I have never been able to get into Mega Man games. I really should give them another try though.

What's a good one to start on that won't break the bank if I have to buy it?

2 and 3 are generally regarded as the best of the original series... though I do really like 9 (on PSN/XBLA/WiiWare) just as much. Any of those used to be in the 8-10$ area, not sure about how much they cost now... Other than 9 which will be 10$ or less forever.

Otherwise... Megaman X is a brilliant game, amongst my favorites. Back when I got it a few years back, it was around 10-12$, now it's probably more (unless you go for the japanese version: http://www.japangamestock.com/buy_video_games.php?products_id=4539).

Agreed. 2 is by far my favorite of the original series. I only really ever played Mega Man X and haven't gotten into much of the other X games, which I need to fix since I love MMX. If you like the X games, you should try the Zero games as they follow the same idea of gameplay. But I think Zero 1 is a touch tougher than X 1 was.

I will have to check out #2.

The compilation idea is a good one too. Is there one with the original 6 on it?

It was Mega Man: The Power Battles and Mega Man: The Power Fighters
The X Collection has Mega Man X 1-6 and Mega Man Battle and Chase
