "swag"; no?!

We already agreed that there will be a category for those items. Swag is for items that don't have a category or that are too vague to have one yet.

Sorry for the bold. :\ Guess I'm cranky this morning. T_T

And I just added a new Cat called "PSP UMD Video [NA]" if anyone of our friends from other regions would like the European or Japanese counterparts, let me know and I'll add them to the database.
