Once it goes all digital, then I will adapt.

But for now, I will still go physical all the way since I enjoy collecting the games I like to play and archive them in a library. I still buy digitally, only if there is no physical option.

I can see the day digital takes over though, personally I don't think it will be with the PS5 but probably the gen after. I'll be pretty happy with the collection I have though, plenty of backlog to go through as well.

Finished Yakuza 0 not too long ago - This was my first Yakuza game as well and what a game...

I wasn't expecting much to be honest, but was completely blown away on how awesome and quirky this series is. The main story line, mini games, combat, to the voice acting, everything just clicked with me. I have Kiwami and gonna start that pretty soon after I clear some of my "older" back log.

But I can't wait to dive in to the Yakuza universe again to see what happens next to Kiryu and Majima.

Definitely not, as some have stated in this thread, I only get games that I'll play or will play down the line. There are plenty of shovelware on any platform that I have no intention of playing so no need to get those for the sake of buying.

I do understand the fact that some people want to go after full sets for being completionists, which is cool. After all we are in a forum for video game collectors on VGCollect where the thrill of the hunt can be a satisfying feeling as well for some. However that's not for me. I do have a friend who's going after a full PS1 set, it looks impressive on his shelf but he mentioned there are a lot of games he won't play in the end but he enjoys looking for all of em.

Mainly playing the games now is what I enjoy the most.

When I was younger I enjoyed the hunt, going to game swap meets or thrift stores to find titles I will be interested in. But these days finding retro titles is harder, unlike before. People seem to be charging higher amounts for older games as well. I'm pretty happy with retro collection that I currently have.

A lot of the retro games I have I got growing up back in the day during their initial release. I never got rid of my collection and was pretty particular about collecting games at an early age, so I just kept it all. Except I sold a bunch of X360 titles last gen, trying to re-buy some back though...  ;)

These days mainly playing though, If I find an older title in the wild that I'm interested in I will probably get it, but I'm not actively looking for older games. I mainly buy new titles on PS4 or Switch, but of course I still play my older games. That will never change.

Back when I was in school I bought EGM every month without fail in the 90s. I had boxes of them and Gamepro as well, eventually they were just taking up space and I threw them all away.

I read every issue though, good times.

Nowadays I don't read magazines anymore, just get all my gaming news from online sources, when I think about it though the whole charm of waiting for a monthly issue with the anticipation of what is gonna be on the cover and reading the reviews is non-existent now since we can just get info anytime we want.

Now that I look back at it, some of the covers in the 90s were horrible... haha

Video Game Database Discussion / Re: Collection List

As others have stated as well, I don't consider them part of my collection but more on a sub digital collection.

I always go for the physical copy when available, even if I have to wait for it. Perfect example is Owl Boy for the Switch. Digitally it's been available for some time now, but I'm waiting it out for the announced physical copy. Or I will just re-buy the physical version again. I did this with the new Wonder Boy, got it digitally on PS4, then the physical Switch version was announced and I bought that. If I don't buy a copy, it will just irk me knowing I can own a copy in my collection than rather have it disappear one day in the digital ocean...

But some games are just too good to ignore, Like HellBlade: Senua's Sacrifice. I'm still waiting for a physical copy since they already announced the game was a success. You have smaller less successful indie titles being released as physical copies but Ninja Theory just don't want to release this game as if digital is the only solution for mid budget games... which I don't believe is true since I have heard numerous people wanting to buy and own this game.

Probably one day I will just cave and buy it digitally on a sale and if a physical version is ever released I will just re-buy it. Game looks great:

Just finished God of War, and what a game...

Everything about it is top quality, from the story, to the dialogue, the artstyle and graphics are completely spot on. The combat is engaging and satisfying along with the leveling up system. I don't usually platinum games but this one I just wanted to keep on playing.

One of the best aspects of the game is the dialogue between Kratos and his son and how a bond is grown together throughout their adventure. Definitely deserving of all the high scores it has received. God of War is up there for game of the generation for me along with Bloodborne. Amazing game, if you haven't played it or you're on the fence, do check it out. Kratos is a whole new character in this game and a damn good one. Can't wait for the hinted sequels.  ;D

Just finished The Mummy Demastered on the Switch.

Great Metroid-Vania game with nice animations I must say. Even though it was a bit on the shorter side, the gameplay made up for it. Definitely liking these types of Indie games on the Switch.

Just wished they had more of them as physical copies to add to my collection rather than digital. One of the reasons why I am waiting for Owl Boy and Slain as physical on the Switch, already got Axiom Verge and Wonder Boy and the Dragon's trap physical on Switch which is great!  8)

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild on the Switch

Amazing game, definitely lived up to it's hype, for me that is. I was a bit concerned in the beginning with the change of direction and that it's not your traditional Legend of Zelda type of game. But the change was something bold and I admire that from Eiji Aonuma to take that risk and it paid off.

Completed the game and just 4 shrines left (out of 120) which I'll get to after typing this ;) And of course Korok seeds, I got about 350+ already. I don't think I'll hunt all down, that's insane in my book, takes up too much time and my back log just keeps growing.

Favorite character for me is Kass, the traveling Rito storytelling musician (Bird Race). Really enjoyed solving his puzzles or hearing his music knowing a hidden shrine is nearby. Would have really liked an Amiibo of Kass.

The Zelda formula moving forward looks very promising, hopefully they merge the traditional Zelda with this new huge open world concept. More dungeons and bosses with unique dungeon items.

I've never rage quit per-say, but I have gotten frustrated at certain games like the souls series. I would just take a deep breath and try again later, works every time, especially with Nioh on those DLC bosses.

I use to play a lot of Street Fighter IV and V online, never rage quit there either, just treat it as a learning process when I get beat to get better.

But then again, takes quite a bit for me to get really angry in general. So never broke a controller in my time of gaming.

However, I have gotten some nasty messages from people on Xbox Live and PSN while playing Street Fighter. To the point where I can feel their anger through my screen. Not my fault I beat them and bumped their rank lower, heh.

When I was younger I gave away my entire Sega Mega Drive collection (All [JP]) to my cousin, he still has some today but traded or sold most away. He's not really a collector but still plays a lot of games. When I think back I have no idea why I did that. Maybe because he was still on a NES that time and I wanted him to play some new games.

I managed to get all of them back eventually (some US versions now) but man oh man some were hard to track down. But I'm completely satisfied with my Mega Drive / Genesis collection now. Maybe it was for the best... or maybe not since my cousin now is basically addicted to Destiny 2 (a game I loathe by the way...)

General / Re: Your Top 10 Consoles of All-Time
« on: October 31, 2017, 07:51:15 am »
Great lists guys! This is tough because there are so many great games out there across all the different consoles but if I have to rank them, here we go.

1 Sega Genesis / Mega Drive - This has to be my all time favorite console, just too many memories from my childhood, playing alone or co-op with my brother and friends. Too many classics across all genres. Still love this console till today.

2 NES - The first console that really got me into video games and the love I have for them. It all started from here for me.

3 PlayStation 1 - I gotta put the PS1 in front of the SNES. This is the machine that I really got into JRPGs. Plus Symphony of the Night is on it. Best game of All Time.. (imo)

4 Super Nintendo / Super Famicom - The SNES is a great console as well. Games like A Link to the Past, Super Metroid and ActRaiser 2 make it one of the greats for me.

5 PlayStation 2 - Another Console with so many beloved franchises. I stopped Gaming for a while but the PS2 got me back into it so I definitely have to give this console credit.

6 Xbox 360 / PlayStation 3 - I lumped these together because they're pretty much the same except for the exclusives. This is the era where I got really into watching E3 conferences and getting hyped about games.

7 Nintendo 64 - Even though I didn't have a big library of games on the N64, the few titles I have made it a spectacular experience. Mario64, Ocarina of Time plus Rare games like Banjo. All stellar.

8 PC Engine / PC Engine CD - I enjoy the library of PC Engine Games even though it wasn't that popular among my circle of friends. A lot of great shoot em ups.

9 Game Boy Advance - This handheld has accompanied me through a lot of boring plane rides, got lots of enjoyment from the GBA.

10 PlayStation 4 - Well, the PS4 is at the bottom of my list, I suppose because I don't really like the whole: Releasing of games somewhat unfinished then patched later mentality the industry has now. And how some games need internet connection to play..

I mean, I'm always online but something that bothered me recently was I couldn't even play the For Honor Single Player Campaign the other day because the sever was down for maintenance... For online yeah sure, but we are talking about the Single Player Campaign, just annoyed the route games have been taking recently. However, the PS4 is shaping up to be a great console, especially with Bloodborne which I think is the best game of this generation so far.

I've been on a GBA run recently and doing a Castlevania back to back session.

Completed Circle of the Moon already and I'm almost done with Harmony of Dissonance, then after that I will start Aria of Sorrow.

Such fantastic games, glad I finally got around to play the handheld series since I had them in my collection for the longest time. I consider Symphony of the Night one of the greatest games of all time... so playing this series just brings back all the beautiful memories, seeing all familiar enemies and hearing the timeless musical score is such a satisfying feeling.

After this I will be heading to the DS series.
