Games in 2019
« on: December 13, 2018, 03:58:20 pm »
We are on our way out of 2018 and 2019 is on the horizon, so what games got you excited for next year?

Metro Exodus - This is one of my big hype games for next year as I love this series. After some delays, it finally is coming out and even got a slightly earlier release than planned just yesterday.  I'm loving the idea that this game is still keeping up with the "Linear Exploration", but expanding on that with even bigger areas to explore this time and through different seasons.

Pokemon 2019* - There's an asterisk on this, because while I'm interested in a proper Pokemon game on console after Let's Go, my hype is based purely on how much they add and change the series.  I want a bigger and better game than what they've done before with the series.  Let's Go made me feel like that was a test bed for this one, which wouldn't be great, but what I mostly want to see is them keeping Pokemon on the field, a better story, everything being less stiff, and generally a bigger world to explore.  Not wanting Breath of the Wild level or an open world, just something that doesn't feel so linear.  If it just ends up being Let's Go with Pokemon Battles and whatever story it is, but plays the same, I probably won't be super interested.

Resident Evil 2: Remake - I am not a fan of the old RE games, I never have, the gameplay always never worked for me, and I only recently pushed myself through through Resident Evil 1 Remastered and a failed run through Resident Evil 0.  That said, I've always liked Resident Evil for what it was with it's dumb B-Movie story, so to get that with high quality visuals and gameplay, especially after RE7, has me so excited for this game.

Rage 2/Days Gone/Far Cry: New Dawn/Dying Light 2 - I'm clumping these all together as I'm sure everyone has their settings they enjoy in games or movies.  For me, I've long been into post-apocalyptic stuff.  Zombies, mutants, all that fun stuff, so next year it's just overflowing with these.  Rage 2 and Far Cry: New Dawn are honestly very similar games, one just being more scifi than the other, and Days Gone is a more simpler third person shooter, but could be alright.  I fee like personally Dying Light 2 is abit more standout gameplay wise I feel as the first game was so good.

Ori and the Will of the Wisp - The first Ori is fantastic, one of the better metroidvania games I've played in the past few years, with beautiful visuals, and this looks no different and maybe even better looking.

Kingdom Hearts 3 - I've always enjoyed the Kingdom Hearts ideas, but never kept up with the series past the first two games back in the day, but the new game looks like such a fantastic new time and looks gorgeous.  I'm going through the first two games again right now before this comes out.

Mortal Kombat 11 - I've never been an MK player, because I was never super into how it played, I always preferred the controls how Street Fighter did it, and I'm not even a huge fan of fighting games, but with even better graphics and utilizing the really cool customization stuff of Injustice 2, this sounds like it'll be a fun game to check out.  Spawn is rumored to be one of the guests, which is pretty great.

Honorable Mentions:  These are more for games that I'm unsure of at the moment, but do interest me, they just might not have a lot of info otherwise, or are just things I might pick up, but not jumping to get them, or have no confirmed release date and may not make it this year...Star Wars: The Fallen Order, Skull & Bones, Sekiro, The Outer Worlds, Devil May Cry 5, Code Vein, Battletoads, Bayonetta 3.

Resident Evil 2 Remake, for me.

Love the old-school RE games, and 2 is the best of the bunch. Cannot wait!

I could easily see them make RE3 after this.  It's the only other likely one they could remake and most of the groundwork is already there with RE2.  I'd kinda love to have them remake RE1 again, so I could play through it with the new visuals and better gameplay, but I can't imagine they plan to do that any time soon.

I've seen rumors online that they're already working on a RE3 Remake.

I'd also love to see a Code Veronica remake, since it's the direct sequel to RE2. Give us more ammo this time around, though.

Resident Evil 2 Remake is definitely towards the top. It isn't confirmed, but I'd bet money Doom Eternal will get a 2019 release, which if it did it would definitely go a the top of the hype list.

Right, that could be out next year too.  I'm pretty hype for this one compared to what I was with the first game, so this would be great to get this game too.

I want to like Devil May Cry 5, I love everything I'm seeing about it, but after trying to play DMC4, I'm unsure.  I really didn't like the gameplay, it didn't feel comfortable and smooth to me compared to say Bayonetta and I don't know how it plays in comparison to DMC4.

Funny, I actually prefer DMC4's feel over Bayo's. That said, DMC4 came out first and given Bayo is made by the original DMC team, I'm sure DMC5 will incorporate some of Platinum's innovations of the genre.

Other than DMC5, I'm hoping Indivisible makes it out in 2019.

Sekiro looks really good, shame I don't have a PS4. Kingdom Hearts should get people excited too.

In Switch news, I think Metroid will be a fall release and am excited at the prospect of it. Might get Pokemon too if it looks good (no Go catching mechanics, please.) With how long its been taking, I don't have much hope for Retro's next game being on store shelves, but it would be nice if after 4 or 5 years they finally tell us what they are making for 2020.

It's just the button combinations, sometimes needing to hold a button to then get out different attacks, and at no point in my few hours of playing the game did it feel like I was better understanding the game or that I was reliably doing moves better.  Bayonetta is much easier in that it's mostly about just attack combinations and it all blended so smoothly gameplay wise for me.  Bayo just kinda spoiled me I think, so if DMC5 is better, then I'm very much into checking out the game.

Devil May Cry 5
Resident Evil 2 remake
No More Heroes Travis Strikes Again
Those 3 are my "locked in" games since we have a release date and those dates are close.

Other than that not a game but I actually really want to see the detective Pikachu movie. And since Ryan Reynolds is playing Pikachu you know people are going to overdub pikachu with Deadpool lines and that alone will make it worth it
