The SG-1000 is the precursor to the Sega Master System, and was released at the same time as the Famicom. However, its sales were nothing compared to to the Famicom so Sega released a redesign called the Sg-1000 Mark II in Japan in 1984. That redesign didn't sell well either so in 1985, Sega just decided to make an all new system ,the Sega Mark III(known as the Master System in North America and Europe) and discontinued the SG-1000 Mark I and II that same year, which means the console had a lifespan of only two years.
